Is anyone else already tired of the parade 🤣

Before anyone says, I KNOW Arsenal are allowed their day. Just need to rant to anyone else who’s gets it - I live on Holloway Road and people have been out since 8:30 with air horns and flares it is WILD 😂

I don't mind but it does piss me off that they leave their rubbish everywhere. Holloway Road was a joke on Monday morning. Celebrate by all means but have some respect for the local community.

I totally agree, but it doesn't help that the council haven't provided additional bins. I'm quite far from the stadium, in Canonbury, and even here's there's a lot more rubbish around than usual.

u/smooth-as-mud 3d ago

Around the assembly hall they seem to have actively removed the ones that are usually there, maybe for security or maybe because they figured they would just overflow in half an hour anyway, but it seems like a silly decision to me

2

u/Certainlynotagoose 3d ago

They’ve actually removed a bunch of bins from round H&I station. I’m guessing to make it easier for people to move around…

1

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago

We have the Alwyne which is almost like a mini stadium recently

1

u/faith_plus_one 3d ago

I saw the queue yesterday at 10 am 😅

2

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago

Same but at 8.30 😂

3

u/jamescairns2 3d ago

I didn't see a single bin today, I think the council probably just accepts that they will need to clean up and plans accordingly.

8

u/Longjumping-Ebb-125 3d ago

About 50 supporters are staying after tonight to clean up.

-7

u/smooth-as-mud 3d ago

Wow, 50, that will surely make all the difference in the world!

6

u/Longjumping-Ebb-125 3d ago

Is it not better than 0? We don’t even live here but are out for the community

-8

u/smooth-as-mud 3d ago

I mean it’s the definition of a meaningless gesture, it’s nice to say you did it but it’s not really changing anything

4

u/edmedmoped 3d ago

Living up to your username brother!

1

u/smooth-as-mud 3d ago

Mate have you been out there, 50 people walking around cleaning up after might as well be zero

-1

u/edmedmoped 3d ago

I pay my council tax and I pay my season ticket

0

u/smooth-as-mud 3d ago

Great, I guess, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s significantly more than a 50-volunteer cleanup effort needed out there, it’s a 9km route that’s not even ten people per kilometre.

-1

u/Phoneix_Rising 2d ago

You can always make it 51 pal.

3

u/smooth-as-mud 2d ago

My contribution was not throwing any rubbish on the street in the first place like a normal functioning member of society

I’m an Arsenal fan but as someone who lives on Holloway those fucking vuvuzelas are getting on my nerves.

Love the chanting and general vibes though!

Imagine if they'd won last night

17

u/Next-Let5265 3d ago

Honestly can you imagine, would be 10x worse and have gone on all last night 😭

5

u/mclrd83 3d ago

I had a neighbour setting off fireworks even though they lost. Maybe they're a Spurs fan...

2

u/bdiggitty 3d ago

Might need to move for next year!

1

u/Curious_scientist420 3d ago

If you’ve a good location, put the house on air BnB for a ridiculous amount and go on holiday somewhere sunny

18

u/AndyKWHau 3d ago

I wouldn’t mind so much if it had been better organised. I spoke to multiple stewards and even policemen about how to get out of the parade loop and got different answers from each one, ranging from “you’re trapped in here now til 8pm” which seemed ridiculous (and turned out not to be true) to “I don’t know, it keeps changing”.

2

u/Agitated_Parsnip_178 3d ago

Hardly surprising. It's a moveable feast thats being reactively managed and isn't typical of large public events.

u/tonimutiny 3d ago edited 3d ago

Even Upper Holloway to Archway is pretty dense.

Seen a few outside Aldi doors before 11, like the toys in Toy Story.

12

u/imnotavampire24 3d ago

I’m happy for the team and for the fans and yes like you said they’re allowed their day. I live on Cally Road so it aint gonna be a quiet evening.

Got stopped by some lads on the bike ride home last night who thought it was a great idea to run out in the middle of the road and blow their horn in my face. Decided against cycling to work this morning, most of my route would’ve been blocked anyway. Yesterday was already cursed enough lol. Curious what Holloway Road will look like tomorrow morning..

16

u/davidmurr4y 3d ago

dreading how much of a disaster Archway is going to be tonight after coming back from Mighty Hoopla hahaha

A total clash of vibes

8

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago

Give me a hoopla parade any day

2

u/Kaurblimey 3d ago

Now there’s an idea…

4

u/davidmurr4y 3d ago

Whole load of gooners either way ayyyy

3

u/CleanEnd5930 3d ago

Lol, I’d be welcoming one kind with open arms 😜

2

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago

I think that’s just pride 😂

2

u/No_Veterinarian_3843 3d ago

just cycled up tufnell park road on my way to mighty hoopla from the oden and know it’s going to be absolute carnage when i get home later🤣

22

u/Flower18681 3d ago

Now we know how Notting Hill residents feel 🙈

1

u/DownToFuck1 2d ago

At least this rarely happens in Islington, first time in 22 years. Notting Hill guys gotta deal with Carni every year.

6

u/blobblobblob178 3d ago

I’m just above Liverpool Road so I can hear noise in the distance and it’s not too bad BUT the helicopters are driving me up the bend

1

u/just_da5e 3d ago

Yep. 100%

20

u/smooth-as-mud 3d ago edited 3d ago

not yet but I will be at 11pm when I'm trying to wind down and feel relaxed for work tomorrow and it's still raging out there. Go absolutely mental all day long and have a great time but I wish people would pack it up at a reasonable hour. It was gone midnight last night by the time people were finally settling down from the PSG game. I live on a side street and I'm not looking to get a smack in the face for asking a group of coked up drunk lads to find a different secluded area to do their super subtle key bumps in.

Edit: alright 6pm and I’m tired of it now

5

u/Active-Republic3104 3d ago

Staying near essex rd and it has been noisy as well

5

u/Certainlynotagoose 3d ago

What annoys me the most is that they’ve had the barriers up since Wednesday.
And they did a shit job of it too, blocking more than half of what was already a narrow pavement 4 days in advance and making the rest of us live with it is annoying.

That said, if it’s once every 20 years I don’t mind that much.

11

u/CuttleMcClam 3d ago

It's a horrible day to have ears in Islington

3

u/LumpyShock9656 3d ago

I'm tired boss

11

u/bananabraine 3d ago

It would be great if it was a pick up your own trash situation. One can dream.

12

u/LogicalReasoning1 3d ago

In fairness that’s very much a UK problem in general rather than a footy fan problem - I wish people had the respect here that they do in places like Japan

4

u/Big-Needleworker-546 3d ago

Would be even better if a team of 100 odd street cleaners can earn a days overtime cleaning up the mess so they can feed their family or pay their rent. Arsenal fans doing job creation for the local community

-2

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Or we could get the jobless to do it and earn their keep maybe?

1

u/Big-Needleworker-546 3d ago

If you give jobless people jobs then they are no longer be jobless I don’t understand your point

-3

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Precisely that. They are earning their keep rather than getting free handouts. Even just temporary.

5

u/Big-Needleworker-546 3d ago

I hope one day you experience hard times and need help and then hopefully your horrible attitude would change

-4

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Oh shut up you pretentious twat. People need help. People who make a living on benefits? Nah. That needs to stop. Thankfully when Labour are booted out next election radical change will take place.

1

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

And again, why does needing help mean you can’t work for that help?

3

u/Big-Needleworker-546 3d ago

There are currently 1.8 million people unemployed in the UK. Are you really that thick that you think there are 1.8 million jobs just waiting for them? The vast majority of people on benefits would love to have a job. The majority also do have jobs that don’t pay enough so they still qualify for benefits.

-1

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Jesus wept. You really can’t read between the lines, can you? Who said all 1.8 million are complete layabouts?

5

u/Comprehensive-Job-77 3d ago

i live right outside the stadium. they started at 6am. i thought id slept in. checked the time. 6am.

7

u/wyrdyr 3d ago

You and me both. Two weeks of this. They need to fuck off back to their villages, honestly

6

u/Kaurblimey 3d ago

It’s lovely for the area, I’m a United fan but I love Islington so I’m happy.

But please stop with the broken glass everywhere because I have to cycle to work tomorrow.

1

u/Next-Let5265 3d ago

Yeah deffo loving the energy and the good vibes but it’s just chaos 🤣🤣

3

u/lbuttigieg 3d ago

What time does it go on till?

3

u/bfm211 3d ago

They estimate the parade to finish around 4pm, and they're hoping to open roads around 8pm (though I wouldn't be surprised if this was optimistic).

How long the crowds stick around causing chaos is another matter.

-2

u/Electrical-Honeydew5 3d ago

Think they’ll pack it in early given they’re still crying from last night

2

u/MapDiscombobulated1 3d ago

It's surprisingly quiet at the moment considering I'm so close to a corner of the route but I don't expect that to last much longer - celebrating is great, just don't go out of your way to keep people that have work tomorrow awake after midnight please.

2

u/sicksadworld0 3d ago

Everyone is on a mission to get hit with a lime bike

3

u/rollo_read 3d ago

Its ok, they'll all be back on the trains up north soon.

3

u/Pumpkin_Empanada_ 3d ago

The fumes from the smoke grenades are what are really bothering me.

I didn't realize that would be a thing, and it's really hurting my sinuses.

5

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Don’t worry. They won’t win anything else of significance for another 20 years most likely so you’re all good.

4

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago

Yep, I had to walk along the barrier for a long time just to find an opening to cross the rd to get to Gail’s for my oat flat white this morning 😂 I usually just cross the rd cant be having this! 😆

2

u/mclrd83 3d ago

I had to buy instant from the corner shop cos of the parade. Totally get your pain!

3

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago

My condolences

-2

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago edited 3d ago

A problem exclusive to the islingtonians. I can only imagine the middle class lime bike riding brats crying because they couldn’t get their organic poached egg on toast with mushed up kiwi or whatever it is you have.

-1

u/Ecstatic_Couple6435 3d ago edited 3d ago

Mushed up KALE and poached chia seed weird 231, we went off kiwi last year

0

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Ahh that’ll be it.

1

u/sophiebell9 3d ago

Arsenal fans are such losers paying £80 on jerseys to advertise a gulf state airline get real

3

u/tokyowatchguy 3d ago

Its actually like £120.00.

2

u/bimboera 3d ago

i don’t see why there needs to be a parade which is a huge inconvenience to the locals and the business owners etc. why could they not have hosted an event in the stadium or a park etc to celebrate without disrupting everyone else’s lives? i’m saying this as i live by crouch hill but still affected by it. the local pub drunks for one thing. the helicopter and flares above are preventing my baby from sleeping. kids are back to school from half term tomorrow and could have their sleep disrupted by the people continuing with celebrations when parade gone. but people don’t see that they just think should lighten up or say it’s only one day or a few hours…

2

u/rollo_read 3d ago

I mean they get NHC every year which has the same sentiment.

3

u/deadendfriends10 3d ago edited 2d ago

With the greatest respect, you live down the road from one of the biggest football teams in the world, like come on what do you expect. It’s like complaining about the noise of a music venue when you live next door

2

u/bimboera 3d ago

actually i used to live three streets down from the emirates and never complained because it was expected. i now live nearly two miles from it and shouldn’t be expected to tolerate the noise pollution because it simply should not be in my area.

4

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Unfortunately football always gets a free pass in this country to disrupt as much people as possible. Anything else it wouldn’t be tolerated.

3

u/bimboera 3d ago

this is what i’m saying, there was a helicopter above my flat for nearly two hours and now people are blowing off fog horns etc but this never happens when it’s the tennis, rugby, cricket or golf. football fans think they have a free pass to be antisocial and intrusive and will shame people who disagree just because most of it is jubilant. aside from the mass anger driven crimes..

0

u/edmedmoped 3d ago

You have fundamentally misunderstood how big the Arsenal are

0

u/Harry_monk 3d ago

Oh bore off. There isnt a ground big enough in the world for an event like this.

1

u/bimboera 3d ago

why do football fans specifically have to demonstrate antisocial behaviour to celebrate? i’m not speaking on people enjoying themselves that is fine. i’m mad about noise pollution from ambulances, police cars, the police helicopter above my flat for 5 hours, the rubbish everywhere, maybe if they were civilised i wouldn’t care so much lmao

1

u/MeeMop21 3d ago

How much piss do you think that there will be in the streets??

1

u/Independent-Middle22 3d ago

Not to mention men peeing everywhere!

1

u/Due-Meet6230 3d ago

Join in?

1

u/West_Juggernaut_2610 1d ago

If you are not born and bred Islington /north London sit this one out - you’ll never understand

2

u/wyrdyr 3d ago

No, fuck Arsenal, and their supporters. This has been two weeks of hell

1

u/rollo_read 3d ago

Chaos at train stations as all the north london hardcove exit the city for the south coast and northern regions. Its absolutely feral out there.

-1

u/Invanabloom 3d ago

It’s part of city life

-3

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Wtf is it just me or has 5g completed floooped? Slower than dial up. I assume it’s due to the crazy amount of people that have flooded into islingtonia. Go home. Or at least go to the parade and actually watch it! Not through your damn phone screens

4

u/Waste_Room7248 3d ago

What a strange parochial attitude. You live in one of the largest cities in Europe. People will visit and - occasionally - use their phones

-5

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

I’m not talking about London in general. I’m talking about Islington and the sheer amount that have flooded the streets. Maybe engage your brain before trying to be a smart arse?

6

u/Waste_Room7248 3d ago

Where do you think Islington is?

0

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Fuck me. You really are a thick one, huh? Read it. Slowly. Islington in general does not get this many people on a daily basis hence why things are struggling! I’m not talking about the rest of London as the rest of London right now is comparatively dead.

3

u/Waste_Room7248 3d ago

Haha - yes I have to admit I’m not sufficiently intelligent to feel the need to put it my user name (but then I’m not sufficiently weird either etc). Anyway, I look forward to the border crossings to stop the hordes from, shudder, Camden and Hackney getting into our beloved Islington and stealing our 5g

-3

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Thicker than a Boxing Day turd, aren’t ya?

1

u/red-cat1988 3d ago

Chill out.

2

u/rollo_read 3d ago

The network falls over at 5pm at any train station on a weekday, had no chance today.

0

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

I mean true but tbf at least here it’s usually fine all day. But my god it’s been awful.

1

u/rollo_read 3d ago

Alas everyone competing for the same towers never ends well.

-13

u/Great_Comparison462 3d ago

Stop moaning

-13

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 3d ago

Jeez, noise from horns, chanting, rubbish left behind, normal life will continue tomorrow try not to whinge in the meantime, it's a celebration, We've waited 22 years your pain will ease soon

-1

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Hopefully it’s another 20 plus years. Bang average team acting like they’ve won the champions league for the first time. Ooops

1

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 3d ago

How bad are the teams that were below us if we were bang average?

0

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

Pretty bad too. Spurs didn’t show up. Neither did Utd until carrick came along. Chelsea and Liverpool? Please. City were on the fence. So many “big” teams took a season off. Yet still you had to rely on city to fuck up last minute to win the title. It’s not as impressive as you think.

0

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 3d ago

Seriously I'm happy with your defence, so it was all down to everyone having an off day and Arsenal were the best of a shit show? 🤣

0

u/Intelligent_Weird231 3d ago

I’ll give you that. Essentially if the other teams were still actually decent Arsenal would probably be in their natural spot of 4th.

1

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 3d ago

I applaud you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤣

-3

u/Electrical-Honeydew5 3d ago

Champions of Europe, you’ll never sing that

1

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 3d ago

One day, hopefully

-10

u/PointandStare 3d ago

And that's when Timmy realised he was in fact ... old.
