Are the Mexico and Brazil teams just filler?
11
u/StellarSloth 7d ago
Seems like that is what the producers intend. They barely show them doing anything.

u/saludypaz 8d ago edited 8d ago
It is implied that they must face each other in an elimination challenge, but both teams are shown in the preview much farther along in the challenge, in the marshes and on the beach.

u/Busy-Song407 8d ago
Yes, I noticed Brazil and Mexico in the Marshes and Brazil at the beach (At least I think it was the beach, could have been a sandbank by a big river.)

Lmao the bridge building was so dumb. Literally showed a low part of the ‘river’ next to where Dan was building his bridge that was much easier/safer to cross than these shit stick bridges they threw up. I get that they have to do bushcraft skills to have a show but when you see a shallow, less than a foot of water at a part of the creek, the whole ‘you gotta make a bridge to save yourself from crocs’ is just stupid. Just get to the part where Matt/ Frank/ Ky battle it out. I hate to see the direction these spinoffs are going. Stick with the XLs or do a crossover with Alone already.

u/Busy-Song407 7d ago
The water in that "river" was so shallow in some places that all you really needed to do was put a few rocks in as stepstones.
The only decent bridge I saw was by Team Eastern US where at least most of the wood appeared to be above the water if you were walking on the bridge, plus it had handholds.
So are the groups who did not build bridges prohibited from just wading across those little creek-like areas to hunt for game?

u/TheWeirdIntern 7d ago
That stream was fairly narrow, and I realize that the hype about crocs there is probably simply to justify the challenge of building a bridge. It's TV after all. But to suggest that this stream is too small to hide a croc is dead wrong. It's certainly big enough to hide a croc, and Nile crocs are nasty.
In a past life as a journalist, I interviewed survivors of croc attacks in Zimbabwe and Zambia, and they lost limbs to crocs hiding in astonishingly small bits of water. One fisherman I talked to lost half his right leg when he drunkenly took a shortcut and was stepping across what he thought was a harmless puddle near Lake Kariba.
The stream in this clip is about the same size as the one in Global Showdown, and the crocs weren't playing.

Dan cheating again

u/beerjeepsdogs 6d ago
The way he swatted the rock off the rope with the torch instead of waiting for the fire to break it off -_-

u/J_Jax 8d ago
Dan is being such a douche.

It’s ok that Matt & Waz were teaching Dan stuff on his early challenges, but not ok that Rachel doesn’t know how to make that specific trap? Dan is such a loser

u/ohryan2379 8d ago
Dan might be popular on this sub, but I find him quite insufferable.
15
u/GroundbreakingTap24 8d ago
Pompously insufferable even.

u/taukimada 7d ago
i'd rather have jeff as a partner

u/Hot_Rice_2952 7d ago
I've always liked Jeff. I never took his bellowing as anything serious. He has always been having fun. Has his partner done anything?
1
u/Time_Somewhere4240 3d ago
Wow really wtf😮
3
u/taukimada 2d ago
because jeff might be an ass.. but he's all about his teamate
dan is about dan.. he knows all and nobody can tell him different.. and if you don't know as much.. you're not worth his time

Damn, Gabby, that was nice!

u/GroundbreakingTap24 8d ago
Gabby is fearless. Smooth execution of the Melissa/Jake back slide maneuver from the tree.

I can’t stand Dan. He literally ran after that girl to take the torch from her because he wanted to carry it so bad he couldn’t control himself 😭 the way he was running after her trying to grab it and yelling “I GOT IT! I GOT IT!” And she literally ALREADY has it. It was like watching elementary school basketball
ETA: And then in the next scene we can see that he did in fact successfully steal it from her 🙄

u/Fluid_Leg 4d ago
Agreed. Can’t stand his whiny bitchiness. All the me me me, just rubs me wrong. Always finds a way to cheat

Welcome to Episode 2 of Naked Big Brother- Survivor....
PS: These confessionals remind me of cheesy reality shows, overacted for dramatic effect.

Thinking about bridge building, Matt and his team built a bridge/pier in the La swamps as I recall. Any other bridge episodes?
8
u/Ralph--Hinkley Neighbors Not Roommates 8d ago
Didn't they build a bridge in the following XL Season 8?
Happy Cake Day, BTW.

Surprise, surprise....Jeff is a shitty teammate and not that great at basic survival skills.

This competition format was boring the first time and now is completely dead.
Create fire, rush to next location, obtain the same items (hides/bows/fishing gear/better knife), make a trap, make a ladder, make a bridge, make a raft, follow trails, make a boma, follow the map, boil water.
They had a format in XL that is actually about surviving and creates iconic moments like don’t eat the fruit. Could have trotted out 10 seasons of that without the gimmicks and people would actually be entertained
6
u/Acceptable_Club_5350 6d ago
My question is they are so focused on the challenges no one is fishing/hunting how are they eating? It says food is not being provided
3
u/lilfoota 5d ago
the show has been on for long time, have you not heard that they edit stuff, the survivor say they eat more than what shown.
2
u/Busy-Song407 4d ago edited 1d ago
Oh you're right.
They will have to abandon these bomas when they move to marshes, then get some points for making a shelter. They all have firestarters now, so we shouldn't have to endure an hour of watching bow drill fire attempts. So it will be some other housekeeping chore.
Then the remainers will move to the beach/coast and start it all over again.
2
u/SpaceYetu531 5h ago
That and the fact its all timed... which has nothing to do with survival. How quickly you make a shit trap/bridge isn't important. Making a not shit reliable trap/bridge is the skill that matters.
1
u/dudbloke 1h ago
Yes the rushing gets me as well. Even the parts where they are sprinting around barefoot to get wood or whatever else they are sprinting for. It’s a goofy looking contrast to the survival staple advice of needing to be smart with energy and conserve it.

u/Practical_Junket_464 8d ago
Jesus , this editing changes from one team to another every 30 seconds.

I’m watching episode one and am so bummed that Jeff is on. I just have gotten so I can’t stomach him. And his mouth.

Ky & Alexa, isn't the torch supposed to be eight feet?

u/saludypaz 8d ago
Did they ever say how long it had to burn? They seemed to decide themselves how long was enough.

u/Shadowlab72 7d ago
For those of you that have Max on prime there are no commercials at all. Just a heads up in case you didn't know.
5
u/saludypaz 8d ago
We are led to believe that Dan will be a medical tap, but if so it will not be soon as the preview shows him competing in future challenges and with a smoked rib cage from a large animal in their camp. Neither his team nor Team Texas, however, are shown any farther along than their present environment--nowhere in the marshes or on the beach--and some of the aerial scenes are so expansive as to show the entire cast.
8
u/Busy-Song407 7d ago
I hope Team South makes farther. I appreciated how Teal pointed out that Frank does things at his own pace, deliberately and succeeds. It's easier to watch than the goofy frenzy of Dan or Jeff. I would not be very sad if Team Texas or Team Pacific get eliminated.
I do wonder why they had that little flashback to Teal in Apocalypse looking very spaced out and acting very strangely.
3
u/yourthighnessx 6d ago
I think they put it in just to remind everyone she had a hard time on LOS and to highlight the upcoming tension her and Frank had for some of the episode. I think they did her a little dirty with it cause her and Frank made up so fast but it might be foreshadowing for later
1
u/Busy-Song407 4d ago
Yeah, could be something like Team South fails in the final challenge because of differences in how the partners approach the task.
It might be really obvious, but these challenges are being set up as team cooperation challenges. If you and your partner work together like a well-oiled machine, you will succeed. If you have having communication difficulties or it is not a partnership - just one guy running the show and treating his partner as a silent assistant ( ie: Team Pacific) then you will not succeed.

u/lilfoota 5d ago
I love how no sabotage and feeding people, this is the true competition, its about skill, while people say it set up for Matt, its only episode 2, and look at how at LOS Matt didnt win and the underdog like Waz and Dan won.
6
u/ohryan2379 8d ago
They are hardly showing the Brazilian and Mexican trams. Probabaly because they don't offer the same petty, fake drama and BS as the US teams.
12
u/GroundbreakingTap24 8d ago
Neither of those teams attempted the bridge challenge so no activity to draw screen time.
2
u/Time_Somewhere4240 3d ago
At age 8 my siblings and I built a bridge across a larger stream than they did. 🤔 And it was a suspension bridge 🤣
2
u/Time_Somewhere4240 3d ago
Maybe because the US has the most ratings? Don't know or maybe the us and Australia are better than them.

u/GroundbreakingTap24 8d ago
Teal and Frank, friction has started.
Requirement for a torch 🔥, will they be moving at night or early morning?
2
u/Ralph--Hinkley Neighbors Not Roommates 8d ago
Why did they burn their torch?
2
u/GroundbreakingTap24 8d ago
Testing the burn?

u/Ralph--Hinkley Neighbors Not Roommates 8d ago
They have bows, but no quiver and arrows?
4
u/saludypaz 8d ago
They are awarded both together, but there is an upcoming challenge in which they must make handmade bows.

u/Unsettled_addendum 8d ago
Why are you so determined to tell people what's going to happen in the future? I've seen two comments on this thread so far from you, and both are technically spoilers of some sort.
Just let us watch and find out ourselves please.

Where can I watch this? I have been checking discovery but nothing yet.

I had to get Philo. What worked for everyone else didn’t work for me because I use streaming and not cable.

Question? Why were the competitors using red handled fire starters like I use in my yard??
1
u/YeOverThinker 21h ago
with the final challenge rewards, I don't understand why Australia only got 1 pick of the rewards as 3rd place in the challenge (and 2nd place all day) when all other completing teams (USA of course) received 2 picks?
What did I miss?
