Discussion I’m thinking about quitting music

I’m thinking about quitting music bc I’m not qualified my voice is too deep for the style I like and anytime I try to make a song that’s not a replica of an artist I like or that’s not a ballad I always just sound like some cringey 2010s nonsense I started out on bandlab and type beats with different influences than I do now my influences went from lil tecca and juice world to twenty one pilots and Olivia Rodrigo I love music so much, without music i wouldn’t be here prolly lol but I want to be that for someone else I hate just sitting from the sidelines watching people live my dream i want to be that person on stage and i want to be to someone else what twenty one pilots is to me but it’s so hard i have only one song im making im satisfied with and every time i try to record it’s always “one of those days” for my voice if I don’t make it im gonna be stuck to a 9-5 and I can’t live that way idk why im making this post i guess just to see if anyone else out there feels the same or encouragement idk but I need an answer

Do you want to make music or do you want to be famous? Those are not the same thing.

Then just keep making music.

You’re still probably gonna end up in the cubicle though. Most of us do.

That’s the longest sentence I’ve ever seen

Don’t give up, ever, because music is all about longevity

Also stop being lazy and start using punctuation, it may change your life!

If you really had a passion for music, you would just do it. Music is hard. Singing is hard. Writing is hard. Everything worth doing is hard. Have you put in your 10,000 hours? If not, keep working. Nothing comes easy.

You're trying too hard bro. It's called playing music because it's fun. You got to play and make what you've got work, not force it to be something it's not while worrying about who's listening. Might reach a few people, might reach millions, but if you're doing it with the goal of being some kind of phenomenon, you're either Kanye level crazy and delusionally confident enough to pull it off, or you're doing it wrong. Make music for yourself and see who shows up.

Basic grammar and punctuation to make this readable:

I’m thinking about quitting music bc I’m not qualified. My voice is too deep for the style I like and anytime I try to make a song that’s not a replica of an artist I like, or that’s not a ballad, I always just sound like some cringey 2010s nonsense.

I started out on BandLab and type beats with different influences than I do now. My influences went from Lil Tecca and Juice World to Twenty One Pilots and Olivia Rodrigo.

I love music so much. Without music I wouldn’t be here prolly, lol. But I want to be that for someone else. I hate just sitting from the sidelines watching people live my dream. I want to be that person on stage and I want to be to someone else what Twenty One Pilots is to me but it’s so hard.

I have only one song I'm making I'm satisfied with and every time I try to record it’s always “one of those days” for my voice. If I don’t make it I'm gonna be stuck to a 9-5 and I can’t live that way.

Idk why I'm making this post, I guess just to see if anyone else out there feels the same or encouragement, idk but I need an answer.

Hang in there, and make music for yourself.

Then you might need to adjust your style!! If your voice doesn't fit the exact style you want, maybe that style doesn't suit it.

There are so many genres and ideas you can test out. You can "tweak" the style you love with by merging a completely different style/genre that suits lower voices like your own!

If your voice doesn't suit cookie-cutter styles, then YOU GOTTA THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!

Experiment, try different things, see what happens. Don't box yourself in if the box is not you-shaped

Hey fellow twenty one pilots fans here who also wants what you want!

I want to be able to make beautiful and meaningful music like that, something that could really help someone. And I've been helped by artists who weren't famous or well known also, so I know it's possible even if you're not famous.

twenty one pilots are pretty much on top of the music industry. I've decided for myself that to reach their level of success would be a highly unrealistic goal. What they have is very rare and very not normal.

I hope you find your way through this rut friend. If you keep doing music remember it doesn't have to be perfect and you don't have to pop out famous. Just do it for the enjoyment of music and the love of learning more about it. If you keep going for the love of it, you may get better at making music without overthinking it.

If you decide to quit music, remember that it doesn't mean you "weren't good enough." Try not to compare yourself to the professionals, because it'll make you miserable.

Ecoute ton cœur, si il te dis de continuer dans le son, fonce.. encore faut-il arriver a l'entendre, car le mental prends 99.9% d'espace ^^ ce qui genere ce genre de questionnements....

The reason you don't sound like your favorite artist has nothing to do with talent, it's mostly the fact that they have thousands of dollars in equipment and people with decades of experience in the craft.

I completely disagree with this. Some of the most impactful records ever made - especially in the last 20 years - were made by young people with very little experience and modest equipment.

In fact, I believe when a lot of artists start having access to mega-studios and super-producers is when they start to produce some of their shittiest work.

Passion + Limitations = Creativity

Yeah this isn't the answer. There are bedroom producers creating hits out there. Anyone can record these days, you don't need thousands of dollars of equipment. This is a lame take.

I guarantee you don't sound like your favorite artist lol, downvote me all you want.

I'm not trying to sound like my favorite artist, I'm trying to sound like me. And nowhere did I say I was trying to sound like anyone. I guess you can't read. There are plenty of hit records over the past couple decades that were recorded in bedrooms for next to nothing.

Didn't ask what you were trying to sound like. I simply stated you don't sound like your favorite artist.
