Search What are some movie characters which portray mental illness accurately?

I need to prepare a case study based on character from either a film or book. I would like to know some suggestions for a movie specifically, where the character is officially diagnosed and portrays a disorder within the DSM-5 accurately. No disorders related to drug abuse, addictions etc. Also, it would be preferable if we could gather information about the character such as family, background and health.

Thank you all very much for your replies, they were very useful!!

Search DSM-5 TR based movies recommendation to analyze

Hi. We're tasked to make a mental status examination about 5 characters. I like animations (especially disney movies, I find most comfort there lol). Can you recommend some movies/series that portray disorders very well? Much better if they're really diagnosed in the movie. Thanks.

Edit: thank u so much, everyone!

Search Good book recommendations for books on Narcissism?

Hello! I've been very interested in cluster B personality disorders for some time now due to how stigmatized and misunderstood they are, and was wondering if anyone would have any good book recommendations for books about narcissism? From the majority of what I've seen online, it's most books about recovering from narcissistic abuse/parents/etc. Obviously, I can imagine those books are very helpful for some people, but I am looking for a more objective or at the very least empathetic perspective. Thank you!

edit: just to be very clear -- I am NOT looking for books on subjects like surviving narcissistic abuse or growing up with narcissistic parents. I'm specifically looking for books to help me better understand narcissists as people and not immediately portray them all as abusers. I feel there is a profound lack of understanding and compassion for these people, and I just (maybe naively) want to better understand where narcissism comes from.

Search [IND] Anyone doing the "blended" BSc Psychology OP Jindal Global University via Coursera? Looking to connect with first batch students

Hi everyone, I am considering enrolling in the OP Jindal Global University blended BSc Psychology programme (October 2026 intake - third batch) via coursera.

Since it's a relatively new programme started October 2025, there aren't many reviews online yet. I wanted to reach out to anyone currently in the first or second batch to ask about:

  1. Quality of live classes and professor interaction
  2. How the Slack community actually works in practice
  3. Whether the degree is being taken seriously by employers or postgrad admissions
  4. If a masters degree abroad would be possible
  5. How is the student diversity from so far?
  6. Overall experience so far... Is it worth it?

Any honest feedback would be really appreciated before I commit. Thanks!

Search [USA] i’m in desperate need of help finding a free virtual course.

just before I actually start getting into what I’m trying to talk about I am going to let you know that I am using a text to speech because I can’t type so I’m sorry if the grammar is messed up and it’s hard to read (my first language isnt english either)

so, i’m a high school student. I’m looking for free virtual courses for psychology. I have found one website so far that actually works (go.view.usg.edu) it’s amazing i’ve used it since middle! Only flaw is that the course list doesn’t include psychology, which i’m really getting into at the moment because it’s just so intriguing, and its all that I’m interested in at the moment, I am looking for a free virtual course that accepts up to 3-4 branches of psychology courses per term but indispensably includes; behavioral, child and adolescence, and forensic.) the most prioritized psychology branches i’d want to study would be behavioral, as well as child and adolescence. I am a young high school student, I must note that, because I know certain virtual courses are 16+ but I am certainly under that so I am looking for an inclusive course that’s for high school students in 9th-12th, i’m not sure if this is an impossible question and if I will find an actual free virtual psychology course that accepts high school student students, and gives certifiable knowledge. this would really help because I need to keep my brain sharp in the two months break that I have, I will not let myself get slow over break, as well as I want to get a headstart compared to other students because I need to impress scholarship foundations, i have already taken some college classes for medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology but these are uncredited for, so I’m unsure if I can represent this in my scholarship application, either way I feel like you should be able to represent them because it shows responsibility and demonstrates self initiative. also i’d love if youd send me links resources or anything you can find that could help me figure this out. I could give my GPA, or any information needed. i’m scared to search without advice, or help, I don’t want to fall under a scam or some data broker. also, I forgot to mention the course doesn’t need to be a specific length, but it just has to teach me appropriately and everything necessary for comprehension.

TLDR;
i need free virtual courses for psychology, but must include branches; behavioral, child and adolescence, along with forensic psychology. I need the ability to take all three branches at the same time. I am a young high school student, I must note that because I know certain virtual courses are 16+ but I am under that age range,I am looking for a course that’s inclusive towards all high school students.

please send me links, credible resources, or anything you can find that could help me figure this out, i’m truly very lost, but have big plans regarding my future.

I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with this paper or could point me toward:

  • a summary or key findings

Any help or direction would be really appreciated!

Search Movie / Series recommendations for Abnormal Psychology character analysis (Mental Status Examination)

Hi everyone. I have a project in Abnormal Psychology where we need to analyze characters using the Mental Status Examination (MSE) framework.

For the project, we must select a movie or documentary and analyze at least five characters using the following MSE components: appearance, behavior, speech, mood and affect, thought process, thought content, perception, cognition, insight, and judgment.

The important part is that the film or series should not explicitly say that the characters have a specific psychological disorder. Instead, we are supposed to observe their behavior and interpret possible symptoms or psychological patterns ourselves.

Because of that, I am looking for films or series that:
• Have multiple well-developed characters (at least 5)
• Show clear psychological or behavioral dynamics
• Allow observation of social interaction, emotions, decision-making, or stress responses
• Do not directly reveal or diagnose mental disorders in the story

Genre does not matter (not horror pls). It can be drama, thriller, psychological, documentary, etc. Any country is fine as well.

If possible, recommendations for films or series that already feature several strong characters would be ideal, so we do not have to watch many different movies.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Search Psych grad schools for counselling/clinical psych

As broad as the question is, do you guys have any recommendations for schools which provide placements as part of training. Help with licensure and are strong on clinical training+research.

Also, how do you go about landing GA/RA positions to fund education?

And does it matter if the degree is from a state school or a private one?

Any help would HELP.

Ive been looking up schools and attending uni fairs but any resources would help, to get started and shortlisting schools. Even if it’s sharing where you’re studying at n how’s it like!

Thanks!

Search ISO practicum/internship sites for Bay Area

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in a Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) master’s program and will be starting practicum/internship soon. I’m based in the Bay Area (Santa Clara County) and wanted to ask if anyone has recommendations for good sites to apply to.

I’m open to working with different populations (individuals, teens, families, etc.), but I’m especially interested in gaining strong hands-on experience and good supervision. A supportive environment and learning opportunities are really important to me.

If you’ve had a good experience somewhere (community mental health, private practice, nonprofits, etc.), I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice on where to look—or even places to avoid.

Also, any general tips for applying or securing a placement would be super helpful!

Thanks in advance 😊

Search MSc Clinical psych student looking for short-term internship / exposure near Jayanagar, Bangalore (2 months)

Hi, I’m currently pursuing MSc Clinical Psychology and I’ll be staying in Bangalore (near Jayanagar) for around two months (June and July most probably), so I’m looking for any short-term internship, training, or clinical exposure opportunities (I need it for credits (TT) I’m completely new to Bangalore, don’t know Kannada yet, and I don’t really have people here who can guide me, so navigating this whole process has been a bit overwhelming. I also don’t have prior internship experience yet and I’m honestly not great at networking since I’m quite introverted, but I’m eager to learn and gain practical exposure in any setting related to mental health. If anyone knows of clinics, hospitals, NGOs, rehabilitation centers, research projects, or supervisors who take students for short-term observation or internships around Jayanagar or nearby areas and fine with Hindi and English, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Search CACREP for international students

Hi guys, hope yall are well.

So, need some detailed answers n help here.

I’m applying for the fall intake this year, want a career in mental health as a therapist/ counsellor. I believe getting into a PhD might be too competitive so not even trying n sticking to a masters.

For that, often in this sub people mention going for a program that is credited with CACREP, or schools that lead you to licensures.

But, what does that look like for international students? Would I be appearing for the licensure exams as well as an international student or holding a license after my degree? How are the work opportunities like for international students in the US?

And on that note, would you guys recommend good universities, so far, I’ve only checked Ualbany, Duquesne and St Cloud.

I need you guys to recommend affordable schools in states which are queer/poc friendly and liberal.

And how do people find GA/TA-ships to fund their education? How does that work.

Further, if there are non-US ppl students here, do recommend good psych programs from your countries too please!

Edit: I do not have a GRE, but a thesis, majored in psych, minored in Socio, have internships/jobs/ volunteering/sports experiences.

Search Help! I don't know how to use Google Scholar or PubMed!

I'm a first year psych student tasked with a several month long research essay and only given the options to use Google Scholar or PubMed. My question is, how do I even find anything on there? Every time I each something I get nothing even closely related to my answer, but if I use google, I get my answers instantly. I can only get abstracts from the other two. I'm sure this is just how the site works but I am losing my mind trying to find anything usable for my paper. Thank you in advance.

Search Does anyone know where to find studies on “risky” or “eccentric” human behavior? Preferably cross cultural

Not sure if I can post this here if not tell me. So I’m doing a paper on stereotypes, my professor approved the topic: American white people yk the crazy Christian’s, Karens, Florida man memes, and the gun loving country dude. It’s about personal stereotypes I did notice when I say “white people are crazy” I think of that specifically.

Anyways they asked to find studies on risky or eccentric behaviors across other cultures or communities to challenge that stereotype as a way to say this behavior isn’t just “American white people” it also applies to other cultures. I’ve been looking for a week😭 does anyone know of any studies at all or where to start? It’s due Saturday afternoon I’m genuinely going to die
