It's pretty clear that dash dancing isn't in the game. Despite the lack of such a movement option, how did you guys find the movement in smash 4. Is it like Brawl or more fluid and less restricted like melee? Do you think no dash dancing will hurt the game?

Dashing is really bad in the game. You can't crouch cancel or shield cancel the dash

It looks to me like Hbox was shield canceling in grand finals...

5

u/MrInfernow Hi Jun 11 '14

It looked to me that the shielding was out of the run (post-dash animation), but I'd have to rewatch

2

u/VRCkid Jun 11 '14

It looked like it but I think that might be force of habit. I'm not sure if he was actually canceling.

u/sylinmino Greninja (Ultimate) Jun 11 '14

He did connect a ton of grabs with it though.

u/kiddydong DonkeyKongLogo Jun 11 '14

And with the shittiest throws, fuck yeah

8

u/dkuo Jun 11 '14

Kirby's upthrow kills so well now though.

And yeah, he definitely was doing shield cancels after post-dash.

WHOAAAA are you saying you can't shield during the dash or just that shielding and releasing to slow to be usable? If you can't even shield while dashing, that is unacceptable.

Yeah, but Sakurai mentioned at the beginning of the tournament that the game is still a work-in-progress. Things may change before September 13th when it drops in Japan.

Aww, Japan gets it a month early? Sad face.

hey, at least we get to know all the characters a month early :)

u/iiRockpuppy Jun 11 '14

They'll probably get the whole roster unlocked within the first week it's released. My bros.

28

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '14

You mean the first day.

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '14

Crap you're right.

I got a WiikeyU pre-ordered just so I can play this game earlier, but I'd need a japanese WiiU... AAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

21

u/lukel1127 Jun 11 '14

Wait, what?? It's not a simultaneous release? Man, I was really hoping the game wouldn't be spoiled for me.

-22

u/canwegoback Jun 11 '14

Spoiler alert: the game is brawl 2.0

-3

u/mysticrudnin Jun 11 '14

good. single player brawl was pretty sweet and that's what the 3ds version is for me anyway.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '14

No, that isn't good. We want the game to be closer to chess, not checkers.

That said, canwegoback is being a little douchey by making such claims at this point.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '14

It's something that was taken out, I don't see it coming back in later.

1

u/ALittleFly Jun 11 '14

Yeah...with only a couple of months, I doubt we'll see anything involving key movement mechanics like that...

Arriving in Japan on Sept 11 for 1 year study exchange. Will purchase day 1 and report.

5

u/TLHM Mr Game and Watch (Ultimate) Jun 11 '14

Unless you're also getting a japanese 3DS region locking will probs prevent you from learning much.

1

u/dtadgh Jun 11 '14

Good thing I already have a Japanese 3DS then. ;)

2

u/TLHM Mr Game and Watch (Ultimate) Jun 11 '14

Awesome :D

6

u/ContemplativeOctopus Jun 11 '14

Wait, you can't shield stop during an initial dash? You've got to be kidding me.

4

u/1338h4x missingno. Jun 11 '14

Oh god, that's bad. That's really bad. Why the hell?

u/rideride Jun 11 '14

Hbox dash danced as kirby after KOing ZSS.

34

u/j00t Jun 11 '14

That technically is dash dancing, but the distance he showed is literally the farthest you can go. So essentially it's useless.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '14

Why does nobody seem to understand this? There have been like 50 threads about "ZOMG DASH DANCING CONFIRMED!!!" and then a gif or timestamped video of kirby running back in forth in place.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '14

Huh, I could've sworn I saw Zero Suit Samus briefly dashdance while she was waiting to Kirby to respawn in the grand finals.

21

u/Elbedhar Jun 11 '14

That kind of rapid dash dancing (like in Brawl) has virtually no value and isn't really what we are referring to. We're looking for long dash dances like in Melee that are actually an effective movement option.

-13

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '14

you mean the type that looks really stupid like the character is having a seizure? good riddance

7

u/olipei9008 Jun 11 '14

no, he means the exact opposite. it's the one where you can actually juke opponents out instead of just spazzing out and looking dumb

-8

u/D4N13LTHEM4N13L Jun 11 '14

No it's there, I saw Hbox dash dance in grand finals. Maybe it's too tight of a radius for it to be practical, but it's there, and there's no tripping.

10

u/Jamarac Jun 11 '14

I saw him try it more than once and he did the slow turn around not the dash dance. Tafo said the same thing in his miom article and he actually played it.
