Affordable barn hire?

I'm looking for somewhere to hire for a handfasting party next year, for max £1000. Also max 100 people so no need to be huge. All Google gives me is expensive wedding venues, but we are on a very tight budget and want to organise the details and food ourselves, and we are doing the legal bit separately so no need for a licenced wedding venue!

We are Oxford based so anywhere close ish would be good but near counties also considered! Does anyone know anywhere?

Pubs often have something like this (even in Abingdon, they have this "barn" out the back that is connected to the rest of the pub (The Crown and Thistle?). Although 100 people doesn't seem small to me, most barns I've attended weddings at are up to 80 people sitting. Generally look at pubs. I've been to a few events at pubs that have barns in the garden.

Thanks, will do! My only thoughts was that a pub might say they have to do the food catering which then gets expensive, although it would be handy to have a bar that people can get their own drinks at. And yeah I say 100 max but it will be less than that!

I know someone who held their wedding in the marquee at the Isis, they had their own caterer, there were hay bales outside to sit on, which is why I reminded me of a barn

Friends of mine are having a reception at ye olde swan near bampton, in their function room separate to the pub. Their number is also 100 people. Food catering isn't tied to the venue, nor are djs, entertainment etc. It's been under renovation recently but will be ready by the summer, if they're not already finished.

You can try the Stonehill Barn in Abingdon. I know it says wedding venue but get in touch and see what they say about rates. Lovely people who run it too!

Kennington village hall OX1 5PG. You can book by the hour, the main hall able to accommodate up to 200 people. £22 / hour week days and sundays, £36 / hour saturday.
