What was the first thing you felt or thought when you saw him again? Or rather, when you saw Kaniel Outis for the first time?

You know what would've made Prison break different and easier for Michael and Lincoln

if they had their heat and cold guns

Did fiorello know about the escape in season 1?

Post image

Just rewatching season 1, and fiorello was hovering around Michaels cell the entire time, with the toilet displaced, talk of escape, talk of killing the guard because of all he had seen..

Am I missing something?

SEASON 1 SPOILER! Rewatching Prison Break after many years: What made season 1 so exceptional?

I view season 1 of Prison Break as one of the best seasons of any show I have ever watched. With so many new media coming out all the time, I hardly ever look back to watch the things I enjoyed because I am more tempted to watch something new. Nevertheless, I turned to Prison Break for comfort now. It's a great joy and I am paying more attention to what made it so great.

Pacing: There are many high-quality shows which suffer from occassional moments of slow and tedious scenes. PB S1 though? Not really! The tempo this show sets from the very beginning is top tier. Even when the scene cuts to a storyline I am less interested in, it doesn't stay there long enough to bother me. This is not something that's easy to pull off but PB makes it seem easy. There are shows which I like but when I watch an episode for 45 minutes, I can feel the passage of time at the back of my mind. With PB S1 times flies and by the end of an episode, I am surprised it's already over.

The Cuts: This one goes in tandem with pacing. PB cuts between scenes quite often. This could be an issue because sometimes you need more time to introduce characters, plot hooks etc. Yet somehow, PB is not struggling with this at all. A new character comes in, they are there for 2 minutes and already make an impression. A new complication is introduced through 2 sentences and you don't need more, it's just enough to build the tension and the scene moves on. PB does this so seamlessly you don't need to think about it.

Music: In general, background music is an aspect of filmmaking which is easy to overlook. In the end, it is IN the background. But well placed soundtracks can trigger emotional response in us even before anything is happening on the screen. The main theme builds tension and hype every time you start a new episode. Everytime Strings Of Prisoners starts to play, you just feel the dread of what conflict might be brewing up in the prison. When Inking The Plan hits the scene, you know you are in for masterminding. Last but not least, T Bag's Coming For Dinner emphasizes the excellent performances of Robert Knepper. I could go on..

Characters & The Plot: Now to not be overly positive, I need to mention that PB definitely has some characters and plot points which are weaker, illogical or too convenient. But there aren't that many to be a bother OR the pacing and the cuts between scenes moves on from them before you start thinking about them too much (unless you are rewatching it with the intention to do so!). In general though, within the large set of characters and plot points, PB hits the nail on the head most of the time, especially in S1. Michael, T-Bag and Abruzzi are one of the best ones out there. Shoutout to Haywire and Warden Pope who are one of the standout side characters in my eyes.

The Banter: A smaller detail but damn, watching the prisoners trashtalk and banter is fun. The scenes where they dig the hole in the guard room are one my favourite ones. The trashtalk between T-Bag, Sucre, C-Note and Abruzzi is pure gold.

Can you think of anything else that made the show stand out above the rest?

The General and Scylla

Why on earth wouldn’t the General use company operatives to retrieve Scylla instead of recruiting linc, mahone, self and Gretchen in Miami, four people who will almost certainly scheme against him

Mahone be recruiting left & right, if only internal affairs & agent Wheeler knew.

Linc character development

I know Lincoln cops a lot of hate on here but I actually like him.

I’ve rewatched and it feels like he goes from a stupid albeit softly spoken character with a big heart to a dumb thug in season four. Is Dominic Purcell even playing the same character by this point or just an extension of himself? I read that in season two Linc doesn’t even fire a gun once.

Insignificant question: T-Bag "Debark v Disembark"

This is not significant in the slightest, but doing a rewatch and up to S04E16 at around the 15 minute mark, the group including T-Bag and Self are discussing the plan:

T-Bag: "Waiting for her boyfriend to debark."

D-Self: "Disembark."

One of T-Bag's key attributes is his language skills, especially synonyms. They highlighted it more in earlier seasons, but even season 4 he leans into it multiple times.

How does Bozo the Clown out-wordsmith T-Bag? If this an writer intentional choice, what would the thought process be?

Don Self.

This scene is great. Despite everything, I like Self's character. This specific moment, this scene, is very good.

The general shows his cruel side to demonstrate how far he's willing to go for Scylla.

And Self is the one who loses out. Hearing the gunshot over the phone is brutal, and when he jumps off the building it's insane. I don't know what they expected after losing Scylla and not getting it back. It was obvious something was going to happen. Seeing Self jump is amazing.

SEASON 3 Stupid question: did Gretchen do the things she did because it was her job, or because she enjoyed it?

Post image

Sorry my question is dumb. I’ve been wondering this for years because in season 3, she seemed to really enjoy playing mind games with Lincoln and LJ. You could chock it up that it was on the Company’s orders, but it looked like she was actually taking glee with constantly threatening murder.

She also seemed dead-set on getting the drop on Michael, but became genuinely pissed that he was always a step ahead of her.

SEASON 4 SPOILER! SPOILER Spoiler

I just watched the episode with Brad's death and I wanted to share some thoughts, it's the second time the show made me cry (first one being Franklin's hanging) and I was absolutely amazed by how the show made me sad for the death of the character I used to hate. At first I thought his death was kinda pointless but after chatting with my mother which I am watching the show with we interpreted his death as some kind of freedom. It was mentioned that his father died when he was young and that he was working in fox river since he was 18 which made him technically grow up alone, but after he bonded with the team he felt like family with them which resulted in his life finally being complete. Let's not forget he had attempted suicide in the second season.

Thanks for reading, I just wanted to share my feelings about this amazingly written character and express my interpretation.

I would love to know what you think.
