This Day in Kings’ History (2014): Alec Martinez eliminates the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 7
On June 1, 2014, the Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-4, in Game 7 of the Western Conference Final. Alec Martinez scored the game-winning goal in overtime, and the Kings became the first team in NHL playoff history to win three Game 7s on the road.

Chicago in 2010, 2013, 2015 - and Kings in 2012 and 2014…. Those were some dominant years for those teams !!!

I dont agree with puck luck, but a lot of those goals took fortuitous bounces towards players in the RIGHT place

turns out it’s extremely challenging to be in the right place at the right time

There’s definitely luck. That doesn’t mean there isn’t skill involved. Most of the time to get a lucky bounce you have to do hundreds of things correct. It’s not like they are shooting from the center line and an alien is curving the puck

Three game 7 wins on the road. That was so awesome, but very nerve-wracking, to watch!

I remember being a kid and my parents trying to get me to go to bed because I had school the next morning (they aren’t into hockey). So glad little me insisted I stay up.

I remember this game and this day so well. I had to be at an event I couldn’t miss. I recorded the game and went on radio silence with my phone. Warned everyone around me not to say a word.
Got home and watched the game alone. I even remember the beer I was drinking. It was Saint Archer Pale Ale. Spent most of the game standing because my anxiety wouldn’t let me sit.
What a series, what a playoff run. I don’t think I’ll ever see another playoff run like that by any team as long as I live.

I straight up hated those Blackhawks teams, but god did I respect them. They were so good and we had to fight for every win against them

Greatest playoff series I’ve witnessed in over 40 years watching the game.
