Is anyone upgrading their Ipad mini 7 to the soon to be released 8?
Tell me your thoughts about this especially if you decide not to.
Any comment is much appreciated.

I would consider a new mini if it had pro like features.
M processor
Face ID
otherwise, pass

u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
I'm glad to hear that. apple only reallt does minor upgrades when it comes to newer model.

u/IllMoney69 12d ago
I’m considering going from my 6 to an 8 when it’s released, but it will depend on how big of an upgrade it is as I’d like to get at least another year or two out of my current iPad.

u/heymynameisjavi 12d ago
same
my 6 still runs wonderfully so is not like im in a rush
3
u/IllMoney69 12d ago
Mine is so slow and laggy. It must be the battery that’s done as battery life is average.
I got a new battery put in my iPhone 13 mini last week and it’s like a new phone or almost.1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Are you upgrading once the new one comes out?
1
u/heymynameisjavi 12d ago
oh 100% but hopefully its a good upgrade that is worth it. still getting it though regardless cuz it will most likely either have 120hz or oled, or maybe both so who knows

u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Oh ok, thanks for the comment.
I'm still contemplating if i should just get the mini 7 right now ir i should just wait for a bit for the 8.
2
u/ibra86him 12d ago
Either wait or get 7 and use it, im using 6 with no issues at all, geting 7 and switching after few months is waste of money + knowing apple features difference won’t be that significant

Ahhh my kind of people
Yeah i agree, exactly my thoughts and I'm not the type to upgrade my devices. I only ever replace them when the device no longer works.
Goodluck with your purchase, i might just get the mini 7 myself and not worry about what comes next anymore.

u/nuetralparties 12d ago
I will, only if it has OLED, PRO MOTION, and FACE ID
I think a lot of people are overvaluing OLED and undervaluing the convenience of Face ID tbh. Having to awkwardly use your finger to unlock but it doesn’t register after trying for 5-10 seconds so you end up using the code anyways is so inconvenient and happens way too often
2
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
That's true, likewise convenience is also my main priority atm. i can see how that would be very time consuming in a day to day basis.
2
u/nuetralparties 12d ago
Yea it’s the difference between having a quick idea of something to look up, or open an app, or maybe creatively you want to jot something down but then your fighting with the fingerprint reader for a few seconds and the moment is gone
It’s a bit of a small thing but it’s my main annoyance with the mini
2
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
I can see that, it's actually a big deal breaker for me as well. I mean the main idea of having a device like that is for the convenience, a problem like that would take a way the essence of it in a sense. Hopefully that would get an upgrade to or even just a fix.

u/jjbugman2468 12d ago
Nah. I only splurge-upgraded from my 5 to the 7. Going to be a long long time before I decide to upgrade again.

u/Deodavinio 12d ago
Is there an Ipad mini 8 coming soon? I was not aware of it. What are the rumors?
5
u/MeMyselfAndMe_Again 12d ago
Rumours. Wait until the time.
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Yeah there's no guarantee when it would release
4
u/silverfish477 12d ago
Nor any guarantees on specs so your entire post is a baffling waste of time.
1
5
u/junerlegion 12d ago
Nah. I got my 7 when i upgraded from my 4. Will wait for a better upgrade
2
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
The only upgrade that would matter for me would be a 120hz screen, but i don't see that happening soon.

u/rosycheeks650 12d ago
Im happy with my mini 7 256gb (I actually just upgraded my ipad air m3 256gb to the m4 512gb)
2
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
I'm happy to hear that.
So you're not gonna upgrade for quite a while? If you aren't too busy, would you mind sharing a bit of what you like so much about it to say that you won't be upgrading.
5
u/Fast-Breadfruit9171 12d ago
I would like to upgrade from my mini 5, however the last mini came out in 2024 and they have not actually confirmed it for 2026 as far as I know. Also the mini tends to be cheaper/low spec so not too hopeful for a19/oled/face unlock
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Yeah it's not likely they would do that nor is anything really confirmed.
6
3
u/Mast3rX 12d ago
Probably not. I purchased the 256GB mini 7 version mainly to consume media whilst travelling.
2
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Planning on getting that specs too, with cellular.
Thank you for the comment, i just wanted to know for those who has alread bought ine. If they'd be upgrading or taying with the 7. Thank you so much for the comment.
2
u/Wise_Reception8615 12d ago
idk, I liked the mini 7 in the beginning but now I'm not using it as much. I think I might just go back to the iPad air or the 11" sizes

u/faizsadikinn 12d ago
If this two upgrades are on ipad mini 8. Then I’ll consider. 1. Oled Screen 2. M series chip
3
2
u/RandomSculler 12d ago
Bigger screen in same size, waterproofing and faceID has me very interested
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
hopefully it does, nothing is yet confirmed. All just rumors at the moment.
2
u/SillyGoose3939 12d ago
I'm thinking of buying the 6 and then upgrade it to the 8 if I need more power, I just hope that it won't be an oled only device. It would almost be a dealbreaker to me

u/Scorpion101325 12d ago
Even though I have ipad mini 7, if ipad mini 8 has 120hz, I will go pre-order then :3
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Hopefully it does, but from the looks of it. I think the chances of that happen would be very low.
3
u/Scorpion101325 12d ago
if it doesn't have 120hz, well good news for me so I can save my money then :3
2
u/accountdeleted-1 10d ago
Yeah, Enjoy your mini 7. Unfortunately for me i don't have an ipad right now, so I'll just be holding on for a while before deciding.
2
u/Hudie_is 12d ago
My 5 is working well but it probably won’t be long before my game take out mini 5 as one of the supported device so i’ll be looking out for 8.
Heard it’s probably got OLED and better refresh rate as well
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
The OLED would be more than enough for me, another thing would be facial recognition.
2
u/Tarra85 12d ago
I still have the iPad mini 6 - I won’t be upgrading cause I cannot afford to sadly 🫤
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
That's more than okay, you're lucky to have one. Don't let others tell you otherwise.
2
u/movdqa 12d ago
I'm still quite happy with my 6. Performance is still fine for me. My wife uses my old 5 and she says that it's fine. Daughter has a 7 because some of the work she does on it needs it.
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Wow a ipad mini family, that's amazing hahahaha. I'm happy to see how much influence the mini has on your family.
2
u/Hopeful-Childhood396 12d ago
I went for a cheap 6 this month, if it’s tempting enough I’ll sell it and go for the 8.
Didn’t want to spend too much on the 7 for the same reason as you, so that was my outcome
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Lucky, i don't even have the privilege of have an older mini Hahahaha. Likewise it's better to not waste money too much, that's why upgrading or trading in is a non-negotiable for me. It's really a waste of money?
2
u/Hopeful-Childhood396 12d ago
Bought it used mate. Trading it in or selling it again probably won’t lose much money, that was my thought process. Didn’t want to spend extra money for the a16 or mini7.
Only downside is the storage of 64gb, for me it’s ok because i have a very simple and basic use but don’t even find the iPad slow or sluggish.
My idea was to go for the mini8 if it seemed worthy, but i might even keep this one, more than enough for media consumption and reading wich is my main use
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Wow, that's actually a very grounded and positive response. Yeah if it ain't broke or slow, it's still good. Your mini is still standing strong for now. I guess if you really want to upgrade, it should be if you really need it.
Thank you for the comment.
2
u/Hopeful-Childhood396 12d ago edited 12d ago
Cheers mate. Good luck with your decision. If you need it now go for one now, there’s still a few months ahead before the 8 arrives (IF it arrives.. it isn’t confirmed)
If your not comfortable with reselling it again, don’t go for the 6
2
u/accountdeleted-1 10d ago
Yeah, for now I'm not really rushing and in need for one. So for the time being i think I'm gonna wait for a bit, because when i checked ordering with education discount it's gonna arrive when my summer class is over, so it's not gonna have it's main purpose for a while, which is for school. However I could use it for editing videos and streaming, but I'll probably just wait for since I'm already close to September. If nothing shows then I'll probably get the mini 7. Yeah no guarantee or even an assurance, we don't really know when it releases.
Welp til i figure out this dilemma, there's nothing i can do but wait. Thanks for the comment, it's very helpful to me. It's much appreciated.

u/femininlo 12d ago
Yesss! I will definitely.. my mini 7 is awesome so i would love to see what comes next specially if an oled screen is introduced!

u/unholysainthood 12d ago
From 7 to 8, it’s not a day one, instant preorder for me. I’d probably be looking for potential Apple Pencil upgrades as i do like to use Procreate a lot. 120hz and OLED would help but I think I’d need something bigger to make me feel like I need the upgrade, ya know?
1
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
Oh ok, try checking out refurbished Ipad pros. I think that's what you're really looking for.
2
u/CharlesBeast 12d ago
Only if it’s 120hz
2
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
That's a really valid reason, I mean the 17 standard iphone has 120 why not the mini too since they are upgrading it to OLED.
2
2
u/ADHDK 12d ago
Only if it has always on display.
Otherwise no, current one isn’t giving me any performance issues and is damned near new.
Given the size of it, always on display and like a Dock display mode when charging and standing would be amazing. Would probably also need FaceID though to really work as nicely as it does on iPhone.
1
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
Yeah, especially the faceID, I'm really not a fan of fingerprint sensors. The older they get the worst the recognition gets.
2
u/DrunkPhoenix26 12d ago
I just went from a 5 to a 7 a few weeks ago. I’m very happy with the upgrade and whatever is in the mythical 8 would have to be a game changer to get me to even consider upgrading again.
1
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
That's true, Trading in would be such a waste of money tbh and I'm sure the mini 7 would run just fine for a few more years.
2
u/Dramatic-Disaster710 12d ago
No way. Mine is fully functional and fit for all I need.
I would say thanks, but no, thanks.
1
2
u/Strong-Ordinary-6967 12d ago
I would take the OLED which should help with battery life as well as the chip and the redesigned speakers.
2
2
u/rensuchan 12d ago
I have a 6.
As long as the 8 features a better screen (OLED preferably but I would take Mini-LED too) then I will be upgrading. I don’t need ProMotion though it would be nice.
For me, the Mini is primarily a content consumption device with also potential for light gaming. I don’t need 120Hz for either purpose, but I do want content to look as good as it can so I value the quality of the screen output over anything else. To me it’s the biggest thing lacking in the 6 since I have OLED or Mini-LED in most of my other apple devices.
1
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
That's so true, especially in todays age. It would make sense to upgrade it to OLED and hopefully a faceID.
2
2
u/esper_wing 12d ago
I probably will eventually, but not straight away at release. We don’t know enough about it yet to know whether it’s worth the upgrade. My 6 is showing its age, but it’s still perfectly usable, and upgrading before I need to feels wasteful.

2
u/Logical_Scar3962 12d ago
If they somehow manage to double battery life, I’ll think about it. No other specs upgrade/change can convince me
1
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
I don't really have an idea what the battery life is like, but i hope it's not a deal breaker.
2
u/Logical_Scar3962 10d ago
If they do something insane like what others demand, like M chip and 120hz without drastically improving battery, then that is the most deal breaker of all deal breakers regarding ipad.
1
u/accountdeleted-1 10d ago
Oh ok ok, that makes sense. The M chip is already powerful enough and with 120 hz it's gonna be draining the battery really fast.
2
u/mendezlife84 12d ago
I'll probably upgrade from the iPad mini 5 but I will say that I'm hoping for some real improvements. I want the oled screen, high refresh rate, great to have an M chip...basicaly the pro that everyone wants. I've been an ipad fan for so long and the fact that we as a community have to hope and for things other tablets already have is rough. I've also been thinking about jumping ship and getting a Legion or redmagic tablet.
2
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
That's pretty valid, coming from a mini 5. Well goodluck to us all waiting.
2
u/kiddredd 12d ago
I’m not sure they’ll release a new iPad Mini this fall since the long rumored folding iPhone is set to arrive. But who knows?
1
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
Yeah that could be a possibility, since they're almost both similar in screen sizes and the price difference would be enormous. One of them is gonna lose some sales.
2
u/ghstudio 12d ago
while you are getting lots of answers, until we know the changes and the prices, it's just dinner table conversation..
1
u/accountdeleted-1 11d ago
Hahahah yeah, well that's not exactly a bad thing. I enjoy talking with people here and their experiences.
2
u/Adr0u 12d ago
I’ll do only if it comes with M processor 🫠
2
u/accountdeleted-1 12d ago
If that isn't the case, are you going to stay with the 7 still? Despite the 8 possibly coming with an OLED screen?
5
u/Adr0u 12d ago
Yes, if the processor isn’t series M then I’ll stay with my 7 because I just love it and I use it daily, I don’t need an OLED screen, and since I always have my Mini in front of me unlocked with a static screen when I’m not working with it, then it’s better to have the current display.

Yes because I should have got cellular with the mini not just WiFi. Hotspot is okay, but I find it clunky.

If it’s OLED, I’ll have mine pre-ordered
