It must suck to be Gutt and never playing any of the material you've recorded with the band live. Greatest hits set over and over and over and over.................................

When i saw them in 2022 they played 2 songs off of 2018 ST and it was really good. they should do that more

Considering STP catalog he knew it before joining the band mate.

He sells it well. Saw their short set in Huntsville (due to lightning storms) & he still was great. Would love to see them do more from their last two albums but the problem is the masses only want a GH package.

I stopped reading at ‘It must suck to be Gutt’. He’s living the dream imo

Robert replied to a comment on IG that asked them to add changes to their setlist. He said they would. I had hopes they would play a few deep cuts, but still looks the same. Looks like I'm not catching the tour this year.

That's literally the only reason they hired Gutt.

STP got back together for money. The DeLeos wanted to constantly tour because that's where the money is. Scott got burnt out, and they used his personal issues to force him out. Scott was also vocally against these "greatest hits" shows. He wanted to do deeper cuts, albums in their entirety, covers, etc. But that doesn't sell tickets, and only appeals to hardcore fans; and not the people who go to 80's & 90's nostalgia concerts. Same thing with Chester. He wanted to collaborate and actually grow STP, but Chester is a big name, and the DeLeos wouldn't have control. Plus constant touring makes more money than new albums, so that failed. Which is where Gutt was hired. He'll do what he's told, "play the part", and the "greatest hits" touring hasn't stopped since. Not like he had much else going on.

Sources?

Not sure what specific "source" you expect.

Be a fan for 26+ years, read articles, quotes, interviews, and follow the band through the ups & downs. It's all there pretty obvious.

Well I'll just take your word for it then. You'll be my "go to" person anything STP related, and if I want inside info or new, hot information I'll message you. Keep your DM's open.

I can try to help, but there isn't much new or hot information after 2013 when Stone Temple Pilots ceased to exist.

I've been a huge fan since first hearing Plush on the radio. Then became even more of a fan when the 2nd & 3rd albums came out. Those three albums helped me get through most difficult times of my life. I didn't read the magazines, and unfortunately I was never in a position to see them live throughout the 90's and early '00's. I finally did see them in '21 and thought it was great to see the 3 original members. I actually think Jeff does a fine job. I read Scott's book, thought it felt a bit rushed, would have liked more elaboration on some of the things he touched briefly on.

Tell me what the difference is between written a song and writing "the melody"?

"Tell me what the difference is between written a song and writing "the melody"

I'm not a musician. From my understanding, the melodies would tie the lyrics into the background music, creating the memorable "hook" of the song. So when you sing along, even if you don't know the words, you could still hum along, or move to the melody.

Scott's lyrics were just unique as his melodies; and that's a talent that can't be replicated. Plus you layer in production quality on top of all that. Thanks to STP's honorary 5th member, Brendan O'Brien. Which is why STP's first 5 albums were all so cohesive and polished, then there's a noticeable dip in production quality on Self Titled when the DeLeos got rid of O'Brien. And why everything they made after Scott (or on their own) suffers in terms of writing, melodies, hooks, and production quality. The DeLeos/Eric are still amazing musicians, but they're just beating a dead horse at this point.

"I actually think Jeff does a fine job."

To each their own. He's an adequate singer. It's like watching a cover band, where you know it's not the real band, but you still get the nostalgia vibe. Obviously the DeLeos and Eric are still great, so that carries them. But it would be like listening to someone replace Kurt Cobain, or Chris Cornell. Its one thing to sing the songs in their honor, but trying to mimic them, dress up like them, or move like them makes it embarrassing.

You get downvoted but some things in what you say are totally true.

Votes from people who think STP + Jeff is the "same band" as they were with Scott, mean nothing.

It’s really pathetic, and anyone who says otherwise isn’t a real fan

Did they play Atlanta?

It was a totally rockin' show! But I will say it would have been nice to hear Meadow or something off Perdida.
