General Discussion This scene in the last episode felt like a callback to the very first scene of the pilot, as if Rick was emotionally at S1E1 again (while being Ted)
+ The drunk talking of the earlier seasons and the dripping alcohol out of his mouth again. After all the growth, defeating the nemesis, all the adventures, all the therapy, all the family development, he’s still sitting there carrying the same pain. They say it happens every season, yet this time it's even more depressing.
Even crashing through the garage roof was a callback.

I keep telling morons who think killing rick prime somehow resolved ricks emotions/arc in that regard that that is completely false and a complete misunderstanding of how psycology works.

oh i forgot I usually post that along with rick prime not really being all the way dead, which people really hate.

elaborate? i agree with your other points but i think it was portrayed like he actually did die and there was nothing else to indicate that he lived through what c137 did

ricks have been shown to survive in memories. through anything.
meta-narratively it ultimately happened off screen with no final body.

they acknowledged that ricks can survive through anything, and explicitly showed that evil morty fried his backups. meta-narratively it would be a real lame move if they revealed that "oops, evil morty forgot about one of those backups!" that's equivalent to if they revealed that the omega device missed a reality and diane is still alive, it undermines the whole point

YES. I noticed something like that but couldn't quite put my hand on it. A callback to S1. I saw it as well

You can see the time he turns into rick mentally somewhere around making his friends robot arms

Summer calling out the horrible dynamic really added to it, like they're still the same family but they have started to learn and grow

Yes, I’ve been thinking about this all day. I think it’s also a nod to the viewers who complain about wanting “classic Rick and Morty adventures” or complain that he’s “no longer Rick”.
The Rick that we grew to love was extremely depressed and drowning his woes in alcohol. He was in so much pain. Is this really what they (we) want for him?
