Most likely not rare. But.

Not rare, but I love these Dent titles. They did a nice job on them and they have a terrific backlist. They also hold up very well and a nice reading size.

More info on Everyman's Library: http://everymanslibrarycollecting.com/site_index.html This book is from the "flatback" era. Each section of the library (biography, classics, essays, etc.) had its own quote on the page facing the title. http://everymanslibrarycollecting.com/flatback.html Also, each section had a unique color. The quote on this title is Bacon explaining why his collection of essays was so popular. Modestly well-read people back in the day would have recognized it, I guess.

Beautiful title page. How does the rest look?

The text itself ain't half bad, either.

Not decorative, but a nice readable type face. Excellent books.

I don’t understand the Bacon quote and feel left out.

France is bacon? Couldn't be clearer.

The first edition is 1823, and it is one rare book.

Just one picture ? That's not fair.
