I assume she’s claiming never to have used loo roll and to only have been vaguely aware of it being in the house.

They were hidden round the side of the house where she rarely looks as she only walks in the front door.
Also she didn't question the pallet loads on her mother in law's drive, because she was at the time consuming a raw oyster and prune diet.

I'm so annoyed at myself for thinking this, but honestly her answers in that interview were so stupid I tend to believe she's telling the truth now...
Surely if she was lying she'd put more effort in...? She's a politician after all. She should be quite capable of coming up with some BS narratives to answer media questions.
The fact she didn't, maybe implies she was being honest? I know my GF has no idea how much cars and camper vans cost, and given our income she'd probably not really question a lot of this stuff either.
I know I'm way too trusting and way too charitable though so I suspect it's quite likely I'm wrong.

Nicola Sturgeon is one of the sharpest political operators the UK has produced in my lifetime, and a lawyer by training.
She was in charge of the party the funds were stolen from and the household where they ended up.
She wants us to believe it was entirely her husband's doing and nothing she saw aroused her suspicions.
I don't believe her.

The idea her own husband stole on the scale he did without her being aware insults everyone’s intelligence, first and foremost hers which we all know she doesn’t lack.

If anything, it's a compliment to her training that she always knew just where not to look to avoid seeing something that'd be trouble for her.

give all the SNP sh1te that they spout those 108 rolls would only last a few hours

Are we sure he actually bought 108 loo rolls? Is it possible he just picked up enough copies of The National to send out to the SNPs local offices?

I’m fairly sure ad impressions from /r/ukpolitics are the only thing keeping the national in business.
Maybe they read it in the Kremlin as well.

Proof that the only effective way to prevent Covid was to build a loo roll fort and hide in it.
That’s why the elites were telling us not to stock up. They wanted all the loo roll for themselves.

How did he start coming home with all this extra stuff and she not even think how he was affording it?
Doesn't everyone have a rough idea of how much money their spouse brings in?
33
u/setokaiba22 18h ago
I don’t think the loo rolls would highlight as something he couldn’t afford mind
5
u/SereneMalcolm 18h ago
And overall it wouldn't cost more money it's just bulk buying so you don't have to buy more very soon
14
u/Conscript1811 18h ago
Didn't he have a 6-figure salary?

A lot of people seem to forget this. They were earning a combined income of around £250k, maybe more, and don't have any children. That's a lot of disposable income.

u/Huge-Captain-5253 17h ago
It's a lot of disposable income, but you have to imagine there was some core understanding of what was going in and what was going out. I guess it depends on how separate they kept their finances.
2
u/LadyAntimony 16h ago
Even on a combined income of £250k, with savings from a few years of that income & low outgoings, I think most people would expect their spouse to at least briefly mention that they were thinking of buying a Jaguar and a motorhome.
I would have found it way less suspicious if she had said she was aware he’d bought them but had disagreed with the purchase, thought it was too much money, but ultimately they had enough money to plausibly afford it and thought they’d been purchased on finance. Being stereotypical for a moment, plenty of men buy cars that are more expensive than their wives would like. Especially now that so many cars are bought on PCP, it’s increasingly common to have a car parked on the drive that you can’t afford to buy outright.
The “he stashed several hundred thousand pounds worth of vehicle around the side of the house and refused to say a word about it, naturally I thought that was normal” defense is unconvincing. It’s pretty much admitting that she knew but deliberately didn’t ask too many questions to maintain plausible deniability.
But maybe she thinks admitting they had enough money to afford it, and embezzled out of pure greed rather than necessity, would be even more unpopular?

Alarm bells definitely should have rang when she saw him sat on his toilet roll throne he made in the living room.

u/opusdeath 18h ago
She's been photographed being interviewed in her kitchen with some of the items behind her. She was wearing a necklace he bought with the funds too.
It is possible he spun a terrible lie and she's been badly betrayed but I don't think she's done a good job of explaining that satisfactorily so far.
£400k is such a lot of money to come into without a good explanation.

How did he afford bog roll??

Our political corruption is so petit.
If this was American, the congressman would have used the insider information to buy major stocks in toilet roll manufacturing for him and his whole family and made millions.
Ours buys £40 of extra bog roll...
Still wrong, but I just can't be arsed to be that bothered by it.

u/tam3r0wn 13h ago
These jokers want more control and more money though, given that they can't be trusted with relatively small change, the idea that they could run things honestly if they did have more power is ideological nonsense. Thats why you should be bothered.
The snp are crooked like them all, and people are waking up to it (finally)

Hear me out though: buying 108 loo rolls shouldn’t be considered panic buying. I buy 48 at a time from Whole Gives a Crap, it’s just less bother

He's done wrong and is being punished for it but that's a bit harsh lol he's not some kind of monster he's a greedy fraud - not sure I believe Nicola didn't notice a 120k camper van on her mother in laws drive down the road though lol.

A bog roll boarder eh? The lowest of the low. Well, right after tabloid journalists and corrupt politicians.

Can't remember the Mail giving Cummins such a gotcha moment when he went on a jolly to Barnards Castle, or when Boris was partying up with his sycophants.

Nicola never went into the bathroom of her house, she was just too busy being First Minister...

The rich get richer.
I'm more worried about Charles and his homewrecker highly respected partner who ran off to scotland after contracting covid and nobody ever questioned him
