Album The Kinks & ARTHUR (1969):

'ARTHUR' (1969): Seeking out a song with more astute social comment than 'Shangri-La' is not worth the effort. It hasn't been recorded.

I didn’t fully understand the song until I saw my first real subdevelopment, in the suburbs of Montreal.

All the houses in the street have got a name; ‘cause all the houses in the street they look the same.

Ah yes, the suburbs of Montreal, where people tear down trees to build the streets they name after them.

Shangri-La is as true now as it was then. Truly timeless commentary on British suburban life.
