Weekly art thread: Hina Kagiyama

Hello, and welcome to the weekly art thread. This is for people to show off their skill, learn stuff, and have fun. So long as it’s original art by you, it’s welcome. You can use what ever art medium you like: Drawings, water color, Digital art, MMD, Music, Programming, and Cosplay, if you made it, you can post it. Don’t worry about skill, just do your best.

Each week, this’ll be synced up to the same character as the music threads. There will be Exceptions how ever, such as non specific themes. In these cases, a random character that has already been used in the music thread will be the focus.

The theme character should be in it, but apart from that, you can have any other characters you want, and any setting. The deadline is until the next character art thread, but if you're late, you can put it in the next one, just say it's the character from the last week. Gore is allowed, but you’ll need to tag it. NSFW is permitted, but you'll have to tag it NSFW.

Other things you can submit: You can submit art tutorials, and I’ll save them to a document, and link it here for easy access to help

i had horrible art block throughout last week

so have that unfinished painting i was feeling REALLY GOOD ABOUT for one hour and then never wanted to touch ever again for the rest of the week, and a hasty two hour black pen sketch i did just now which highlights my abysmal anatomy and inattention to detail

it began with me having ideas and it ended with me attempting to set my ideas on fire with several tanks of propane

Hank hill would be proud on the propane bit.

I like the lily one, makes me think of something that belongs in the walls of a mansion. The stuff you'd expect from the bob ross shows.

The other one looks a bit like she's doing a JoJo pose

(old man voice) the kids these days like to make the hand symbols, so i think i was going for a hip hop thing with the crossed arms and such. get a rap album going. "sakura steppin' ft. li'l spring".

I like them, funny and cute. On the last one, I can sort of imagine her singing some creepy song about spring wiping out and destroying winter. Might just be the black backdrop though

If we're strictly technical about it, I don't even need to draw a Hina this week.

Back when I was doing the Winter layout, I made a Christmas Hina that we could never find a place to use it in.

And here it is.

I'm still doing a sexy Hina, though, because the LEWDTRAIN cannot be stopped.

Thanks! That was just me messing around with poses and wasn't meant to be in with the full thing, but I drew it a bit too close.

Oh, guess that explains why everyone's posting Lilies. The time you put into your art really shows! Maybe I should start posting a week late, too...

I love seeing WIP's too, because of how it lets you see other's drawing processes. I tend to save copies of my WIP's, so I'll start uploading them in the upcoming weeks.

Finished Hina is finally up! She's edited into in the original post. Can't wait to see your Hina. :)

Done with sketching for today. I managed to finish a rough layout, but she seems kind of too far to the right. I like the spin though. Sadly I didn't get much legs in there even though I tried a lot to lift the skirt. >:D

I'm not close to being done but I got carpal tunnel something bad. I'm gonna cut off the right side and make them into legs

Edit: I know change the dress. Frills will go with the spinning

I'm gonna see if I can vector something up, or at least her face. For the drawing, anybody got a request of a silly thing for me to try and draw hina doing? Not that good at art, so don't expect anything pretty.

I might draw Hina with Brock Samson's face, but that's the only thing I can think of.

LAST WEEK THREAD - LILY WHITE

I know it sounds maybe a little self-centered from a late poster like me, but from my DA stats at least I noticed that when you post your artwork later during the week you usually get much less exposure and at the same time it kind of feels strange to repost your art into the new week and when you wait for the next week and post Lily under Hina thread... I just think we need some unified policy on this.

Lets talk!

Yeah....I've forgotten to upgrade the list, I should do it tomorrow if I rmember. Been a bit out of it lately. But I'll do that tomorrow. I promise. Shouldn't take too long, like 20 minutes.

Anyway.....There's no rush post it whenever you want. So long as you made it, there's not much to argue. I actually wouldn't mind if some people made some non touhou art along side their normal art to show it off. I say alongside it since, I'm not sure a general everything art thread would fit here specifically.

I kind of liked the lack of organization we had last week. Putting stuff under different replies makes it kinda cluttered... also how about putting a link to last week's thread? Especially because the google document hasn't been updated and I can't always access google docs anyways. At least with a link we would have a singly-linked list of all the threads. You could even link the last few threads, the "favorite arrange" thread is organized really well and I think you could use a lot of those ideas. One last thing, maybe throw in a link to the wiki page of the character? I always go there first if I'm thinking about what to draw.

I think we need some, ahem, leg tutorials this week. You know, for reasons.

Really, though, if you know of any good arm/leg tutorials, I'd be very grateful if you could point me in that direction!

What I can tell you first, is which ones you shouldn't pay attention to.

Essentially, all the ones that tell you to draw legs like this. The "start with a couple of lines, then fill out the details VOILA!! MAGIC!!" kind of tutorial.

Now that we have THAT out of the way, let's look at some useful resources.

  • If you want a good tutorial, see first this. It covers how to build the muscles from the bones. Easy to follow, good to start on a path of Nice Leg Drawings.

  • If you want something that is essentially a very valuable infodump, look no further. It's similar to the tutorials we don't want, but fleshes things out much better, and gives a lot of little details you may overlook.

  • You said you wanted feet? You don't need to know moonspeak to understand this one. Very visual, color coded even.

  • A simple yet enlightening sketch.

If I told you the FIVE different ways I draw legs, you'd call me crazy.

And I'd say "You're right sir/ma'am, I am crazy, but you're also crazy, otherwise why are you here?"

But let's make an experiment: If enough people want to, I'll show you the one I learned from my painting teacher years ago. It's kinda crazy, and allows you to do some awesome poses, but it's a double edged sword. It's fun for sketching, tho!

No no, so, the sidebar has two links, the # links to the current thread, and the text links to that subreddit Wiki page (which I linked below). Edit the subreddit wiki page. Only mods have sidebar edit permission, that's something I keep up to date (for all the weekly threads). Goph & Slap have been updating their Wiki pages as we go along, though I've had to make up for them a few times too.

These are the key concepts that I set for myself:

  • Legs. LEGS. LEGS.
  • Show, but don't show.
  • Bows, Corset and Garter

Last week's challenge, to me, was color. this week's self-challenge is detail.

So far, the first sketch looks... Very promising. Gotta work on her expression, though. u_u

I don't pick the character for the art week, Gopherlad does. and even so, you don't have to be held back on it, it's mainly there to get people interested in a group effort thing. Been thinking of revising to make that in the rules. So if you want to draw it, go ahead. I personally like goofy stuff like that, so i'll be waiting.

To try and out do you....

Because the idea of a silly art pissing contest sounds too fun to pass up
