Ja "stort sett" er ganske vanlig å bruke, du kan også høre "for det meste" som basically betyr det samme.

Det blir stort sett pent vær i dag.
Det blir for det meste pent vær i dag.

Which means the weather will be mostly nice, but you can expect a few clouds throughout the day :)
