6 - 12 months 9 mo old sleep trained baby hysterical for nap

Baby is 9 months old, sleep trained, 3/3.5/4. Up until yesterday went down for naps no problem, but today was HYSTERICAL for his nap. Fell asleep in my arms when soothing him which he hasn’t done in months.

We did CIO at 22 weeks, but I didn’t let him cry it out today as I was shocked and worried something was wrong since he hasn’t cried to sleep in months. He’s close to crawling and just started going from laying to sitting on his own.

What should I do?

I think it's hard to judge with only a sample size of 1. It could be a one-off. Or he might need a schedule tweak, be going through some separation anxiety, teething or unwell etc. I would try to keep your routines the same and see if it keeps happening.
