Which UFAs we should sign?

So who would you like to see in Kings next season?

I'd say Boone Jenner, Kasperi Kapanen and Brent Burns. Or do offer sheet to Trevor Zegras.

What do you mean you don’t want to some how get older and slower on the back end?

The Kings cannot offer sheet Zegras, unless they want to give him $11.9M+ AAV. They do not have their 2027 3rd round pick, which is required for all offer sheet compensation tiers between ~$4.7M & $11.9M.

As a ducks fan who got this on their algorithm, Zegras also apparently has seasonal depression and doesn’t like SoCal. Bro ain’t coming back to CA in any capacity imo

Like reverse of the norm SADD? From the lack of temperature ranges? I know it can go both ways.

I’m assuming yes! He mentioned that California lacking seasons did it for him. I think he grew up in NY so he missed having a true winter. That being said I think Philly seems to be working out for him

People mock it but it's a very real thing. I miss winter every year.

No way the Flyers don't lock down Zegras.

No one. Either trade for a top 6 center, or trade away pieces to get picks for next years draft.

Hell maybe even move up in this years draft but only top 5. This team ain’t taking down the Avs, Oilers, Wild, Knights, Stars, or sadly the Ducks at this point.

Time to go in either direction of stacking up or moving on. Preferably moving on, especially from Luc.

With the number 2 pick the Sharks are gonna be tough next year too.

We shouldn’t be getting UFAs at all. Trade good players that would benefit a younger up and coming team (e.g. Foegle to Ottawa) for assets. And if they’re really desperate to not pay 2026 UFA prices, maybe they’ll give up a random prospect they’re not really interested in or someone that’s on the younger side. Trade vets for younger pieces that are in a logjam situation with a team that’s getting impatient and/or cap strapped. No UFAs bc they’re all old and we have enough of the type of guys available on our team already.

Signing UFAs doesn’t have to be bad. We were able to get a free 2nd just from getting Perry as a UFA

Yeah UFA signings don’t have to be bad, but I think I have some FA trauma so I’m very weary about it lol. Also, I don’t think there’s too many free agents that are available that can help this team become better. I think we can get better fits for the roster through trades of some of our vet dmen (if we trade them to up and coming teams that just want a 3rd pair dman with playoff experience/cup pedigree for a short period of time on a cheaper contract than what may be signed during this years free agency). You’d be trading for prospects who played a couple nhl games or are ready to do so next season and hope they hit. But we can’t keep 3 bottom pair dmen on the team so just getting them moved is good for us.

Getting them moved unfortunately seems impossible to me unless we retain(which I’m fine with) or package with something bigger. I just don’t see them being capable of making actual smart trades without ruining our future even more

Honestly I think they just need to trade them to teams that desperately need vet players. The most we’ll get back is a player that’s the lowest in their prospect pool in a position that they have an abundance of. I don’t really care bc we just need to change up the roster so we don’t run it back. I’m also saying this not expecting this team to be that good so I just want to see new (and preferably younger) faces and I’ll be happy.

Agreed, I’m all for the team getting younger and letting the kids play. Is it likely though? I personally don’t see it right now with this organization

I’m going to take Holland’s talk about wanting new d personnel and wanting to think about youth, speed, and scoring serious. I think he does think that’s important, but I do not think he knows how to properly execute it. I’d rather him trade old guys for young underperformers bc who cares? Just don’t run back the oldest team in the league. If we get current RFAs bc teams don’t have cap space and prioritize other guys over them, cool. Idc if we’re a less defensive team and even miss the playoffs (I want another center anyway and there’s a ton next draft). I just want this iteration of the kings to be in the past and want a team with no baggage coming into next season…if that makes sense lol

I am in total agreeance with you and really do hope he believes in that. One of the painful things for me is that last year I believe we were the youngest team in the playoffs, now look at us. But yeah to me getting younger and less defensive even if we miss the playoffs is the way. Even if they’re in the playoff race like this year come next trade deadline I’d love for them to sell big and look to the future. Just gotta wait and see though

There’s another e in there?? I have been spelling his name wrong for like 2 years…

None. Blow it up and sell

Boone Jenner would be nice as a 2 or 3 C on a team that has a #1 center but we don’t and he is always hurt anyways

I'd rather bring back Kuzmenko.

The Kings need high end talent. That's not available in UFA right now. I'd rather the team buy-low on young players squeezed out of contending rosters and change-of-scenery types, especially centers.

I'd rather shed a few veterans. They have young defensemen, especially left shot, that can compete for spots. There are a ton of inexpensive bottom-six styled players playing in the AHL. Move a few of those players for whatever you can get just to open up the roster spot and give a younger player a chance to infused the team with talent and energy.

If the team is serious about the possibility of McDavid in 2 years, Holland will stay away from any older UFA’s! My thoughts are build the defense around Clarke find a team willing to take Ceci and Dumo or buy them out! Draft at least 2 heavy stay at home guys and 2 puck moving defensema! I like Nico Hischier as our 2C however it seems he is going to get the contract he is looking for with NJ! Fiala and Kempe will be only 31 and QB will be 25!
