Episode Discussion Naked and Afraid: Global Showdown Season 1 Episode 2 Running Diary!
Episode Name: Fire and Pain
What’s up, everybody! I hope your weekend went well and that you’re ready for two hours of sweaty, naked fun!
Welcome to the Naked and Afraid: Global Showdown Running Diary! Let’s get to it!
–I really hope this episode is good. We all need A Big Win.
–Day 2.
–Time to build a bridge.
–Frank and Teal are in third place. They get a fire starter and a bow. Not a bad deal.
–Teal goes hunting. Chances of success 38%.
–The animals are on the other side of the river. Chances of success drop to 0%.
–Let’s check in with Dan and Rachel.
–Nighttime.
– “WTF was that,” Dan asks as a large animal prowls outside their boma. What could it be?!
–Day 3.
–Dan and Rachel are in last place and only got a fire starter. Sucks to be them.
–Jeff and Kerra are chillin’ in (tied for) last place as well.
–Scroll time!
–The challenge is to build a torch. Seems simple enough, right?
–Two challenges: A torch and a bridge.
– “If you don’t play to win, don’t play at all!” –Pablo Escobar.
–Team Australia is ready to build their bridge. Let’s go!
–Stock footage of a monster crocodile. Nature you scary!
–Jeff put on some fat for this challenge. He knows what he’s doing.
–Matt knows how to build bridges. Remember that one he built on XL Louisiana?
–Gabby tells us that “people are going to be…surprised (by me).” I’m sure everyone knows you’re a capable human being, Gabby.
–Gabby decides to climb a tree. Watch out for rash on the thighs!
–She’s straddling the tree. That can’t feel good on the ol’ privates.
–Remember when Nathan climbed that tree? Good times.
–Now Matt is giving Gabby a piggyback.
–We finally get some time with team Mexico.
–The producers are treating Mexico and Brazil like the B Team.
–Frank and Teal make a torch.
–Flashback to when Teal had an attitude problem during The Apocalypse.
–A giraffe sighting!
–I love how the “river” is actually just a dirty ditch.
–Teal is pissed that Frank isn’t using all of the materials she accumulated for him but it sounds like Frank plans on using it for later torches. Not sure what the drama is here.
–We learn that Alexa enjoys taking instructions.
–Dan and Rachel finish their bridge.
–I was expecting more from everyone’s “bridges.”
–Team Brazil makes an appearance for .0005 seconds.
–Frank and Teal are back on track.
–Team Mexico is in the house. I forgot they were even on the show.
–Texas must complete their torch if they want to compete in the competition. Come on, Jeff. Hurry!
–Matt tells us that he outworks the world.
–Kerra feels like she and Jeff are letting down Texas.
–Matt and Jeff say hello to one another. They’re such good friends!
– “If you’re behind the leader, you’re going to be looking at the ass.” –Matt.
–I mean, technically that’s true.
–Alexa and Ky work well together. They will be hard to beat.
–Is Dan ignoring Rachel? Sure seems like it.
–We finally get Jeff’s trademark “This is what I live for!”
–What do you think they’re using these torches for? Burning down a village?
–Hey, it’s Team Brazil! What are they up to?
–Eating worms. Yum.
–And that’s enough screen time for Brazil, I guess.
–Nighttime.
–Ky and Alexa are tired. They worked hard.
–And we’re back with Team Brazil! Wow! Thanks, producers!
–Lots of creepy nighttime noises around their camp.
–Hyenas surround their camp. Watch out, Brazil.
–The hyenas are now bothering Ky and Alexa. Stupid hyenas.
–Ok, we get it. Lots of nature. Get on with it.
–Day 4.
–Torch challenge day!
–Marina of Brazil is tired. Rene is ready to go.
– “Let’s go “torch out” our competition.” I’ll let you guess who said that.
–Brazil and Mexico are at the bottom of the challenge. I give both teams a 5% chance of winning this competition.
–Torch challenge description: Lots of stuff will happen.
–Only five teams will move on to phase 2. Does that mean the other two teams are eliminated permanently?
–Rene lit that fire in .09 seconds!
–Team Mexico didn’t test their torch ahead of time. Trouble?
–Jeff and Kerra’s torch seems to be working well. Same with Frank and Teal’s.
–Here’s Dan talking about communication again. They’re setting up a real feud between him and Rachel.
–The editing makes it impossible to know who is in the lead, but I think it’s Matt and Gabby.
–Is Team Mexico last to light their torch? I think so. Disappointing. I like them and Brazil.
–Matt and Gabby finish first and are on to the deadfall trap challenge.
–Team Brazil is in trouble. Come on, guys! Let’s go!
–Team Australia lights their rope! Looks like Brazil and Mexico are out of this current challenge.
–Time for the deadfall trap challenge.
–Time for Dan to talk about communication again. They’re really hyping up this fight that seems inevitable now.
–Matt says some stuff.
–I’m not sure Dan was ever forced to do group projects in school.
–Does Jeff know what he’s doing? I’m not sure he knows what he’s doing.
–Rachel offers a solution, Dan doesn’t like the solution but ultimately decides to try her solution, and she declines the said solution. Sounds like marriage.
–Kerra looks like she’s about to lose her shit at Jeff.
–Frank and Teal finish their deadtrap first! Didn’t see that coming.
–Matt and Gabby finish second. Good job by them.
–Ky and Alexa finish third. No surprise there. They’re strong.
–Dan and Rachel finish fourth and hug it out.
–I guess that big fight between them isn’t going to happen.
–Jeff and Kerra finish last and get twenty points.
–Lots of good assets to choose from.
–I fear for Mexico and Brazil.
–Dan has a back injury. Not good. That’ll take you out faster than just about anything.
–Time to call the medic.
–And that concludes the episode.
–Will Dan be forced to med tap? We’ll find out next week.
These two hour episodes are really too long, even when the episode, like tonight’s, is good. They could have spent a little less time on, well, everything.
I was also really disappointed with the bridge challenge. I was hoping for a proper bridge. Maybe that would have taken too long though. Still, couldn’t the bridge challenge been a longer challenge, say, five days, worth more points, etc. I want a true bridge building competition!
Episode Grade: B+
What did everyone else think?
See you next week on the Naked and Afraid Running Diary!

I feel like this whole show is set up for Matt to win since he hasn’t won LOS yet. And they gave Jeff and Dan less knowledgeable partners than Gabby with Matt.
The ladies’ team might foil those plans though!

It’s hard to bet against Matt and Gabby.

Which makes me think there is a pride goeth before a fall effect going on and they'll be 2nd.

Anyone else kinda disapointed in the "Global" aspect here.... not a lot of variety....like how many ways could they have split up the US?? ?? What about, say....africans, asians, europeans, scandanvians....i could keep going and going...just a bunch of white people in the woods does not give me "Global" vibes at all....

Yeah, I don’t know what the thinking there was. Just call it “American Showdown” if they are going to have every team from the Americas.

it was a first time its not easy to set up this kind of show, also the is only 4 international version , Brazil 3 season since 2021-2024, Latam ( Latin America) for 3 season also since 2022-2025, France only 1 season it was 2018, Spain just had first season 2025, the show prob shoot last year on august or september, i dont think they have enough time to scout for Spain that was their first season and France was long time ago.

I came here just to read this again. It’s getting a little too predictable. I’m glad for Frank and Teal. I don’t think they get enough credit and I’m happy with the all girls team. Especially since Ky had to drop out of LOS. She and Gabby are both bada$$. I’m sure that’s why they gave Matt Gabby for a teammate. I’m thinking they’ll win. The bridge challenge was pathetic! And I’m seeing Dan throw a fit in the future with his partner. I really don’t remember her

Dan didn’t win so now he has a back injury, more whiny baby time. Gonna blame that on his partner too. Sorry, just can’t stand him

The show is getting too predictable or my writing is getting too predictable? lol. Because if it's the writing, then I value that input because I want to keep people interested by giving fresh viewpoints.

I am a fan from the first show. Unfortunately, the show has evolved into a predictable shell of its former self. Its campy and predictable. The show is kind of getting the ’jumping the shark’ feeling. The moment when Teal feigned to be actively hunting but was deterred by the barely wet ’river’ left me shaking my head. She then continues to lobby for the bridge across those torrential waters. Its a bit much. Texas isnt a country. This isnt a ‘global’ competition in any sense of the word. Walmart at 9pm on a Tuesday is more global….I will watch it, but it isn't close to the quality of XL.
Your running diary polishes an otherwise gloomy turd…🤠👍

Has Jeff's partner Kerra done anything yet? She seems to sit a lot.

She was standing when she kept pointing out how Jeff kept messing the trap base up. It did look rather complicated and I keep trying to follow how this dang thing worked. Terra just seemed to keep bitching to Jeff, who deserved it.
I would give a couple of points for the squash-squishing drama, made the trap look more interesting.

I haven't seen her do a lick of work just mouthing off while Jeff does all the work.

Great summary SpiderGhost01
I'd give it a B or B-. It felt like a setup episode for future editing spins with medical issues, personality conflicts and arguments, failure of partners and the basics that N&A runs on. Sort of a housekeeping episode. No real drama or insights. The bridge building was pathetic.
I'm still confused about when the elimination-risk people actually get eliminated. In the past it was when you failed a task, but now it's points?

I have watched every iteration of Naked & Afraid over the years. Never missed an epi of any show but I pulled the plug on this show about halfway into this epi. There is nothing compelling about this global showdown. The whole thing feels pointless. Any person with a little bit of ingenuity can lay some sticks across a 10-foot-wide stream to build a "bridge". No special survival or Bushcraft skills are required. If this is the level of the challenges that they are now creating then they have officially run out of ideas for this franchise.

Well, imho, Gabby climbing up that tree and likely getting va jay jay burn was at least crouch cringy. I’d never do that naked. Yikes!!!!

So Matt is pretty much calling himself an ass? lol “If you’re behind the leader, you’re going to be looking at the ass.” –Matt. Matt sort of reminds me of Trump, nobody is like me, I'm the best etc etc. Oh please. Matt is the president and vice of his own fan clubs lol

I thought the challenge tonight had to end with the traps set but Dan and the Australia teams triggered their traps as they walked away yet all the other teams took time to be sure the were set?

Stupid episode tbh Imo at least I may be done

No, you must come back for more! If for no other reason than you can use my column comment section to complain. This is a safe space for hatin'.

I hate how Mexico and Brazil seem to be treated like second-rate competitors.
5
u/lilfoota 5d ago
Because they fail to make Bridge and Torch. They dont have a good strategies, either language barrier.

Yeah, if you are not one of the several Team USA, you might as well forget getting a good edit.

Love Sundays for NAA! Dan doesnt seem to into this, plus he already won before. Maybe he will tap for his back...and def Mexico and Brazil are rarely seen. I honestly really want Jeff to win this!

u/Busy-Song407 6d ago
I sense that production wants us to know some stuff about Dan and it isn't very flattering.
Does not work well with others.

u/RevolutionaryCat2275 5d ago
I agree, I noticed this a few challenges ago. I used to really like Dan. Remember how they showed him hogging so much food and honey!?? Lol
4
u/Busy-Song407 5d ago
Yeah. I'll bet production has a good idea how he doesn't share well or work well with others. Likely why he is paired with relatively unknown partner like Rachel.

Viva Mexico, Cabarones. I looked up Cabarones(spelling?) means bastards. While I like her enthusiasm is that really appropriate for an opening line?

The USA teams have multiple experience in LOS. Makes sense they would cope with the system better. At least no one has been hit in the head building a structure or practically unconscious from heat exhaustion, or nearly blinded by sap, all on previous LOS.
Teams Mexico and Brasil def need more air time.
Hyenas so far are running the show. PSR 6.8.
The bridge building baffled me. Fell a few logs, cross the treacherous creek. Riveting. Im not really sure what survival skill this is. I got up to make a sandwich so perhaps I missed some compelling video??
Jeff and Dan both need to listen to their partners. Teamwork guys.
Well, I do want to see what happens next week so show is succeeding there. My viewing PSR fell to 3.4 during the sandwich making, but rose to 4.1 during my continuous viewing of the last half hour.
