The Elder Moment
Listening to the new album got me thinking about how Elder often has a “moment” in their songs… they’ve spent the whole song getting the hooks in, and now you feel a tug, then a pull as the song suddenly takes shape…
I’m thinking Dead Roots Stirring, or Through Zero on the new album.
What are your favorite Elder Moments? What about other bands that do this particularly well?
God, I’m so fucking high right now. 🔥🔥💨💨

The final breakdown in The Falling Veil is one for me.

Yep. This is the one for me as well. Reflections of a Floating World is still their best, to me.

They talk about “stank face” riffs in stoner doom a lot… this moment elicits something closer to “the oh face”

i want to jump in here with a non stoner answer and say a good “moment” is the final songs from grateful dead’s europe 72. if you listen from the truckin through the morning dew, there’s like three “moments” in morning dew alone. goosebumps if you have a big loud clear system.

Completely agree with everyone’s picks so far. Such a huge part of their music. I would also say Pelican does this a lot. The other one that came to mind is The Last Baron by Mastadon. Anytime you have all that unresolved pent up angst and then the band just yoinks it all together it’s beyond words. It’s why we love the music we love.

KB definitely has a few. 3:50 into Cerberus, 2:43 in Locusts, there are more. But, they really know how to build it up and blow it up.

“Sanctuary”, the last 2-3 minutes of the song give me goosebumps every time.
I first heard that song in June 2023 or 2024 on Apple Music and it apparently became my top song that year.
