Plant Help/Question Good or bad mold?

Hello folks,

New to the game, and saw this under the lid and wondered if I should be concerned.

Thanks

I say this nicely...but the only living thing I see in there is the mold

Once its redone I would really like to see it...im wanting to do more small ones but they are pretty intimidating to me...small...less room for mistakes

The reason why it is molding is because everything died in their long time ago, and the moisture content. If you are comfortable with a terrarium full of mold, then yes, it is fine

Don't be discouraged, the jar can be used again and you get to make a new terrarium. Make sure you add springtails to the new and improved terrarium as they'll keep the mold at bay. What I do when making a terrarium is put the drainage layer, barrier and substrate layer in then before you put the plants in add the water and slowly over a couple of days add water until it seems to be the right amount ie the substrate is damp and condensation might have formed on the glass at this point but it's not a problem if it hasn't, Then add the plants. I do it this way as it stops water sitting on the plants and damaging them. If you think there's to much water in you could leave the top off for a day or so, until some of the water has evaporated.

How long ago did you begin curating this terrarium? What did you stock it with? What substrate did you use?

I have using this as a terrarium for about a year. but left it open normally. Early this year I started to close this jar.

I used, fine sand, marble nuggets, some soil and moss from outside
