The office chilling equipment broke, and nobody knew how dependent we were on it
The office fridge and the water cooler both died in the same week and all the chilling equipment died in the same week!. With the weather getting hotter in summer, and the building's AC was already struggling. Most people started bringing insulated water bottles and ice packs. But somehow, nobody said nor did anything about it. As a new staff member, it would be highly unreasonable for me to do that. So I just watched and followed the pattern.
I noticed that most people started bringing their own beverages to work, but the ones in the canteen stayed there untouched. The break room turned into a sad pantry of warm sodas. Some of my colleagues started leaving at lunch to find cold drinks.
It took 3 weeks before the accounting department could disburse money for maintenance and another week of combing online platforms like Alibaba. The tech guy came in 2 days later after the new office fridge and water cooler arrived, together with new ACs that would replace the old ones. When the new fridge hummed to life, people cheered, as if we’d landed a huge deal. Well, the atmosphere felt alive again, and I loved every bit of it.
I never thought about how much office comfort and productivity depend on a compressor and a fan.

You are certainly not alone in this realization. When the A/C or office fridge breaks, productivity plummets and employee comfort immediately takes a massive hit.
