West Newport

Hello! I’m a recent female grad student looking to live in West Newport near Isabella street and was wondering if this area is a safe area to live in??

It seems ok but wanted to get input from people that live around there.

I’m a 26 year old woman who has owned a house very near there for ~4 years and absolutely love it! People on here tend to overstate the sketchiness of the area; I’ve found it to be very safe.

Thank you! Are you near Isabella street?

Im a 20 something woman and used to live by Isabella and honestly agree that the sketchiness is overstated. Yeah there can be a the occasional sketchy person but the neighbors are friendly and seem to keep an eye out. I moved for other reasons but the location is great to be close to things still. there’s also a really great coffee shop on 10th - collective espresso. Obviously keep an eye out as you would in any urban area but I felt pretty safe.

The further east you go in Newport the better off you are. West Newport has plenty of good people, but also plenty of really horrible shit heads live there too.

closer to southgate or on the other side of monmouth is your best bet! lots of great spots over here

You’re right, and they’re great if you have $700k! Just bought on York street for much less and it’s been lovely. Once young professionals figure out how convenient the location is and the bang for buck, west Newport will explode

Where are you finding places for $700?

$700,000 to buy a house in the east row. Some are $500,000 and some are over a million

This might be a weird comment and I’m not sure of the different areas because I’m recently new to the area as well but if you need a new friend I’m looking for some in the area 😂 29F!

The sketchiest parts are the bars around there but I think diamond Deb’s closed

I’m 37F and leave a few blocks away from Isabella, on York. I agree with what others are saying, the more east you go, the fancier the houses and the safer it feels. I walk with my dog and avoid certain parts of the west side, but for the most part I don’t feel unsafe.

Welcome to Newport girl! Isabella can be a little bit sketchy at times, but for the most part you’re gonna be good!

27F, previously lived in East Newport and been living in West Newport for a year now. While there are some characters in the area, I generally feel safe. As others said, practice basic personal safety! I would just a doorbell cam and/or camera facing the street (but I would suggest that anywhere.)
