Wilms tumour

We have a family friend who's 1 year old has just received the diagnosis of having a wilms tumour, she starts chemo this week and is getting the tumour removed next month, the prognosis seems good and they've caught it early. We live on the other side of the country and although this seems like it's all going well is there anything that I could send up to them to make the next few weeks or months abit more tolerable for them?

DoorDash or UberEats or other meal gift cards. Hospital food quality varies by location, but no matter what it gets expensive.

I would second this. And depending on where they are, uber or Lyft gift cards can be helpful (I’m in a city and don’t own a car. With an immunocompromised kid, public transportation was a no-go, and cab rides got expensive).

But beyond the monetary or physical help, please just check in on your friends. I lost almost all of my friends when my son was diagnosed because they just didn’t know how to handle the situation. They showed up at the hospital, gave us some things, said if we need anything we know they’re there got us, and then never checked in on us for over the entire course of treatment. I would have traded all the gestures for just someone to talk to and vent with through what is a very tough journey.

Hey, I also have Wilms Tumour. I'm 14 so I'm quite old to be having this type of cancer, but I wanted to share some advice to give to your family as someone who's been through this. Literally just had my operation yesterday. So Wilms Tumour is quite an aggressive cancer, but the good news is that it it's very responsive to chemotherapy. My Wilms was stage 4 as it had spread from my right kidney to my right lung, and even when we caught it late the prognosis was still very good, and the tumour repsended well to the chemo. I've just had the operation so obviously I feel pretty shit after but I've spoken to people with kids with wilms and they say their child was back to their normal self after operation recovery. Hopefully this gives your friends hope

Someone sent us a bunch of chicken bone broth which was really nice and thoughtful for everyone in the family actually.

Hi! Wilms survivor here! I would agree with the comments suggesting food, plus just being there for the family!
