Pre-op prep Countdown has begun

My bisalp is in exactly 30 days. Besides a c-section, I’ve never had any other procedures/surgeries. My pre-op appointment is 6/19 and I’m sure my doctor will tell me anything I’ll need to know, but for those who’ve also had a bisalp, did you have to take your piercings out? I had a few done before I got called for an available date, so they will still be a bit new come surgery.

I’m so nervous for the whole thing

If you have had a C-section this will be a breeze in comparison, but still anxiety provoking leading up to it.

I think the piercing question will depend on 1. Where they are and 2. Your medical team. I asked my doctor ahead of time at my pre-op and because they were all in my ears she was okay with it. Said they might end up taping over my ears? No idea if that happened lol. I told the RN at the hospital when I got there that the doctor had said that and didn't get any fuss.

They are in my ears. Hopefully I get to do this too bc I’d be very bummed if they were affected due to having to take them out. Cartilage piercings are so finicky

100% understand! I had a helix and a daith I did not want to mess with. I took out my lobe ones as that was easy. Fingers crossed you can keep them in!

I wasn’t informed about taking out my piercing (septum.) and the surgical team asked me when they took me back if it’s something that stays in all the time or if I take it out and I said other than when I clean it, it stays in and they let me keep it in. It’ll depend on your team tho because I’ve seen posts go either way with that experience. Maybe ask and see if you can at least keep your new ones in

I’ll definitely ask if that is an option. I’ve seen some doctors also ask to remove nail polish before surgery so who knows

I have not had a c section or given birth but my bisalp was the easiest surgery in the world. I had some cramping but I think it’s because a mirena was inserted. Other than that I didn’t even have the gas pain that others warned me about since I took gas-x

They told me no metal jewelry in my piercings bc of the cautery used. So I just switched all of mine to the plastic retainers for the surgery and switched them back afterward

Were they fairly new? Mine are only a couple of months so I’m worried they’ll become irritated and cause trouble healing or close for the time I won’t have anything in. I did just text my piercer and she’ll get some retainers for me in case doctor says they have to go

My helix was my most recent one that I had done a little less than a year ago (just had my bisalp on Tuesday). The retainer unfortunately was a size smaller than my original jewelry so when I got them switched back, the holes had gotten smaller around the retainer. It was a little uncomfortable getting the jewelry back in but only for about a day it was kinda sore

I was told to take them out and have no metal in! It just depends on what kind of cauterizing they use. If it’s electric, it could transfer to your ears and could cauterize your ear piercings which you do not want!

Also, if there’s a complication, they don’t wanna have to take them out if you have to go into an MRI.

I was told to get silicone retainers for mine, and I put them in with no issue. Good luck!

They made me take my septum ring out and didn’t even let me keep a plastic retainer in. They said it could potentially become an issue if they had to give me a breathing tube. Luckily I’ve had this piercing for about 6 years now and put it back in as soon as I got home lol

I kept my septum, two nostrils and 4 ear piercings in. They let me tape over them!
