III. Rang Mitte. Tickets are cheap, view is good.

The steps in front of the main entrance (they're free)

Finde die Logen im 1. Rang ganz geil, vorne am Balkon vom 1. Rang ist auch baba

  1. Rang, idealerweise Mitte und in Reihe 1 oder 2. Seite ist auch OK. Oder 3. Rang vorne. Auf keinen Fall Parkett, da ist die Sicht meistens schlecht, vor allem, wenn man nicht so groß ist.

Cheap, good view: 3rd balcony, front row. Good view, still affordable: 2nd balcony to the sides.

Preisgruppe 4 in the Parkett has the best view for its price compared to the more expensive seats

Thank you fo yo contributions. What is this "Einführung" that they set 45min before the opera starts? If the show is starting at 7pm, I don't wanna come at 6.15pm.

Someone who worked on the production, usually a dramaturg talks about the opera, giving historical context and information about the plot and it's themes, the music and the composer as well as the Stuttgart production. For anyone seeing the opera for the first time or people who are less experienced with opera in general, I highly recommend listening in, but it is in no way required. I always go to the Einführung because I can enjoy the opera even more with the information provided, but lots of people prefer to go to the bar instead :)

It really depends. Usually my budget is enough for category 3-5. I generally prefer Parkett but front row in the balconies is also good if I can find it

Perhaps unpopular view but 10th row on the middle is the best location.

Just checked out the website. Funny that they charge 2€ "Servicegebühr" when buying the ticket online. At least the cinemas don't do it. Yet.

But I usually prefer Karlsruhe anyway. It's cheaper and it doesn't have these awful modern productions. And the performers are still very good!

Really? I love most modern productions. Station Paradiso right now is so good!

Wait a sec, if they still have the non modern stuff in Stuggi, why would you hate on the modern stuff?

I don't mean modern operas. I don't care much for those, but I don't mind them having a spot on the program. I'm talking about these super modern productions of classic operas. I once saw one of their Rigoletto performances where the Duke had to climb and slide down a playground slide while singing one of his arias. That's plain idiotic. I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to the production, I like the operas to look the way they were written and not as "Regietheater". And I usually go with my Dad, who is 85, his partner and my brother, and we all have the same preference. Last time we were in Stuttgart, we saw their Rusalka, where Rusalka and the nymphs all have drag queen dance doubles. Surprisingly, that worked quite well and I would actually recommend this production, but I had to explain to my Dad what all these males in dresses were doing on the stage 😁. That's why we prefer Karlsruhe. But to each his own... de gustibus and all that.

Thank you kindly, that was illuminating. I assume it is known in advance if they are doing a modern take on a classic opera. Since I am a newbie, I would also prefer to see it done in a classic way.

If that's the case, I strongly recommend you to look at the production beforehand on the website and/or maybe watch a trailer on youtube.

German theater + opera is infamous for its modern retellings of classic pieces, it's basically 70% of what's done in German theaters especially. (The opera is a bit more conservative, but they might still hit you with Don Giovanni as a blade of grass or whatever.) I like this very much, I'm not a traditionalist at all and I love to see new takes on old matters. But it's senseless to waste time and money on a production whose style you're simply bound to hate, so absolutely look at the promo material before deciding on what to buy tickets for! You will be able to tell if it's to your liking or not :)
