Discussion [ALL] True Colors is overhated!
i LOVE true colors! i don’t get how it’s so hated. well i do! but the reasons are just not that great in my opinion. like how some people don’t enjoy it because it doesn’t include max or chloe. but steph from the first games is literally there. and if you play the mini episode of steph, you can talk to mikey about the storm in arcadia bay (if you choose that you took that path). also it gives an insight into how steph is feeling about the storm. and another reason people hate it is because they say it has no “replay value” and i just don’t agree. yeah, people want a game with a story that’s so good that they want to replay it and i agree the game is full of filler. but i honestly really enjoy the filler. the LARP episode is one of my favorites but i can see why people don’t like it because it is a bit of millennial cringe. i’m gen z but i still found it really enjoyable! and about the story, the way they took out gabe was brilliant in my opinion. you only see him for a day so it was unexpected that he ended up dying in the first episode. you only see him for one episode but i just love his character! he has so much charisma and he’s very lovable so when he died, it was so unexpected and so sad to me. side note: i hate how people treat charlotte and ethan. yeah ethan is a kid so people get annoyed with how he’s handling gabe’s death, but i think people forget that he’s kind of the reason that alex and everyone else went looking for him which resulted in gabe dying. also he’s a child! he’s supposed to have complex emotions and feelings towards the situation. it must weigh heavy on someone for blaming yourself for a loved one’s death, especially a young child! the charlotte hate really bothers me especially during her anger scene. at that point, she was hit with hush money from typhon and had complex feelings towards whether or not she should take it. she’s thinking about the future if you choose to take it. she’d rather think about ethan than some shady company that could probably shut her up for good financially (if we assume she would speak out and they sue her to pennies). and she had super dark thoughts and felt like ethan was to blame. she lost an amazing guy in such a horrible way. i honestly think the hate also has to do with the fact that people stereotype her because of her race. they think she’s being aggressive and over the top when they should be leading with empathy to her situation. she’s not aggressive for snapping on alex. alex essentially invaded her privacy and thought she was helping. her being gabe’s sister just made it worse because she reminds charlotte of gabe. also the fact that alex wasn’t really thinking about charlotte’s pain and more so of herself (she was thinking how she could take away her pain rather than letting charlotte feel these emotions, which i think is a little selfish. i still love alex though!)

I wouldn't say people HATE True Colors. It's pretty hard to hate a game that's so warm and fuzzy feeling. But many people(myself included) agree that TC is where the drop in quality for the franchise really began, at least compared to the first three games.
While it is nice as a comfort game, and I love a lot of things about it, it's readily apparent that it was deliberately made to appeal to the people who didn't like LIS 2 for being so dark and having a different tone from the first two games. It was meant to be a simple, easy-going, and safe LIS game that didn't really do anything crazy with its story or characters. The big problem being that this mentality of appealing to the toxic side of the LIS fanbase dictated ALL future games after LIS 2.
So while I like TC and even love it in some areas, it did start the trend of LIS becoming safe and fluffy(despite being about adults now instead of teens), and it only got worse with DE and RE. The creative passion for storytelling is almost completely gone now, all because Square Enix became more concerned with appealing to the group of fans who only want LIS to be ONE THING and never anything different.

I'm only replying to the title 'cause that wall of text hurts my eyes, but is it overhated? I never see that much hate about it. I think it's a perfectly fine game, I enjoyed it.
