Question How do you find 60Hz? Doesn't it feel slow?
Almost all my electronic devices have a +90Hz refresh rate and feel very smooth; I don't understand how you can't notice it on the iPad Mini. Otherwise, it's a great device, but this frustrates me.

I’ve only ever used the Pro Max phones, have an M1 iPad Pro, and I can say without a doubt that I do not notice the difference in my mini 7. Might have something to do with the fact that I only use it for streaming, scrolling social media, or reading and my eyes are probably tired from working at a computer all day. If they bring 120hz to the iPad Mini that’s cool but if it doesn’t happen that’s also fine with me.
If anything landscape front camera might be in next upgrade since it is one of the few iPads that hasn’t made the leap yet

I don’t notice it and don’t really care to compare etc. I really think it’s like a technology snob thing lol At the end of the day It does what I want it to do and I know what to expect when I bought it.

I have a Pro and the Mini A17 and I never notice. The Switch 2 and my Pro are my only high refresh rate devices and I can’t tell the difference.

I don't notice a significant difference from my phone, which is 120 hz.

I find that high refresh only matters in a very small number of scenarios and a lot of those don’t even really affect me day to day. I don’t game, most of the content I consume is usually not taking advantage of high refresh or using high FPS, I don’t draw or write enough to notice the difference, and I’m not rapidly scrolling through pages and pages on screen.

I’ve never noticed but I have noticed people who’ve convinced themselves it bothers them and feel it necessary to let everyone else know that it bothers them. Just buy something else if it’s so unusable.

I call it the I-watched-one-MKBHD-video-and-now-I-am-the-authority-in-refresh-rate-tolerability syndrome.

Until recently the vast majority of displays in my life were 60hz. It’s just a normal display. Most media is recorded at 24 or 30fps, scrolling Reddit is just scrolling Reddit, I’m not playing twitch shooters on my iPad mini. It just doesn’t need it. I have an iPhone 14 Pro, 120hz is nice I guess? Honestly I like the 1hz always on display more than the 120hz part

You have to be looking for FPS to notice the difference in most cases for a tablet. The few situations it’s glaringly obvious are editing media and playing high FPS demanding games, both of which people usually look elsewhere hardware wise than an iPad to do those things.

how did you live till the past few years? I mean, look at the phones we had 10 years ago, our TVs and laptops...

In the past I used to go to the cinema. It was all 24fps. I never complained.

For me it feels very slow. It’s a lovely device otherwise I absolutely love the form factor and it works fine for light media consumption but even there I find my iPad Pro much better with oled screen.
iPad mini is a great device but the screen is really horrible compared to the pros. And if you have a pro you’ll have a hard time adjusting.
That’s why my mini 7 stays in the drawer. I should probably sell it.

Since it's pretty much the last 60hz device I have, I absolutely notice it - but it doesn't bother me. The mini for me is mostly for reading and watching YouTube, so its pretty inconsequential. If I could only have one, I'd much rather an OLED screen upgrade over a faster refresh on the mini. But if we got both that would be ideal.

I'm a gamer using a 165Hz screen and the mini for work and it's painful every time.

This, its not even a default for gamers. Enhanced refresh rates are now standard across major consumer products. I notice it every time.

Its there, but its also a non issue. I notice the panel quality but thats because my home is full of OLED and miniLED devices. So the contrast is very noticeable.

Noticed it for the first few days then adjusted.
That said I wish they put in 120hz

I don’t notice on my iPad mini. Content streaming and note taking is what I use it for. Nothing is hitting higher than 60. But everything else? 120hz and higher.

I really don’t want it to bother me, but it really does. Only device that slow and it stands out quite a bit.

All the people saying they don't notice it are in denial. As soon as they buy a 120hz model, they will say it is the best ever.

I really don't notice it. If it was side by side with something else that was 120 then I probably would but just using it alone to me it is not noticeable

It feels slow. I think there’s a lot of cope with the current iPad mini but comparing it to ProMotion iPads, 60hz really feels sluggish.

Yah I’m with you, I notice it the moment I start scrolling. Feels noticeably less smooth than my iPhone and iPad Pro, for example, and it’s pretty jarring going from one of those to my iPad mini.

Yeeeeeah I’m starting to not like 60Hz at all since my phone is 120Hz. You can really tell the difference on scrolling. I hope the next one is 90-120Hz. OLED too

Influencers and tech reviewers may be more susceptible to being screen elitists as they try a lot more devices than the average consumer. Personally, I’ve never noticed the frame rate or lack of OLED on my Mini 7. I own an M4 MacBook Air and an iPhone 17 Pro. My iPad Mini is my most used device.
Ignore the YouTube tech lords. The iPad Mini is a blast to use.

Highly noticeable. It's the one major thing that I can't stand about my mini and part of why I just don't use it much anymore.

u/jonspilger 13d ago
I notice it almost every time I use it. But it’s still a great device.
Still wish it had a 90hz display 🤷🏻♂️

Okay for video, unusable for anything else. Even my iPad pro 10.5 (which is almost a decade old atp) had 120hz display. Returned mini 7 because the display was so bad. Hope the 8 fixes that.

Don't notice, never noticed, can't say I've ever been bothered by it.
