Importance of networking as a barrister?

Hi all,

I’m hoping that if I were to acquire pupillage, I’d be very interested in trying to broaden my practice area whilst I’m still a junior.

If I was to ensure I was very active as a lawyer - hosting events, going to networking events, organising dinners, etc etc.

Would this help me to develop better relationships with solicitors, and potentially enable me to find more lucrative work in the long run.

How important is networking with partners/associates/even paralegals as a barrister?

EDIT: phrasing

Clearly, yes it is important.    Even the paralegals,  maybe one day they will be the partner with the power over which bazza is instructed.

Depending on practice area, the paralegals may be choosing who to instruct now. Depends on the role but you’d be surprised how much influence they can have on that.

I avoided it like the plague in my early career and now regret it. It can even be fun if you avoid the wanky lawyer-is-my-entire-personality brigade.
