It’s frustrating being a Woody supporter

u/TheFatRemote 8d ago
Such a stupid strategy to put on lap 10 in an 84 lap race. Strategist should be sacked.

u/Tiny_Advance_3627 8d ago
Classic DJR. Team just can't support the driver properly.
3
u/GGAllinPartridge Tickford 8d ago
Like Ferrari in F1. Incredibly legacy, iconic livery, outstanding drivers, endless frustration. Somehow just always showing up as less than the sum of their parts
2
u/Tiny_Advance_3627 8d ago
As a long suffering Ferrari fan I could almost sympathise.
Maybe they're both cursed by a shell sponsorship.

u/garfungle_ 8d ago
I like Cam Hill’s ugly livery this weekend
5
u/SpeedyThext0n 8d ago
I actually don't hate it, but it would look better on a different car honestly. Has a real boxy angular look which doesn't really fit with the Supra being so curved
Would look amazing on a VY or BA imo
2
u/RozzleCoptor 8d ago
That colourway belongs on a 60's F1 car. I dont hate it - almost looks like a retro livery attempt.

Djr certainly having a day, brakes not working correctly and under fueling both cars

I feel like for these long races we should dump the compulsory pit stops and just let them decide how many times to pit. We all know they need to pit 3 times to make it home, but why not let them decide to risk it on 2? It'll actually add some strategy instead of everyone doing the same thing just within a 5 lap window.
4
u/Redsand-nz 8d ago
The only time compulsory stops make sense is when the cars can make it to the end on a single tank, because they will all just do that, and then there is no strategy - everyone will just race start to finish and save fuel.
3
u/wings_of_nihil 8d ago
Completely agree, however it isn't correct to say "We all know they need to pit 3 times to make it home". That's only the case due to sporting rules, in terms of fuel capacity they only need 1 stop.

Why bring up Super 2 and Super 3 champion wins for Feeney lol
4
u/L1nchp1N SvG97 9d ago
It might be the same reason they bought up F4 champion for Ojeda, something to show people not familiar with the series that they're previous champions.
6
u/dys0n_giddey 9d ago
Yeah that's fair, just felt weird for such a decorated Supercars driver lol
5
u/L1nchp1N SvG97 9d ago
Totally agree.
"And up next in the Top 10 Shoot Out is Cam Waters, the Under-12's Mildura Junior Karting Champion of 2005!"
1
u/RecklessRad Cam Waters 8d ago
They also referred to Anton as the “2013 Formula Ford champion”
James Harden still played for OKC then, it’s irrelevant
9
u/Redsand-nz 8d ago
Here's Riana to tell us how exciting and interesting the gamesmanship in pitlane is. Without showing it, describing it, or giving an example.
2
u/HairlessWookiee 8d ago
Lol I was scratching my head at that bit. I assume the T8 guys must have kept laying out and then coming back in, or vice versa, but the fact that she didn't actually say what was going on was bizarre. It was like "I am contractually obligated to say something for 30 seconds at this time".
9
u/Poveytb 8d ago
Now to wait another month....
6
u/Cyathene 8d ago
They seriously need to condense the calendar or increase rounds. The racing this year has been great, and the sport is reporting huge growth but these gaps are going to kill all momentum.

A ute with no windscreen and tape holding down the dash is the epitome of support category racing.

Between Supercars, F1, and Indy500, I’m basically stuck to the couch for 4 days straight this weekend

u/middyonline 9d ago
If your a real sicko you can watch about 5 hours of NASCAR after the F1 race tomorrow.

u/wings_of_nihil 8d ago
I'm fundamentally opposed to compulsory pitstops as a whole, so don't like the idea of the 3 stop rule, but here's hoping everything plays out cleanly, entertaining, and drama free!
1
u/Cyclist_123 8d ago
I agree, the length of the race should be designed to give the number of stops they want or even limit the fuel drop. But if someone can fuel save or try something else it should be fair play
4
u/Acrobatic_Flannel 8d ago
Fuck those rear bumper cameras off when cars are fighting each other. It's painful.
4
u/adrenalinamatt1 8d ago
Kostecki ain't happy... Now they mention about the Kai Allen move, but still don't show us it.

Wasn't following the thread yesterday while watching, but does anyone else gets majorly frustrated with the constant cutting between normal view, rear camera, and onboard camera, and all while cars are battling?
I'm so sick of having an onboard camera as we watch someone getting passed where we can see a tiny sliver of another car in the corner. It's horrendous race direction and one of those "did fans ever actually ask for this?" things.
3
u/middyonline 9d ago
Honestly after watching F1, Supercars and NASCAR road courses this year it seems like race direction is really fucking hard.
I don't think I've seen an event this year where fans have gone "yea that was good race direction".
3
u/Acrobatic_Flannel 9d ago
They just seem to be trying too hard to bring us multiple different views, rather than letting us follow the action from the best view available. And don't get me started on their replays of the start 😡 Unless something significant happened, I doubt many people want to see it again.
2
u/oneevilchicken 9d ago
Yep. It’s annoying as hell. NASCAR does it all the time too. Onboards should only be shown when pretty much. Nothing is happening.
1
u/Acrobatic_Flannel 9d ago
Yep. The onboards are great when they want to show someone doing a lap when nothing else is going on and you can see them shifting etc., but horrid when there's wheel to wheel
5
u/ExtremeCarpenter4775 Scott Pye 9d ago
Why is waters trying to run a lap so close to the car in front?

Commentary keeps talking about 2 tire strategies, but they have 4 wheel guns. 1 tire or 4 takes the same time.
I know yesterday was only 2 guns

I rated him very highly when he was in S2 (and S5000) but I feel like he's partly holding Tickford back. They need to look elsewhere to find someone else. Although, I have a feeling he's the one bringing the Castrol money.

u/Next-Recognition1307 Chaz Mostert 9d ago
James Courtney is so boring to listen to.

Yeah I've given him a chance but he seems awkward and clunky.

Some great footage from this weekend, was just thinking how great broadcasting and drone technology advances have improved motorsport spectating. If you haven't seen the FPV drone footage from Spa 6 hr bus stop, do yourself a favour and check it out. As Bruce McAvaney would say, "delicious"

The next round in Darwin will be the real test for the parity argument. That's the event where, historically, those yellow boxes filter to the top of the timing board.
4
u/jd92jw 9d ago
So the narrative's always been he has no talent and always had the fastest car but somehow he's leading the championship and still competing for wins while the team's strugging learning a new car at the moment 🤷♂️
4
u/fuel_altered 9d ago
No talent? Never heard that
3
u/HairlessWookiee 9d ago
Literally the entire reason Roland Dane pulled him into the main game as a co-driver being fast tracked for a fulltime seat was because he recognised his talent.

How tf are they allowing that ute out there with no front and rear windscreen?

u/Timcertain 9d ago
if u dont have front window u have to remove the rear window. has been the way its been for ages. guessing cant really say no to letting them run whenopen wheelers dont have a front window and they can race.

STP Commodore is a great reminder of one of my favourite races from Symmons Plains

The gap between Ojeda and Fraser has been massive all season far. Ojeda keeps getting caught up in trouble during the races but the pace he has in qualy is constantly great.

It's crazy GM are trying to poach Payne when they have a fast driver in their fold that they're just painfully ignoring.

Boy it never stops for Aaron Cameron. Speeding out of the lane for the shootout then excluded because the rear track was to wide. Very surprised Anton got away with the same thing even if the margin was tighter
2
u/LMRacingGuru02 Brodie Kostecki 8d ago
Every time I look at the number 3 inside Aaron Cameron's car, it looks exactly like Dale Earnhardt's number 3, but without the red. That is so awesome!
Obviously, I've noticed it before, just thought it as an observation.
2
u/adrenalinamatt1 8d ago
A lot of pixel break up in the coverage.
1
u/jimnasium_ Kai Allen 8d ago
I've noticed it all season but seems particularly bad this weekend. It's been bad around the timing totem all year.
1
u/adrenalinamatt1 8d ago
Curious to know if the cloud cover could be the issue for it being particularly bad this weekend.

Alongside Toyota, Ford is so much better this season. Why would Matt Payne want to leave them?
1
u/Tiny_Advance_3627 8d ago
Apparently it's a $1.8m deal, and I guess the prestige for driving for a HT.
1
u/LMRacingGuru02 Brodie Kostecki 8d ago
Big money offer, but still, if I was Matt Payne, I wouldn't want to leave Penrite Racing. He and that team are championship contenders.

I don't understand why I'm getting downvoted either, just a couple people hating that I have a logical opinion. Lol
I just wish the folks at Motor Racing 360 and maybe a few others would stop pushing this narrative that Matt Payne would want to leave Ford for GM.

Idk if anyone here is watching the orielly race too, but if you are does the fog look bad? Cause I can’t see turn 3/4 from the frontstretch.

I watched that race on TV, the fog was pretty bad. Ross Chastain won the race.

Yeah the moment they ran out the stage I knew it was over so I left it so I could get home for the Supercars race.

Not even just that, but this is my main issue with these long races. They start out exciting, then there is 70 laps of strategy talk while they drive to a number, and then 5 laps of exciting at the end.
