I've heard this from some coworkers I have had, but when I think about some new people that I have trained, I really wish they would have retained at least a little about what they have been taught.
Granted this new person I've been training has been in the game a little longer than me, but in a MUCH smaller lab.
They definitely need a touch up on real life and maybe more retraining from day shift lol
They think they know what they're sending out, but when I review their stuff, especially in hematology, its wrong.
How do you propose going about a partner like that, where management thinks they're good to go, and they say they're good to go, but they're obviously not.???

That’s hard to say… Normally that is what continuing education and competencies are for. To not only review knowledge, but also to keep up with what’s new in our field. But credits are easy to get, and sufficient retraining may depend on management. Keeping up with education is up to the person themself.
How much different experience you have does play a big factor in how much you remember.. but in the clinical lab I think it’s dangerous to be too confident. Especially if you’re not too familiar with something. Glad you’re double checking their work while they’re still new.
To be honest, I don’t know much about how different places decide on retraining. Have you tried having someone else, maybe a supervisor, review their work too?
Probably not an answer you’re looking for. I rambled a bit, my bad. But those are my thoughts :(
And sorry if my comment came off wrong. I meant they no longer have to think about taking the exam again.
