Hardware 114mm cranks on 29'' are so good!

I use my 29'' uni as a bike to get around city and sometimes for long trips (with no breaks on the uni). I started with 138mm, moved to 125mm cranks and I thought that's the limit for useful short cranks but It's not at all! Even with 114mm I can go through ruffer terrain and uphill no problem, and shorter leg movement makes the ride faster and more stable. What do yall use for your big wheels?

Hardware Riding comfort for petite woman

Post image
14 Upvotes

My 16yo daughter rides 1-2 hours per week in 3-4 sessions on this 24in Torker. To describe her current skill level: She can confidently ride about a quarter mile (roughly half kilometer) on smooth pavement before falling, and she can free-mount once in about 5 tries.

She is finding herself most limited by the discomfort of riding, saying that she has all of her weight on her crotch. Padded bicycle shorts (sometimes worn backwards) seem to help, but it is still uncomfortable.

What else can she try to allow her to ride longer comfortably? Are there other shape seats that might help? Is her body position off? Does the body build up a tolerance for the discomfort?

Hardware How to Prevent Seat From Twisting Whenever I

Is there a way I can I replace the quick release with bolts? If so, where would I find a replacement? I enjoy unicycling, but having to twist back the saddle after every time I fall is annoying.

Why 18 inch? Cuz why not. I will test it soon, it's too late to ride today and I have twisted ankle. Getting the right spokes was the biggest pain in the ass I ever felt when building a uni

Hardware Should I get a Mad4One saddle

Hey, at the moment I have a Fusion Freeride. Ist okey but I definitely need to get more up so my ass does not get numb. So I searched for handlebars and found the mad4one. I would like the handle saddle L so I can mount a bag for touring on it. But I'm not sure if it's comfortable. For reference I tried the Fusion One there I had a feeling of sitting on my bone. The QX eleven was to curved so let's just say I sat on pasts there I definitely don't want to sit on.

Thanks a lot

Hardware Which Brake lever mount for the Mad4One Super Comfy saddle?

I have a mad4one 26" Muni with a disc brake (https://www.mad4one.com/de/muni/434-26-urc-muni.html). But the brake lever mount that came with the bike is too short, which causes the brake lever to protrude from the saddle. This means that whenever my unicycle falls over towards the front, the brake lever takes the majority of the impact! This is obviously not good. I cannot mount the brake lever mount on the second pair of bolts, because they are spaced just slightly further apart than the front two bolts.

I have found brake lever mounts for Kris Holm, Nimbus and Qu-ax saddles (https://www.einradladen.com/Brakes - I'm in Germany). But I have not found any technical drawings of them and am unsure which one will fit both the saddle and be long enough to mount the brake lever such that it no longer protrudes. The screw hole spacing for the Kris Holm one looks like it would fit, but it also seems to be the shortest of the three.

On the mad4one saddle the front two bolts have a spacing of approximately 35mm and the seconds pair of bolts has a spacing of approximately 40mm.

  • Did anyone else have the same problem? If so, how did you solve it?
  • Can you nice people send me the screw hole spacing and length of the brake levers linked above (or alternatives whereever you got them from?) if you have them?

Edit: I have achieved such a level of english proficiency that I no longer translate words, but go by feel - leading to typos such as break instead of brake :skullemoji:

Hardware Boiyoiyoiyoiyoiyoing taco

So today we learned how to make a 12 person taco and that both lacing pull springs like spokes and pull springs in general are not a viable replacement for spokes. Compression springs would be much better suited to hand horizontal forces and still give vertical movement. Now that we have this information we can use it to make a better version

A unicycle that moves at a 1:1 when pedaling forward and moves faster forward when pedaling backward. It currently has a 1:-3 because I’m too lazy to change it. I still need a few more measurements from an isis hub (which I don’t own) and modify the contact points.

Haven’t had much luck finding just the seat for sale. Any ideas? I liked having a handle but it fell off over a year ago. Been procrastinating buying a new seat since.

Hardware Boiyoiyoiyoiyoiyoing fix

A fix for the spring wheel has been determined and will be in the works soon. We are going to take two steel discs and weld them on the hubs axle inside the flange, these discs will have a large flat steel spoke split into two sections connected by a hinge. This spoke will be connected to the steel disc and rim by a hinge, this allows the wheel to stretch but prevent lateral rotation. There will be five of these spokes on each of the two discs for a total of ten, and a wider rim will be used

I wanna get some new pedals for my uni as the ones on it are smaller (kids bike sized) and are breaking and getting smaller. Should I replace them with equally small pedals, or get bigger, bmx platform style pedals?

Hardware Water bottles and handles

How do you attach a water bottle to one of those handlebar sets? I’ve got the Nimbus Shadow set and want to put just a normal bottle cage on it (i.e. one that doesn’t screw in), but I don’t know how it’ll do being basically horizontal most of the time. Ideas? Product recommendations? Need something cheap but durable, of course.

Edit: Ended up just going down to my local bike shop and buying something; got a sidemount bottle cage with these fancy threaded zip-tie things with a screw to tension them. Works great! Thank y'all for your help.
