Switched from M4 13 to iPad Mini 7th Gen
I’ve gone from one extreme to the other. The M4 was great when it was on the stand on my desk, or even when travelling on a plane (although it didn’t leave much room for anything else on the tray), but outside of that I found I wasn’t really using my iPad at all. The size would put me off from using it on the sofa, in bed, etc.
I’d read a lot about the Mini but never owned one. I was worried it’d be too small, especially coming from the biggest iPad, but straight away I fell in love with the size of it - and I love it even more now having spent a few days using it. It’s barely left my side since. Sure, I miss the OLED screen and 120hz would be lovely, but at least I’m now actually using my iPad a lot more.
Got a great deal on it too - £280/$373 for as new condition, only one previous cycle charge. Sold my M4 for £680/$90, so exactly a £400/$533 difference between the two. Give me the Mini and £400 in my pocket any day of the week.

Two weeks ago my mother got Samsung Tab A11 plus for a present. I didn’t liked the device or the software, but it got me interested into iPads.
I got myself second hand iPad mini 5th gen and I love it. The small form factor is really a life changer - it makes the tablet comfortable enough to grab it instead of your phone.
Aside of that - iPad mini 5th gen is still supported although it’s an old device. Most of you maybe think that it’s not suitable for daily tasks but I can comfortably browse the web, social media, messaging and even gaming - like standoff 2 or wild rift. Nothing too heavy, but the iPad keeps running. Compared to the Samsung - this iPad performs better - I didn’t expect that assuming there is a 4-5 year gap in between.
Shortly: I enjoy the iPad mini a lot and for sure I will upgrade to a new mode in the future.

I did the reverse , I went from a 8 day old mini 7 to the m4 air just last week . I love the form factor and everything of the mini . Performance wise I’m used to using my wife’s m5 pro 13” and the performance was not as good as that so I instantly saw the flaws that most people would not mind . The final straw was when me and my wife and son were hanging out at my brothers house and I noticed he was using the 5g cell connection on his a16 11” to play gamepass cloud gaming and my wife was using hers as to watch movies while scrolling the internet , my mini handled both task poor compared to the other two iPads . I was shocked and confused I went into research mode and realized the mini is made for the form factor and not as much the “wow” performance apple usually provides . So far with m4 air I haven’t had those issues but I miss the hand held size . With all that Dias I do want the mini 8 ….. still lol 😂

I get you. Ideally I’d have the Mini and kept the M4 also. I think there is a case for owning both, they have different uses, but personally I know I wouldn’t use the M4 anywhere near as much to justify keeping it. Especially given how much I’ve been using the Mini.
The good thing is, the price I’ve bought the Mini for, I’ll be able to sell it and get all of the money back that I’ve paid for it, so I’m treating this as a risk-free run of owning the Mini that I’d read so much about, with an eye on buying the much rumoured OLED Mini 8 when/if that comes out. That for me would be the best of both worlds.

What's the stand you have for your iPad?

It’s the Satechi Aluminium Desktop Stand. Just seen it’s unavailable on Amazon, but might be available elsewhere. Bought it for the M4 but the Mini looks great on it too, if not better, as the M4 was probably a bit too big for it.

128gb, although I share 2TB iCloud storage with my wife so I never really have to worry about it.

What do you use it for on a stand? Mine goes heavily under-utilised when I’m at my desk.
