DISCUSSION If they make another Punisher show they need to make Frank more calculated and tactical
I was watching the 2004 Punisher and he was smart and calculated I feel like Jon Bernthal's Punisher is just an angry man who yells like a gorilla who still hasn't gotten over his trauma

My two biggest complaints about this version is the lack of tactical planning and stalking and the egregious amount of chad-mumbling Bernthal does making him sound like a nut.

He’s gonna be retired, minding his own business until he gets involved in some shit that’ll force him to wear the skull again and go on a journey to rediscover himself as the punisher, A G A I N.

Isn’t that kind of what the short movie was about? He was trying to be out but was pulled back in and just accepted that’s who he was meant to be and wore the skull at the end.

This is what every single appearance of MCU Punisher has been about

The series he didn’t seem like he wanted to be out. He was so bent on revenge he was almost reckless and obsessed with killing but he was indestructible. But he never seemed like he wanted to be done with it. Not that I remember anyway

He does tactically plan though and the yelling is overemphasized because all sound is increased during those fights.
All of season 1 his plans worked

Anyone working on a Punisher adaptation should be made to watch the motel scene in No Country for Old Men.

Thats one of the problems with Bernthal. His acting is great but he seems like such a buffoon. Crying, barking etc. He seems to survive on toughness more than anything else. I really dislike that. Frank is much more like a Batman: a master planner!

Right? You can have PTSD without acting the way Bernthal is acting. He and the writers seem to think PTSD means acting in the most erratic way possible (it is not). Having PTSD doesn't mean they should forgo Frank's strategicness and smarts.

This doesn’t even make sense? What does him having ptsd have to do with his combat tactics? Hes not having a mental breakdown in combat

Tbf I see the connection - he screams the same way when he's having PTSD episodes as he does when he's wading into a fight with no plan like a fuckin barbarian.

But he isn’t having a break down in combat, he is actually at peace during combat.

OLK ended with some clarity for him, he probably (hopefully) will be past the hallucinations now, just there to get shit done now

Ok but then how is he supposed to tell us something? Also if he’s too tactical there’s a chance he’ll get sleepy and take a nap and we can’t have that

Poor Frank got tactically tuckered out

Absolutely agree. I loved One Last Kill, but now we need to Frank in actual Punisher mode where he scopes out and gather intelligence on his enemy and methodically takes their operations apart by killing. He should only be forced into desperate firefights and QC combat when things go wrong. Low how he took out the Irish mafia in DD s2, he didn't burst in yelling and getting shot and stabbed himself, he waited for them all to be in one places and mowed them down with a minigun.

Bernthal is the worst live action Punisher. His dumbass grunts and screams make him seem more like a mentally challenged person with severe ptsd, instead of the cold, calm, and calculated vigilante from the comics.

I think at this point I’m fine with this version of punisher being like the hulk. Just have him show up in movies and other peoples shows already as the punisher.

Crazy how tactical he was in the first season of his show, but he's mostly a gorilla man who I struggle to see why he's such a threat.

Bernthal plays the role as an angry veteran with PTSD, which has never really been the Punisher’s MO.
However, not a lot of actors would want to play a stoic, emotionless man of few words and, if I’m honest, I don’t see MCU fans embracing that kind of character either.

I see a lot of dislike for his portrayal.
But season 1 punisher, with Micro directing him, to me was amazing!
Season 2 onwards....hm
But that season 1 I loved it so much

Ironically, Bernthal in The Accountant 2 acts much more like a comic-accurate Punisher (at least in fight scenes).

For the last time, comics Punisher isn't an emotionless killing machine, and Bernthal's Punisher isn't a "gorilla" because he has more than one emotion and yelled a few times.

They’re not really mad about the shit they’re saying. Those are just excuses. The sudden insane amount of Berenthal hate is all about him not hating cops. He came out pro-cop and suddenly he’s the worst actor ever. It’s so fucking obvious and pathetic.

I agree to an extent. I like that Bernthal supports the police and military, but always thought he wasn’t a good representation of the character and he does use the character as a vehicle for his military worship, as the only thing he seems to care about is what police/military thinks of the character and he overemphasizes the marine aspect for his version of the Punisher.
Two things can be true at once. He is a poor representation of the character however all this extreme hate for his Punisher definitely only came out because people saw what he said recently about the Punisher belonging to the military and police. Part of the reason people are pissed is because of the very wrong misconception by people who don’t read the comics that the Punisher hates cops. They hate police and the military and they project that onto the character so they feel betrayed that the actor stands by police and military and thinks its character assassination.

He is constantly yelling and grunting. And retiring.
He sucks.

That how Castle is supposed to operate. He’s a tactician and certain runs emphasize that and thats the groundwork for a great Punisher run I believe. Him being isolated and cold and stern shows his dedication and determination to snuff out evil and makes him feel like a force of nature.
Especially when he has loads of guns and feels like a one man army.
