I can’t understand why this sentence is formulated this way:

Kjøkkenet øver dessuten en naturlig tiltrekning på barn

Why is the verb øve used here? I thought it meant to practice

Most of the time øve is used to mean practice, but it can be used differently. Here it's used to mean excert. It excerts an attractive influence. Utøve could also have been used here (I think).
