Clearing the Docket with Heated Rivalry Author Rachel Reid

https://youtu.be/Mc17pjbyNN4?si=VBGFYPIn7SxtdBwj

Fun episode, and so cool to see Jesse and the Judge in the same room! I didn't think I'd have any interest in "Heated Rivalry," but the hype got to me and I finally watched it and absolutely loved it.

Though I'm a little disappointed that John Hodgman is no longer referring to his daughter (who is a whole human being in her whole right) as Hodgmina. I will always think of her that way.

I do also miss hearing “Hodgmina” and “Hodgmanillo.”

I love and feel seen by all of her takes regarding The Baby Sitter’s Club. For anyone who feels similarly, I humbly recommend a non-MaxFun podcast named The Baby Sitters Club Club. They are done making episodes because they covered all the books, but it is a great podcast for BSC fans. And on that podcast they developed quite a bit of lore about the ghostwriters…and now I’m super intrigued that John knew some of them.

“Responsibility porn” is so great.

I'm so excited to listen to this episode! I've been a fan of Rachel's since I was in middle school and she had a comic book blog. There's lots of good humor in the Game Changers series and her old comic book podcast was pretty funny, too, so she's a great fit for JJHO.

Always love talk about the PWHL! Right now is the best time to get into women’s hockey (besides yesterday!) Four new teams are coming to the league next year, Detroit, San Jose, Hamilton (Ontario) & Vegas. They be joining Seattle & Vancouver who joined last year and the original teams, Boston, Montreal, Minnesota, Ontario, NYC, & Ottawa.

Since there is a huge influx of new fans, commentators & the league make sure to explain a lot more nuance than you see in NHL commentary. Overall vibes at the game are so far above and beyond other sporting events for me.

This season just wrapped up (congratulations to Montreal) but last season all the games could be streamed on YouTube in the US, hopefully that continues!

If you’re unsure what team to follow, may I suggest the Seattle Torrent. Bottom of the league last season (their very first season as a team), so there is only one direction to go and you can’t be accused of bandwagoning!

This was a great episode that I never saw coming. Loved it! I think Rachel should be a repeat guest for docket clears on book club and genre/reading disputes. I loved how light hearted and open she was towards discussing the disdain her genre is sadly so often met with. She had a great energy.

Could anyone tell me the book she left the title unsaid to avoid spoilers? The one where the romance isn’t between the characters you expect? That made me so curious.

I'd love to hear Judge Hodgman's take on the similarity between the Boston Fleet logo and the Hartford Whalers logo.

Decent ep. Still not really sure why Rachel was there besides to advertise her stuff, but she hung in there.

I don't understand... what *should* guests be doing? I don't know anything about her or Heated Rivalry but the whole ep they all walked a nice line between discussing the cases and talking about her and her work

Why do you think literally anyone guests on a podcast?

On this podcast, it’s usually because they’ve had a robust career and the hosts are already fans. This one was different, no need to get emotional about folks noticing.

Where did anyone "get emotional"?

..... I think your first sentence still applies to this guest and this episode. Just because it's new to you does not mean it's any less robust.

Maybe. I liked it anyways, just felt somewhat abnormal. Sorry I said it poorly

No need to apologize 🙂
