The fact that Wes shielded in time is pretty impressive. I don't think most people would even be able to react that quickly.

Eddy don't fucking lie to us, we know there's some way to misfiring on command that all the Luigi mains keep secret.
TEACH ME SENPAI PLEASE

You need to develop a spiritual connection with Luigi. Unless your soul is entwined with his, you can't main Luigi

u/popmycherryyosh May 25 '15
what JDMcWombat is saying, if you didn't become a plumber at a young age and have a older, fatter, brother (that for some reason gets all the girls!) then you're pretty much screwed, and have to leave it to the RNG.

That's not it. You need to form a companionship with Luigi that is so powerful that it transcends the RNG values and frame data of Melee.

Why did he die laughing when you asked why the lemonade was pink?

I'm not Eddy but I'll give it a shot. I live in Mexico and never knew of pink lemonade's existence until the first time I went to the US. I'm guessing Eddy didn't know about it either and was surprised to find out.

Same here!! Pink lemonade threw Me off when I first came to the states, always assumed it was yellow, or a light yellow.

u/stephangb May 26 '15
Where I live lemonade looks greyish-green like this.

u/tashiwwww May 26 '15
If it's Mexico, the lemonade may be made from limes.
2
u/stephangb May 26 '15
It's Brazil, but yeah, it is made from what you call limes (you can find the yellow lemon but it is not as widespread here).
2
u/Considuous Peach May 26 '15
This makes it sound like you think limes are just a green variety of lemons. That is not correct. Seperate fruit.
2
u/stephangb May 26 '15
Yeah but they are basically the same thing (and you can use one if you don't have the other in hand for pretty much anything), they taste almost exactly the same (at least here in Brazil) the only difference I can tell is that lime is more acidic.

It was something like this: "Hey Wes, why is the lemonade pink? Wes: "Hahaha, IDK, why don't you ask them?" I go to the cashier: Excuse me, why is the lemonade pink? Cashier: sorry sir I can change your lemonade if... Me: No, I love pink lemonade! Wes runs away laughing.
He laughed because he didn't expect that I would ask the cashier.
BTW the cashier told me they use strawberries (I think). First time I drank pink lemonade was in 2009.

This is a comedy video.
I feel now I truly understand the mindset of a luigi. I believe I will now be able to analyze my opponent more and because of that play overall better.

There is actually value in there. It's surrounded by a bunch of fluff that is the funny stuff/player cam analysis, but the wall of text in the middle of the video was actually a very solid insight into Eddy's mind during that event. It's similar to the Link gif that just got front page on the sub: it's one scenario for which a competitive player analyzes his thought process. That all went through Eddy's mind, and it's good to see that.

I know, I was being serious. Couldn't you tell?
No but rly though
4
u/Dapplegonger May 25 '15
Well first you called it a comedy video, and then you went on to describe it in an exaggerated manner

u/bunnymeninc Falcon May 25 '15
yeah my joke worked on a few levels
one was joking about the how this is the silliest analysis vid ever, even if it has its purpose
the other was making fun of how the only thing Luigi mains think about are misfires.
10
u/popmycherryyosh May 25 '15
Say what you want, but watching the Luigi mains is freaking amazing!

u/FullyTorqued May 25 '15
What do you think people would say?
1
May 26 '15
There are definitely some top tier mains who like to shit on everyone who doesn't main Fox, Falco, Marth, or Sheik.

Also, here's a link to the exact moment that the misfire happens (in case you wanted to see commentator reactions): https://youtu.be/WNr5Ts-oaj0?t=873

What he says he thought: All the stuff in the vid.
What he actually thought: Why not? YOLO SIDE+B FTW?!

Eddy Mex is a top Luigi player, and as a tournament Luigi, I'm gonna bet that "he felt it". You can only misfire on certain frames in the game. I bet he doesn't get the misfire if he tried when he first got to the spawn platform. But telling everyone that would ruin all our fun ( ͡°╭͜ʖ╮͡° )

u/TJ-Eddy May 26 '15
Well, lets say that the whistling was the motivation and the analysis only gave me more confidence in doing the side-B. During those seconds, it "felt" like I got little to lose and much more to gain.

u/DuXxX May 27 '15
Eddy, you're a fuckin' legend. Is there any match other than this one (that was recorded) that stands out in your mind as a memorable set?

I think more people should do stuff like this. There are quite a few videos of whole match analyses, but I think there would be a lot more just as valuable analyses of small moments like this. And we could hear from people like Eddy Mexico, who might not have enough time to analyze an entire match but certainly have the insight to do so.
