My one KDK fan just trucking along doing it's best for 27 years.
I need to give it a pet and a silent nod of affirmation for helping me survive Singapore's weather all this time!

I like KDK, they actually sells spare parts of their fan.

Straight up! I've bought the plastic band after realising that I could. Before that I've used like five clothes pegs to hold the front grill to the back π.
A little squirt of singer oil from time to time and it just. Keeps. Going.
Most durable appliance in my house.

Where does one buy the spare parts and who to contact
1
u/Gold-Mikeboy 28d ago
You can usually find spare parts at local hardware stores or online retailers
for specific contacts, try reaching out to service centers or manufacturers directly.

KDK now may not be the same as KDK in the past.....
But in the past, KDK is bombproof, you are taking care of it for the next generation.1

20+ years ago likely AC motor. Time to use climate voucher upgrade brushless DC motor versions, operating costs almost cut by half.

I find it a bit amusing when HDB and town council suggest how to save energy, they never mention changing to double-pane windows can save 30% of electricity bill.

Damn expensive when I looked into it for sound proofing

u/grown-ass-man Apr 27 '26
How expensive?

I just replaced all the windows in my 5rm HDB for close to 5k (this is with some upgrades), I can't imagine for double pane

It fluctuates between blistering heat and sudden downpours and it's awful when trying to recover from a cold
8
u/nextlevelunlocked Apr 27 '26
The rate this country is replacing trees with buildings is not helping either...

The humidity is no joke π This is exactly why wooden kitchen cabinets in SG are a nightmare β they absorb moisture and start warping after a few years. Aluminium doesn't have this problem at all. Slowly seeing more HDB homeowners switch for this reason.

Those r particle board la.

u/Mysterious-Half-4474 Apr 27 '26
SG humidity really destroys more stuff at home than people realize. Cabinets near wet areas, wardrobe backing, even laminate edges can start showing it after a few years.

u/Extension-Nose-8311 Apr 27 '26
My formal shoes didn't wear for 1-2 years also completely broke down due to the heat

u/Ill_Problem2875 Apr 27 '26
can consider getting a cheap dehumidifier from taobao. helps a fair bit in reducing the humidity in the house.

u/Z4ri Apr 27 '26
Coming out of an aircon room into the open air feels like Iβm an ice cream taken out of the freezer for 30 seconds.

As someone without an air con at home, I'm seriously deciding to purchase a dehumidifier for my bedroom- but idk what to get
12
u/Rayl24 East Side Best Side Apr 27 '26
You are gonna have to find one powerful enough to dehumidify the entire country unless you keep your windows and door closed with no a/c

A solution that works for me is to pull down the blinds and not let the sunlight in, then open up during the night.
I've got black out blinds so it's a little satisfying to feel them radiating heat at the end of the day. Like I've "beaten" the sun, idk, it's juvenile but I like it

The kicker is El Nino hasn't really started yet. And peak El Nino is slated at the later half of the year. At least for the past year we had heavy rain every once a while as a respite. There will be less rain when El Nino kicks in. Go away El Nino, you're not welcome.

u/AccidentSalt5005 Apr 27 '26
dude fr, i legit showered 4 times a day because of this, this is hellllll

u/KeythKatz East side best side Apr 27 '26
30C? Must be using Google Weather. It's been useless for the past year, every day it tells me it will be 27-29 degrees when it's already 31 on NEA and Windy.

Blackout curtains.
Most of the heat comes from the sun. You block it you don't need to turn the air-con until very high.
2
u/surfaceintegral Apr 27 '26
The predicted super El Nino this year hasn't even started yet. Get ready for actual hell starting from next month.

Only when I'm directly under the aircon in a mostly empty mrt carriage is it barely enough

The cooling duvet and pillow from Ikea were a worthwhile investment for me. Too hot really cannot sleep.

The worst is when it drizzles a little during sunny days, and super amplifies the humidity.
