New Hardware Back in the Mini Club 🙂‍↕️✏️📱 (Mini 7)

Heya! Finally back in the mini club after quite a long hiatus! Bought a new Mini 7 256GB in Blue for $568 out the door with AppleCare+ for two years. The last iPad mini I had was a Mini 2, but I also had the first gen mini (which still works and pictured here!)

I’ve been wanting a smaller iPad device for a while to compliment my M1 iPad Pro 12.9” so I could have something more portable on the go to bring everywhere, mainly for regular tablet things, but also importantly, photo editing on the go. I currently have an iPhone 16 Pro Max, but even with the large screen, the aspect ratio makes it difficult to edit while on the move and it tends to get hot quickly and thermal throttles as a result.

Figured the iPad mini would be a good compromise for a device larger than a phone, but smaller than a typical iPad, plus with pencil support it just made sense.

The mini is a delight to use, I’ve been really enjoying the Apple Pencil Pro too, especially the haptics in apps like procreate, it’s just 👌. I also happened to get it for a pretty good deal through Amazon for $69 through resale (serial numbers matched and I was able to add it to my FindMy and update purchase date).

If I had any complaints, obvious being screen, but it’s not as bad as people online would say. Sure it’s LCD and 60Hz, but the quality is still pretty good. Would love to see at least 120hz or the OLED in a new model, but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me here. Plus I would expect there to be a major price increase for OLED lol.

Also the speakers are surprisingly quieter than my 16PM, but fuller at least. Guessing it might be a compromise of the thinner enclosure.

Overall though, I’ve been really enjoying the mini 7. It fits into a space that something like a foldable would, but it’s cheaper, probably way less fragile, and has proper pencil support.

All the photos here were taken on my Canon R8 with a RF 24-105 f/4L lens. Imported into iPad mini and edited on device using Lightroom mobile and posted using my mini too! Full workflow device 😉 hope you enjoy!

New Hardware Finally! iPad Mini A17 Pro

Finally pulled the trigger on the iPad mini.

I was hesitant to buy as I feared it would collect dust in a drawer. Turns out I pick it up more than my phone and laptop.

Only downside for me is the lack of ProMotion. Huge downgrade from iPhone and Macbook Pro displays. The form factor makes up for it though.

New Hardware Finally Upgraded

Finally went and upgraded my trusty iPad mini 5 . Picked up space grey 256gb WiFi yesterday . Im super impressed at the new form factor and how blazing fast this thing is. I will say my mini 5 made it hard to justify since it was still so good! But with os 26 coming (and yes I know mini 5 will get the support of 26) I wanted something that was more ready to handle the upgrade. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase!

New Hardware Nearly perfect (Realy need that full screen without black-bars.)

I’m really impressed with what this little device can do. From handling my daily work tasks (for more demanding ones like rendering video material, I still rely on my Mac) to listening to music and reading books in the evening, it’s been a joy to use. Ever since I added Paperlike, I’ve been enjoying the stylus even more. It’s truly an excellent machine. The only downside for now is that it doesn’t support true fullscreen, but I hope they enable it in future updates or on the next model—since I don’t want to switch to a larger format.

New Hardware The ultimate setup for my use case

After many different setups and bags I finally found a really comfortable and cosy setup for my iPad mini. Great for my job where I do Remote Desktop to my windows PC to run proprietary applications and also great for media consumption. Super portable and fun. I love it!

- Some cheap pu leather sling bag I bought the brand is axle but I think it’s just a cheap Chinese rebrand.

- iPad mini 6 64GB WiFi

- ESR folio case

- Apple Pencil 2nd gen

- cheap Bluetooth removable magnetic keyboard that came with some other case I bought.

- Baseus tri-connect mouse

Sorry that I don’t really have shopping links to any of these things but it’s just a combination of stuff I’ve found and made it work for me.

I just got this iPad mini for just 240$ off Facebook marketplace! At first I thought it was a scam so I was being very cautious. But when we met up he seemed like a chill guy! He let me check there was no iCloud or anything. He even included a case and an Apple braided cable and brick. Let me know how much you guys paid for your iPads or any good deals you guys got!

New Hardware iPad mini keyboard case two week review

I’ve had this MePadKey keyboard case for a while now, and these are my thoughts.

Starting with the fundamentals, the keyboard is good and does the job. It feels good to type on, never really had an issue with it. The layout of the keys will definitely take a second to get used to though (For example, in order to type ‘ you must do Fn + O). The keyboard also has a backlight, and interestingly, you can change the color of it. Kinda gimmicky though, I always keep it on white.

As for the trackpad, it’s pretty mid. Not a lot to say about it. The classic diving board design that we all know and absolutely love. It strains my finger a little to click and drag things on it, so I mostly use the touchscreen in those situations.

Lastly, my favorite part about this case is the form factor. I think it’s absolutely perfect. You can put it up in portrait mode (like in the 4th image), and also use it as a regular iPad stand (like in the 5th image). It’s also very light and portable, and has a soft texture to it. I only wish that the top left edge and the camera cutout lined up.

All in all/TLDR, I think compared to other iPad mini keyboard cases on the market, this is very solid. It makes me really really wish that Apple would approach making a keyboard cases for the iPad mini in a similar form. Literally the absolute perfect bed computer, especially with iPadOS 26

Found out quad lock makes a case for the mini to mount it on their mounts. It's a pretty nice fit on my bike, can't wait to try it out when the weather gets better.

New Hardware Finally pulled the trigger on the mini to use as my daily brain device

I had a 2018 iPad Pro with a bootleg pencil that I recently resurrected for taking notes. It worked fine, but it ate up so much battery even on standby that meant not being able to use it right away if I forgot to charge it overnight.

Decided to pull the trigger during a sale and I was able to get a brand new base mini, a Pencil Pro, a Paperlike screen, and the Pitaka folio for $615 total (would’ve been $790 at regular price in my country).

I use it first thing when I start my day to check my calendar and to do list, and to plan out the next day before winding down for the night. I also do a ton of brainstorming, which I use the Pencil for along with Freeform.

I’ve been trying to build a journaling habit as well. The pencil pro is really helping make it stick coz the writing experience just feels amazing — I can easily erase any mistakes with the squeeze feature, and Apple Intelligence automatically pretties up my crappy handwriting.

Best thing is it’s so fun to bring it everywhere I go just coz it’s so small and it feels like a solid notebook with the folio.

Loving this thing!

I got blue colour because that was only available, but I notice that colour is so subtle you don’t even care that much and it’s crazy experience to use it after using 13 inch iPad Air, this feels so relaxing and cute

New Hardware One month experience with iPad Mini after switching from iPad Air

I made this post just over a month ago asking for advice on moving to the iPad Mini that would let me combine 3 devices (iPad Air, Boox Note, Kindle) in one.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ipadmini/s/pAdwZipnpe

So after month, how’s it going?

Fantastic! I truly love this device. I ended up with the iPad Mini 7 with Apple Pencil Pro, a matte screen cover and Pitaka case.

First off the size: it’s not quite pocketable - although it does fit in a back pocket, it’s bulky - but it is so easy to carry and light and fits in almost any bag or coat pocket. While Boox Note had its perks, the size made it hard to transport efficiently.

So my use cases and how it’s working out…

Reading: I liked to read comics on my Boox and had a kindle for books. While the mini doesn’t have real estate of the larger Boox, it is easy to hold and the colors look great, even with the matte cover on. I also find myself reading books more. I set up automations to put my iPad into grey scale and lower brightness and silence all notifications when in my kindle app. Right now I have kept my Kindle ColorSoft for one reason - reading in bed. I charge my iPad in my office downstairs and to make sure it has enough power for the next day I don’t bring it upstairs. I haven’t found a good nightstand solution to charge alongside my phone and watch, so have kept kindle for now.

Media: Likewise, it’s great. I mainly used my iPad Air for watching movies/tv shows. I was a little hesitant to lose screen real estate but it’s been fine. Plus it’s easier to pick up and move around if I’m going to make dinner or just watch something on the couch. Again, the matte screen protector blends right in - obviously a direct comparison would show the compromise, but it works for me!

Notes: I’m using it a lot more than the Boox again because of size and I’m actually using the Notes app. I have Good Notes but I really just use lined templates and I like the Notes feature to improve my horrid handwriting. And with the screen protector and an extra ballpoint tip I had from my Air Rock Pencil Paper protector, it feels great. Like I actually like writing on it.

My last criteria when I asked was timing - and no regrets obviously the 8th gen didn’t get announced in March and when the time comes and the upgrade is worth it, I’ll consider but I have what I need.

TL;DR - the iPad mini works for all my needs and I was able to combine two devices in one while working to eliminate a third. Highly recommend if any of the use cases resonate with you.

New Hardware Joined the club and bought a keyboard for my iPad mini

I’m thinking that this could be a great compact computer for when my MacBook Pro would be unneeded.

Keyboard and trackpad quality is decent, nothing like a MacBook of course but it gets the job done. The arrangement and size of the keys will take getting used to for sure.

I do like how I can simply take the iPad off the keyboard and use it like that without a case, as I really enjoy using my iPad caseless. The only thing I dislike is the fact that it doesn’t come in White

Will report back in a few days whether I still like it or not

I’ve tried sketching and note taking on paper, but kept running out of space. Using Freeform on the Mini has been so freeing. I was worried that the 60Hz would bother me, but it’s not that bad.

New Hardware Found a fantastic keyboard case for my Mini

I had a cheaper one that was fine, but this one is great. It's about $30 more, 0.4 pounds heavier and a bit larger, but for that, you get a much better feeling keyboard with more of the punctuation keys in the right place. the extra weight is all in the base so it's much steadier, and it has a space to hold the Pencil which I love having.

Enables me to travel without my work laptop a lot more often.
