"Minority in the Afrikaans population"

So a minority in a minority decided a state (obviously its that state, no prizes for guessing), has ceded from SA and they claim another state too. As well as 200 tons of gold.

As funny as that is, these people really should be just ignored. Every news article encourages them.

Really? All of KZN? They want to go to war with the Zulus?

45

u/BoerInDieWoestyn Left because I can't afford food on a teacher's salary Feb 01 '26

This is what I was thinking. Like if they really want to do this I'm not going to stop them because I know they're going to be trampled by the zulus. It's not Bloedrivier anymore, the zulus have guns now too.

13

u/SoutieNaaier Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

KZN was also never really an Afrikaner stronghold lol

Iirc, the largest White population there is English but I could be wrong.

Orania "works" because they were at least smart enough to do it on somewhat useless land in the middle of nowhere, but this is just stupid

Edit: They're using the Richtersveld case to claim Afrikaners in former Natalia are privy to the same remedy the Nama received due to both being victims of British annexation

Key hang up is Afrikaners didn't have generational customary occupation, but the claim is they inherited a similar status due to "willing buyer, willing seller" policies

Depends who you ask ofc, I'm a white Afrikaner and i don't believe that im superior to anyone but almost all of my family don't like africans and feel superior.

I honestly believe that most Afrikaaners are racists based on my experiences but there's still a lot of us who aren't I'd say the ratio is for every 5 white south africans 1 isn't racist.

18

u/FormalFuneralFun Gauteng Feb 01 '26

As a white English south african, I have been called “fokken pommie” by at least 3 different Afrikaans people.

19

u/WeaponizedWaspSwarm Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

I was born and raised in Johannesburg I had friends from all backgrounds growing up, a few years ago I left Johannesburg and moved to an town that was mainly Afrikaans where I was told by a guy and his group of friends who approached me and said that I was filthy and had to speak a "clean language" like Afrikaans and that I wasn't welcome.

I basically said noted and ignored him which he hated and he kept trying to get a rise out of me. An old woman I spoke to a few months later- also an English speaker said she had that issue a few times in the 20 years she'd been there. Naturally this made her refuse to learn Afrikaans.

That guy and his little group is the type of Afrikaner my Afrikaans friends would mock and my father warned me about- I thought it was all exaggeration but nope. Prior to this my friends grandfather refused to interact with me simply because I wasn't Afrikaans, when I asked her about him she told me he was fluent in English, he just hated me because I was English and that I should ignore him lol.

Edit: I dont hate Afrikaners just in case people start making assumptions.

14

u/ironicallygeneral Aristocracy Feb 01 '26

I was working in a hotel and had someone (in Afrikaans) go on a whole tirade about "this is [area], I don't have to speak in English here, greet me in Afrikaans". All I'd done was say good afternoon. I smiled and said "I'm so sorry, I don't speak Afrikaans, I'm not from here" and forced him to go through the checking in process in English.

I am perfectly fluent, I wasn't born in South Africa but I moved here in my teens and lived in an Afrikaans town. He just pissed me off. If he'd just returned my greeting in Afrikaans I'd have switched over for him, no problem.

7

u/WeaponizedWaspSwarm Feb 01 '26

My time there made me not even bother at all with Afrikaans. And those types are the first to cry racism

8

u/FormalFuneralFun Gauteng Feb 01 '26

My Afrikaans grandfather’s parents disinherited my grandfather for marrying a second-gen English/Irish woman (my grandmother). My father never met that side of the family because they refused to interact with anyone of English descent.

In a way, I get it. The Anglo-Boer war was a shitshow, the English treated the Afrikaaners like animals… but this is South Africa. The people around now had no involvement in that atrocity, we just want to get along with our lives. We live in a melting-pot and there is so much hate in the world. It would be so cool if we all just got along.

11

u/OhGee1228 Feb 01 '26

Now just imagine any indigenous person refuse to speak anything thing but Zulu or Xhosa to them. They would surely kak their pants. One would've thought that people that remember how it felt to called less than human would not want to visit that upon another race... yet apartheid happened. And now some fuckers wanna go back to that system.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

5

u/OhGee1228 Feb 01 '26

Yeah I am coloured and when I am around my mostly black friends they switch to English to accommodate me, with no issues. I do the same if it's them amongst my coloured friends. Its easier to communicate and just realise we arent that different after all.

Re your comment on not wanting freedom but just their turn to oppress, yeah dude that's the age old story with humans. Often the oppressed becomes worse oppressors once they get freedom.

5

u/theproudprodigy Feb 01 '26

I promise you a lot of black people do judge if you look visibly black and cannot speak the local language of the area fluently, even if it isn't your home language. Some even start to assume you are a foreigner and treat you accordingly. You probably dont look visibly black so they dont apply that reasoning to you.

3

u/WeaponizedWaspSwarm Feb 01 '26

I had a friend a few years ago who complained that black people treated her differently because she couldn't speak anything other than English. My lecturer also said the same thing, he said it's also why a lot of black people are multilingual, he said when you move to a new area you will sometimes be ignored completely until you speak the language in the area.

2

u/WeaponizedWaspSwarm Feb 01 '26

The Irish hated the British and had terrible time too.... I dont tolerate it at all, nor do I think it is beneficial to harp on and cry and raise your children in hatred, instead actually be proud that your people overcame.

Not that I am trying to dismiss or be insensitive, it was an atrocity but I did not put any of their great grandparents who hate me in a camp. Furthermore its a tad hypocritical that they carried out apartheid and get annoyed when black people talk about the generational scars of apartheid. Literally heard a lot of the k word in that town too and "ag man, they must get over it" "its just a word" "I dont let words hurt me, neither should they". Thankfully these are a minority of Afrikaners.

These extremists also like to make a lot of things about race especially when you mention you are from Joburg. They seem to think the government= every black person ever.

Hatred is a choice. I understand hating someone who actually did something to you. I can also hate the English by saying for centuries my ancestors fought them but it serves no one.

In my experience, aside from a few isolated incidents, most South Africans can get along and are pretty chill, rarely have ever had an issue, we are all human and have a lot more in common than we'd like to admit. I love this country. Thankfully these extremists are the loud and annoying minority.

2

u/Gingerbreadman_13 Aristocracy Feb 01 '26

I’ve had several similar experiences when I was growing up just because I primarily speak English. The funny thing is, I’m not English. Yes, I speak the language as my first language but I have no British ancestry. I’m Portuguese. My ancestors didn’t go to battle with their ancestors. I can speak Afrikaans but it’s not great. I could speak to Afrikaaners in Portuguese but I think that would make things harder, not easier. I can also try Spanish or Italian, but I figure of all the languages I know, English is the one we could converse in the easiest, but just because of my language, I’m immediately discriminated against. I grew pretty tired of it quite quickly and now have no patience for racist Afrikaaners. I just walk away from them now that I’m older and stand up for myself better.

Literally what do these folks even understand independence to be?

Like will this group (srry didn't read the article) be able to create and sustain it's own infrastructure? Will it somehow produce most/all it's own goods and services? Will it be able to defend itself against foreign invasions (fuck, even the USA by today's trends)?

Or will it invariably be dependant on "importing" the above-mentioned from RSA?

They're using the Richtersveld case to claim Afrikaners in former Natalia are privy to the same remedy the Nama received due to both being victims of British annexation

Key hang up is Afrikaners didn't have generational customary occupation, but the claim is they inherited a similar status due to "willing buyer, willing seller" policies

It's a somewhat interesting claim, even if it is asinine

1

u/ctnguy Cape Town Feb 01 '26

Besides all the other things wrong with their claims, they miss that the Richtersveld case didn’t entitle the Nama to declare independence from South Africa. Title to the land is one thing, sovereignty is quite another.

We should probably give them some documents or something to show for when they have to go into town to buy like food and fuel and shit.

You know, so if they are out wondering about like if its after dark or if they work in another town, we can confirm they have permission.

A passport won't work becuase they are too small and probably don't possess the means to print such a document... maybe a little slip of paper with their photo and their names and their employers name and who needs them to be out and about.

u/BalanceFit8415 Waiting List for Heaven Full Feb 01 '26

-1

u/GJRichter Feb 01 '26

Ag, goeie Donderdag.

So I feel that each must krap their own nessie and have the signs hinge on every tree and road sign in New South-Kwazulustaat; the consequence will speak for itself, whatever this invites.

I may seem a bit loopy, but I have a very deep and eager belief that South Africa will be the country to watch. We have our dumb shit happening here, and cruel crap, yeah, and infrastructures torn to shreds because of leaders with sympathetic emotional trauma and angry, confused SA's who notices that there is not a dry eye in this house but has to ration their toiletpapier lest the next killer virus hits our streets, guns blazing.

That is only a face to the everyday local citizen. If routines don't change, minds won't. If mindfulness isn't practised, the country won't. But I've seen enough to convince me that I can polish my pride for our country.

I remember after COVID, how absolutely magical it was that a 2019 hit single and in collaboration with an Angolan dancing group, managed to spread Thankfulness for being alive INTO the world. For a short period, we all forgot our differences and we celebrated together.
