For All Mankind Pattern

I have been watching For All Mankind on Apple TV and this sweater came up in an episode. I have tried an image search as well as looking on Ravelry and Etsy for cable and lace pullovers but I’m struggling to find something similar. Anyone have any suggestions cause I’m in love haha!

I’d highly recommend browsing some vintage patterns rather than modern ones! 80s magazines are full of similar sweaters. I find lots of good ones at my local thrift store, but if you don’t have access to vintage mags some of the older companies (eg. Drops) have their full archive online. You can do a Rav search and sort by publication date, then go to the last page of search results and browse upwards, to look at the oldest patterns first. 

I can’t remember what episode this is to get a different angle, but from memory I think it was a v-neck sweater worn backwards? Or somehow a low back design. here is a vintage Drops pattern with a similar construction and open back, in a plain stockinette. I’d probably use something like this as a base, and add some cable/lace charts to it…

Omg I think that could work great. I actually went back to the episode and took a shot of the back earlier too and it looks just like it. Just needs the texture.

Ohhh you’re a legend! I really wanted to see the back again but I couldn’t remember what season this even was…I think this was my favourite outfit from the show!

Yeah I would Frankenstein 2 or more sweater patterns together to make this. You definitely want an 80s / early 90s era pattern for the base construction - seamed, drop shoulder, batwing sleeves - because you don’t really get many modern designs like this now that everyone knits in the round. And then just pick some lace and cable panels you like from other patterns and lay them out to fit the stitch count. 

But also if you have a bit of time to spend trawling through 80s pattern archives, I reckon you might find something that’s pretty close overall without needing to modify! The vast majority of knitting patterns from that era have a really similar cut/construction, and lace/cable patterns were super popular.  

Edit: you can also filter to a specific publication era on Rav, if you go to “more search options” at the bottom of the filters. Eg. this is a search for womens pullovers published between 1980-95 that are available online. You can get more specific with the filters, but a lot of the older patterns are often not tagged well/correctly (because they are usually entered into the database by random people, not the original designer or publisher) so I find it’s best to do a broader search and then just browse through. Sorry for the long ass post I’m a vintage sweater fiend!!!
