Friend of the show What team was Saka talking about?

This genuinely perplexed me. I only heard the clip over the pod this morning but I'd be interested in seeing his face when he said it?

I'm 90% convinced he's talking about PSG. Leaving aside the 'revenge' angle from knocking Arsenal out last year, they are the team in Europe, with the most intimidating and damaging style of football. Surely Saka wants to beat the best?

It’s PSG yeah. Arsenal battered Bayern in October or November, you’re doing mental gymnastics to have an “owe them one” angle when that’s happened this season. PSG beat Arsenal home and away in the semi, & Donnarumma had two great games.

Arsenal also battered PSG in the group stage last year, so he must be aware that group stage form may not matter.

Very different circumstances, PSG were way off it last season they just about got into knock outs. Bayern finished second to Arsenal in the groups this year.

He was probably talking about PSG.

I think Saka was rushed back from injury for those games, and the team was going through a wider injury crisis. Maybe Saka feels like it would have been closer with a full squad.

As an Arsenal fan I would have wanted to beat Bayern more.

Yes Paris knocked Arsenal out last season.

But there's no team I associate more with late-wenger-stagnation than Bayern. The 10-2 still feels more prominent than last year.

And imo Arsenal played their best football this season against Bayern in the league phase. And ... being a bit more honest, I think Arsenal have a better chance against Bayern. But that's me not having a marginal-gains/win-at-all-costs mentality.

You'd imagine elite level athletes have the mindset of wanting to beat the best...so I think PSG

I, on the other hand, would rather just win against the easier opponent 😅 Which they may have considered Bayern given they beat them earlier in the year

PSG.

In the semis last season Arsenal ran up an xG of 5.11-3.08 against PSG which I imagine gives rise to the feelings in the Arsenal camp of them being the better team. Which I don’t agree with either, I think anyone watching those games would have seen a PSG team that was good value for their wins, but it was also an Arsenal team that started Trossard and Merino respectively at CF for those games.

So yeah should be a good battle this year.
