Discussion I found a bunch of vintage pokemon pins in my uncle storage unit

Back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, my uncle used to own a toy store. This week, my brother and I were going through the leftover stock that had been sitting in a storage unit, and we found these 1999 licensed Nintendo Pokémon pins. It seems they’re from a rare collection according to this page: https://pokemonpin.com/oversea-events/.

We took them home, but we’re not sure what to do with them. What do you think, guys?

Been trying to get my hands on a 1st edition charizard to add to my holo and shadowless collection. Saw this guy on eBay for the past week and ended up winning it. Thoughts?

Price was somewhat steep but I think for this I paid below market value. Total of 7 1999 charizards (4 holo, 2 shadowless, 1 1st edition) so far. Only have 1 psa 7 holo, 1 8.5 holo, and the rest are 8 and graded between Beckett and psa.

Discussion What do you do with your extra pokémon cards?

Hi Card Collectors!

I’m doing a study on Pokémon Bulk Cards and am looking to understand a collector’s thought process when trying to offload them. I’ve seen a few options out there (i.e. Sell bundles on marketplaces, donations, etc.) but I’m trying to determine at what point do the bulk cards begin becoming a problem for you.

Based on a Reddit Post Hunt, the second most common option for managing their own bulk was to organise and store the cards.

Knowing this made me wonder, what’s the breaking point to go out of your way to get rid of them? What might the friction be as to why one wouldn’t do it earlier if the end result is to get rid of them anyway?

FUN FACT: The most popular option was to donate them to clinical centres, libraries and schools for the kids to enjoy the hobby which was so wholesome to see!

Do you have a lot of bulk Pokémon cards? If so, I’ve made a small Google Form that focuses on the quantity of cards you have and how it may affect your card collecting experience.

Feel free to comment or DM me if you're interested in helping with the study and I can send you the Google Forms Link!

If it is easier for you, I’d love for you to simply leave a comment on how many cards you have what you do to offload your spare cards and why that method is effective for you 🙂 (bonus question: Is there a reason as to why you don't choose the other options?)

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Has this become the face of the scene?

47000 PSA10 graded copies, $3000, and most people still see it as undervalued. Represents both the $7-15 in print packs printed in the billions, and 10k+ PSA10 pop cards selling for thousands of dollars.

Aside from the lack of true scarcity and the pricetag, the card itself also represents the scene very well. It's based on a Van Gogh painting. Cards are constantly compared to fine arts. Fine arts are seen as hard assets for rich people, a "hobby" that is in reality just a business for some and a money laundering or tax avoidance scheme for others.

Van Gogh Pikachu isn't just the most valuable Pokémon card by market cap. Van Gogh Pikachu IS the current Pokémon card scene.

I remember pulling this Shining Mewtwo at the mall when I was 9, and not being over the moon about it - only because Mewtwo wasn’t my favorite. Little did I know it would one day become the most valuable card in my collection!

Discussion Grandma brought these over to show me, then lost them 😭

Post image

Still haunts me to this day… Two years ago my grandma in town visiting. Brought these with and asked if I had known anything about them. I was absolutely stunned. Decided it was best just to educate her and be honest with what she had. She took them with her when she went back home.. long story short she says they are lost somewhere in the clutter of her house and hasn’t been able to locate them since. Who knows what really happened but I wish I just bought them off her them 😭 (This was the only pic I snagged of them unfortunately)

Discussion Favorite Pokemon and why

Just wanted to know stories of how you came to your favorite Pokemon. It's always amazing just hearing stories from your childhood or even now if you're new to Pokemon. For example my favorite from childhood was Eevee.

As a kid in my hometown it was small and the way parents raised their kids well....it was a sexist and racist place. I remember in the playground these boys were playing the Pokemon card game and I loved how they were playing it so I asked my mom if I can get pokemon cards. She gladly let me because her only concern was for me to just be a kid and didn't care what I was into as long as it was safe. I remember the first pack that I opened and I didn't understand it as much but I think a friend of mine helped me out. My first Pokemon I Pulled was Eevee and I just fell in love with the character Bec of how cute Eevee was and was so amazed to learn about evaluations. My friend was so sweet and very excited when he found out that I was getting into it. He would help me play and I started to play with his friends. We had fun but sadly it didn't last. I kept getting ridiculed for something that boys were into and Mom was getting comments of how I shouldn't be playing with something for boys. I sadly later gave them to my friend because I was tired of getting ridiculed by my town. I think when I got older and moved away from that Toum I learned the place I went to didn't care what Age or sex you were and very excepting and I was able to recollect pokemon cards. I sadly forgot how to play the card game but now when I see my Eevee card I'm more happier. I've started to collect Eevee evolutions now days.

If you could have ANY card. The ultimate chase. Does not have to be because of monetary value. Could just be some super sick artwork. Curious!

Hi I collect and have been collecting from years and the last few years the hobby has become almost disturbing. I see kids like 13 posting a picture not to celebrate there pulls but asking for the price or complaining that they pulled a card with white corners so a 10 is impossible. It’s just sad and frustrating to see that it seems most people don’t even enjoy the hobby anymore it about how much money your collection is worth. It seems like in a sense it’s a dick measuring contest. Anyways here’s a picture of my PC binder that has some of my favorite pulls and cards.

Discussion How many of you work on master sets?

I see a lot of people collecting their favorite Pokemon, or doing a Pokédex binder, maybe the mitchi method (cool but not my vibe). I’m just curious how many of you actually work on complete sets or master sets and which ones have been your favorite? I have only completed stellar crown and paradox rift masters. But I’ve been working on Phantasmal, Perfect Order, and Journey Together. I’m about 80% done with all three master sets and will continue chaos rising as it becomes more available, but it’s very satisfying to see all of the packs I rip and sort out yo come together for a full collection.

It’s the CoroCoro Mew, fairly clean copy. I collect to collect and don’t send stuff in to get graded or sell. I’ve been told I should have picked it up, graded it and flipped it for easy money.

Would you guys have picked this up for this price? I would love to actually have this in my personal collection but I couldn’t justify dropping that much on a card right now.

Discussion Umbreon Collection

Hi there! Really want to start a single Pokemon collection and my all time favorite pokemon is Umbreon! I know this might be a little insecurity or something on my part but I get the feeling everyone and their mother likes Umbreon and has a collection of him and kind of want to do something more unique maybe. Anyone else have that feeling with their favorite pokemon as well or should I just send the collection?

Edit: After doing a more thorough look into how god expensive Umbreon is I might choose another one of my favorite mons. Leafeon, Flareon, Scizor, Dragonite!

Edit: I think I’ve decided I still plan to collect a lot of non TCG related Umbreon stuff but for the sake of my wallet I’m going to collect Scizors! Thank you all for the help and I hope to show you all my Scizor collection in the coming time

Discussion Pokemon cards went from playground flex to billion dollar business

I was scrolling the news this morning and saw the craziest stat like pokemon (and other trading cards) went from kid flex collectibles to straight up billion dollar machines for target and walmart like nearly 1 in 4 adults are buying pokemon cards now and only a quarter of them even play the game. The rest are just hoarding or collecting and even flipping like it’s wall street for cardboard. I had no clue this was happening right under my nose like the same binders we used to flex on the playground with are basically investment portfolios now. Lowkey blown away at how massive this got.
