Purple?

u/McCatso-Fy 17d ago

You would think this would be a no brainer since it’s 2026 and people shouldn’t be compelled to choose but rather demand it when the competition offers both for same price or less

2

u/Low-Front-1452 16d ago

So true. But through the years, I've come to the conclusion, that there are 2 companies that will NEVER take things like that(customer requests and demands) into consideration... Apple and Disney. It's 100% bottom line, all the time. They know if 1 customer leaves due to not being satisfied, 2 more will take their place. Technically, we SHOULDN'T have to choose, but we will. We will.šŸ˜†

3

u/Mammoth-Plane-6890 16d ago

I haven't bought an apple product since 2011, but booooy howdy have I bought stocks

1

u/vegcharli 12d ago

It's 100% bottom line for every publicly traded company where one person doesn't hold over 50% of shares. (Voting share is irrelevant).

This isn't speculation, it's literally a crime to consider anything else.

56

u/umshyp 17d ago

Oled because it means better battery life.

18

u/Admirable-Common-176 17d ago

šŸ‘ And sunlight visibility. For such a portable and useful device it should be priority.

56

u/Ok-Limit-9726 17d ago

120hz 100%

2

u/Ok-Limit-9726 16d ago

Reason is gaming,

I play on ipad pro m5 at home, mini when out bored, or on holidays, and the difference is just annoying!

Iphone 17 pro max is great, but very small for my old ass!

3

u/Correct_Ad_877 16d ago

Gaming ? You’d have to get 120 fps to make it mean anything gaming wise . PCs at 2k resolution hardly get 120 fps games.

3

u/Floufae 16d ago

Even something as basic as Pokemon go on my iPad mini 7 vs my iPhone Pro is very different. I don’t need the extra frames but it looks so much better when you can turn on high refresh rate

1

u/Ok-Limit-9726 15d ago

Yes when doing curve ball on 2025mini its laggy, low fps compared to iphone air, iphone 17 pro max, feels same as iphone 11

1

u/Ok-Limit-9726 16d ago

Been gaming on ios since 2020, after decades of PC building, i get 120fps in game 28ping

1

u/Correct_Ad_877 16d ago

What games would you even be playing that would need that like action or fps? You can’t necessarily say it’s 120 fps unless you are running an fps tester .

u/Weedbrah 15d ago

Most competitive games run easy at over 120 hz on mid tier graphic cards. But single player games are a different story

1

u/vegcharli 12d ago

On which games? My Windows laptop is pretty garbage compared to a proper computer and it can still run 240 fps on popular games. Indie titles haven't been an issue in forever either. Minecraft, Stardew, Balatro, Hollow Knight, Celeste, STS, Hades, Deltarune, etc will just run on anything.

*most people.

I use mine during day as spare pokemon go/pikman mobile gaming,

Then for work doing invoices,

On holidays for watching movies(especially flying) tv series and CODM

At home have secondary codm account if needed for fun.

Ipad mini cellular user since gen2, now a17

u/Sherw00d91 17d ago

Nano texture😁

31

u/ChowderPanda 17d ago

OLED. I’m never much of a critic, but the color depth and brightness of the screen just leaves a lot to be desired, especially in brighter environments

7

u/Proxy-Pie 17d ago

120hz no contest.

31

u/92233720368547758080 17d ago

OLED. This may be controversial but i think OLED would be much better than 120hz. I can't even notice it anyway

8

u/umdterp732 17d ago

I need a brighter screen for outdoor work so OLED all the way

2

u/Da_Droid_Mechanic 17d ago

I agree man, I do a lot of reading on my mini and having oled for outside would just be šŸ¤ŒšŸ»šŸ¤ŒšŸ»šŸ¤ŒšŸ»

3

u/RIL-_-NY 17d ago

I’m here for this take. Can’t say I care much for anything above 60hz if it’s not for gaming… which I can do on anything else. Team OLED.

2

u/[deleted] 17d ago

[deleted]

2

u/frumply 17d ago

For the sake of phones and iPads it only really matters for scrolling smoothness, or if you’re trying to constantly read things while scrolling which to me sounds insane.

12

u/sgtakase 17d ago

OLED over 120 hz any day. Battery gains plus most content is 24, 30, or 60 fps so Pro Motion wouldn’t make too big of a difference for me anyway

15

u/Ill_Connection_341 17d ago

I would choose 120hz, but it has battery implicationsĀ

6

u/xjmachado 17d ago

OLED for me, please.

4

u/stainedbutts 17d ago

OLED for sure

5

u/Ok-Surprise-7594 17d ago

OLED for me

4

u/femininlo 17d ago

Oled display

4

u/PsychJay 17d ago

OLED with higher nits AND a better battery is all I need. Not just an OLED that saves some battery.

4

u/Johnnyfever13 17d ago

Whatever the least impact to battery life āš”ļø

I use my iPad mini for travel and I need it to last all day šŸ‘šŸ¼

5

u/Slightly-Blasted 17d ago

120hz easily

An Oled 60Hz screen is still 60Hz,

Give me a nice 120HZ lcd all day over a 60Hz Oled

6

u/GrimThursday 17d ago

ProMotion for sure

3

u/jonspilger 17d ago

OLED
Though, it would be nice if it went up to 90hz

3

u/tc05_ 17d ago

I think it should have both considering the price of the device, BUT if i had to choose one, definitely OLED

3

u/Individual_Hat8877 17d ago

OLED over 120hz but both would be better.

3

u/Primary_Gear_8880 16d ago

My almost decade old iPad Pro has 120hz but the mini still doesn’t 😭

1

u/neperjr 15d ago

😭😭

5

u/GuilleBriseno 17d ago

Promotion obviously

2

u/Scorpion101325 17d ago

120 hz.
As a rhythm player, OLED display almost means nothing to improve the performance. 120hz does.

2

u/jtlee9 17d ago

120hz all day lol. A 120hz non oled panel can still look really good, but a 60hz oled panel can never look as smooth.

2

u/imalliam 17d ago

Definitely promotion

2

u/Enpeeare 17d ago

promotion

2

u/No-Squash7469 17d ago

120hz and it’s not even close to me. the screen on the current mini is fine, but 60hz while the base model iPhone is 120hz is not

2

u/Spades1412 17d ago

Promotion

2

u/Nightly_harbor7 17d ago

I want MagSafe charging and docking

2

u/Far_Mixture_7846 16d ago

Not having both in a device that cost that much is pretty laughable.

1

u/neperjr 16d ago

Fr, that's the most apple thing ever. They added 120 hz just last year on iphone 17 (even though androids have been using that for like 6 years now)

2

u/Left-Pomegranate3519 16d ago

Pro motion easily

2

u/doniSAN69 16d ago

Red, I’m not a fan of OLED unless they use LTPS, but who knows, the Mini is a premium device.

2

u/Neither_Industry_934 16d ago

Both but if I had to choose one, 120Hz.

2

u/dbdynsty25 16d ago

Promotion is the only answer. A stuttering OLED is worthless.

2

u/sherbcrossing 16d ago

oled but both ideally lol

2

u/M0DFATH3R 16d ago

Both, let's be greedy

2

u/heymynameisjavi 16d ago

oled lol

most of us use it for media. so we arent really watching content in 120hz. every show is locked at 30fps so wether is 30,60 or 120 it doesnt matter

oled overall makes everything more enjoyable

im thinking iphone wise. i would much rather oled and deep blacks than a fast screen lol

we had oled like pannels on iphones before we did 120hz for a reason

2

u/Sol492 16d ago

Promotion

2

u/Example-Difficult 15d ago

oled display by far, in ipad 120 hz refresh rate is not so necessary in my opinion.

2

u/tylerronan 15d ago

Promotion apples lcds have always been excellent

2

u/Steka68 15d ago

How will either affect the battery life?

2

u/PedestrianXing 15d ago

Both, but promotion if really forced to choose.

2

u/WolfyMacontosh87 14d ago

Apple is not going to release a 120 Hz promotion display that isn’t OLED.
I realize that they did this for a time on the iPad Pro, it was essentially Mini LED but considering even the base iPhone models now are both OLED and 120 Hz that’s what’s most certainly coming to the iPad mini

3

u/thirty1paul 17d ago

Red, and it’s not even close

2

u/ElSasori69 17d ago

Neither, not necessary, I want cellphone capabilities to make calls to replace the mobile

4

u/MsMarji 17d ago

What about VOIP apps?

1

u/Love2Pug 16d ago

What I want is all my existing contacts to be able to call and SMS me at my existing number. Currently this only works if I transfer my current # to a virtual one (aka google voice $$).

1

u/MsMarji 16d ago edited 16d ago

I’ve had GV since Google bought Grand Central Station & launched GV in 2009, GV is a forwarding service. It’s my public phone number.

Google still offers GV FREE for individuals. You don’t have to use the paid GV Workplace. You have to have a Gmail account.

ā€œGoogle Voice for personal use provides a free, cloud-based phone number that links to your existing mobile or landline. It is perfect for protecting your primary number on dating apps or online marketplaces, and includes free domestic calling, voicemail transcription, and spam blocking.ā€

1

u/Love2Pug 14d ago

But to transfer my current mobile number to GV, that isn't free, correct?

→ More replies (3)

2

u/OnTop-BeReady 17d ago

You do that on a Mini 6 today with a cellular ipad and WiFi calling or one of the VOIP apps. Don’t wait…

1

u/jezarnold 17d ago

I want it to be able to connect via USB-C to a monitor and have Stage Manager capabilities. In other words , give it an M-Series chip

Connect keyboard and mouse, and I’ve got the perfect little computer to travel with

1

u/lotusek_salamek 17d ago

You can totally do that
On iOS 26 it had native stage manager support on external displays and on iOS 18 you can enable it using tools like Nugget or Misaka26

1

u/Competitive_Funny964 17d ago

Keep screen eye safe, make more storage instead and keep updates and security of private life of consumer. That is all I need. Don’t wanna pay oled flickering, don’t need 120h for reading 1 min a page…

1

u/WorriedBrain4791 17d ago

is it even gonna come out in the near future

1

u/Deplorable-Warrant 17d ago

I’d rather have bigger storage options. Minimum 1TB

1

u/5tudent_Loans 17d ago

Oled is way more important. A close enough second would be miniLED… they can gatekeep the refresh rate, I dont care

1

u/ajpinton 17d ago

I’d have to care enough about either to want them. Also be aware your $500 iPad mini will be $700 with these features.

1

u/GrossGiGi 17d ago

120hz so I can have a portable drawing tablet. It’s the only thing that’s kept me from buying an iPad mini so far.

1

u/philrod98 17d ago

OLED because I mainly watch content so I would rather Oled since its 24-30fps content

1

u/Far-Imagination-4088 17d ago

Oled and thinner bezels xd. 120 doesn’t do anything for me tbh

1

u/blondasek1993 17d ago

Bright OLED.

1

u/ubzy0 17d ago

it needs to be both

1

u/Hilltop5620 17d ago

120 Hz first and then Oled display. All with a strong battery..

1

u/ThisIsNotTokyo 17d ago

OLED. 60hz is totally fine for the mini

1

u/Cryptotiptoe21 17d ago

What kind of question is this? The new iPad is going to have a 120 hertz screen and it is going to be OLED.

1

u/stevemis 17d ago

Blue > Red

OLED vs LED is a massive upgrade for a device made up for media consumption. 120hz appreciated but not a deal breaker

1

u/Pretend_Company9323 17d ago

OLED. For watching content.

1

u/Da_Droid_Mechanic 17d ago

Oled, honestly I don’t need 120hz for what I do on my iPad, all I do is read and watch videos on it. 120hz would be overkill really and oled would we really sweet to look at.

1

u/CREEPINGIRON 17d ago

Probably an OLED.

1

u/IncredibleGonzo 17d ago

OLED no question. 120Hz is nice but I’m not one of those people who can’t go back, 60Hz is still absolutely fine for me. But OLED is so much better than the LCD the current ones have.

1

u/Caju_47 17d ago

I WOULD RATHER HAVE A DECENT EXTENDED DISPLAY MODE, INSTEAD OF THAT MIRRORED CRAP.

1

u/Gamer12Numbers 17d ago

OLED. I don’t need to scroll Reddit at 120Hz

1

u/Arbaux 17d ago

ugh.... i guess it's gonna be OLED

1

u/Temporary-Fig-7621 17d ago

OLED because of reading and watching movies. It’s not even close. Only thing I will miss is 1000 nits.

1

u/minneverdig 17d ago

Im hoping it gets both normal and wide-angle lenses on the back, so it can take macro photos then I could just stick my iPhone Air in the charger on 80% battery as a iMessage/sms hub, and cary the mini with me daily on a mobile plan (wishful thinking that won't happen, titanium frame and thin as the iPhone Air, and waterproof) Oled over 120hz tho..

1

u/Mean_Criticism983 17d ago

pro motion on a LED screen? huge pass lol

1

u/rolandguy85 17d ago

OLED VRR 120hz

1

u/DeeDee182 17d ago

I used to be such an apple hater but I got a mini for my last job and its just something I dont need an upgrade. But if I was just given the choice id pick oled. 60 hz on here is so smooth.

1

u/FrostyFlakesagain 17d ago

If doesn’t have promotion and OLED. May have to consider redmagic astra.

1

u/ATiredPersonoof 17d ago

Both is the only way or not buying it I'd rather buying an iphone 18 pro max and ipad mini than buying the iphone fold

1

u/tallcatgirl 17d ago

120 hz as they will use terrible flickering OLED as every time

1

u/Best_Needleworker_57 17d ago

If it’s a choice, Promotion.

1

u/Bubbly_Wave_6818 17d ago

What people should be concerned about is the Apple Pencil requirement for the mini

1

u/Eastern_Draft6338 16d ago

Oled could care less about 120hz

1

u/Vanilla-prison 16d ago

120hz. Going from my iPad Pro, I notice the screen ā€œlagā€ quite a bit. OLED is take it or leave it for me

1

u/Icy-Excuse7929 16d ago

Neither of them, my eyes hurt of OLED

1

u/Murky-Conclusion-932 16d ago

It's 2026. It shouldn't be one or the other, should include both, and the A19 Pro.

1

u/dodgyduckquacks 16d ago

Whichever one has Face ID!

1

u/Balazi 16d ago

OLED

1

u/revolevo 16d ago

promotion. tbh battery gains don’t matter when they’re punching physics in the face with their charging speeds, and portable chargers are becoming slimmer and thinner…. and inevitable with multiple devices… if you own an ipad im looking right at you

< 90 hz is also what genuinely makes me take AVP off during mac virtual display sessions besides other ecosystem incompetence

every time low power mode turns on my phone i can’t stand the screen and end up turning it back off 😭 im biased because i don’t use ipad for gaming or movie watching but appreciate the very rare times i do. they’re all too small and i see the device more as a canvas and utility pad, and with multi tasking, as a student….. ESPECIALLY on the ipad, it needs to feel like it can keep up with you and not penalize you for challenging its power.

screen brightness doesn’t need to be aimed at higher numbers when apple is mastering their cooling technology to allow exceedingly visible brightness in sunlight. and with nanotexture? i’m sorry, but my take is the most biblically accurate

1

u/t440p-user 16d ago

Eink display

1

u/neperjr 16d ago

iKindle mini šŸ˜‚

1

u/Hot_Individual5081 16d ago

both or i dont care

1

u/Love2Pug 16d ago

How about make it a usable phone replacement, and remove the unnecessary restriction on cellular voice and text? What petition do I need to sign for that?

1

u/Traditional-Read9659 16d ago

OLED with 120Hz refresh. Non-negotiable.

1

u/Trysta1217 16d ago

OLED.

120hz would be nice, but what I need most is a brighter screen with better contrast not a smoother scrolling one.

Reading at extremes (bright sunlight or very dark rooms) are both less than ideal on the iPad mini because of the LCD display and OLED would make this better.

But let's be real. If we don't get OLED we DEFINITELY won't be getting 120hz.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for both.

1

u/elevenplays 16d ago

None. I want the headphone jack back!

2

u/neperjr 16d ago

Valid point!! 😭

1

u/jhfenton 16d ago

OLED. I can barely see the difference with 120 Hz on a small screen.

But it should be both.

1

u/cocomirai 16d ago

People debating STANDARD features that many other brands already offer is wild. Guys, have some respect for you all please. If Apple doesn't not provide both features on the next iPad Mimi I will just simply get a Huawei Mate Pad Mini. 144HZ and OLED already. Like many other. Lol.

1

u/neperjr 16d ago

As a student pilot, i simply can't use other devices except for ipads for my flight training. Idk what deal apple has signed, but some very important aviation apps are exclusively available on app store only.

1

u/melancholicsoldier 16d ago

People talk about the display being inadequate and absolutely must have oled and hear it anytime the Mini is mentioned. I don't think the display is bad at all. It's the speakers that need upgrading. I could deal with the display staying the way it is if it comes with improvements in other areas particularly the speakers. That being said, oled is going to happen. I don't have any influence over what Apple does lol so don't get too mad at me

1

u/Fluid-Sea-9099 16d ago

Oled because my eyes hurt when reading on lcd

1

u/theF14 16d ago

120hz. From what I’ve heard Oled is just too delicate

1

u/dylanbeck 16d ago

What about iphone fold (ultra) that becomes the size of the Ipad Mini when opened up and has both?

1

u/maplepiper73 16d ago

Ok well if we take the oled display pill and become Neo we don’t need the pro motion display. We ARE the pro motion display

1

u/Strong-Ordinary-6967 16d ago

I’ll just keep what I have the mini a17 pro since the the oled will still be probably 60hz so not a drastic change also it’ll be the first year of the new design.

1

u/King_HartOG 15d ago

Fold 7 šŸ‘šŸ»

1

u/Master-Dish8869 15d ago

Oled display, in ipad 60hz works well

1

u/Limit3dSinz 15d ago

If I had to choose it’d be OLED

1

u/ADHDK 15d ago

I would very much appreciate AOD on the mini far more than any other iPad.

Make it a genuinely useful desk device.

1

u/AndryTheBeast 15d ago

I mean, 120hz is a game changer so yeah

1

u/RoboAddy 15d ago

Why would it not be both? OLED has fast response times so high refresh would be a given.

1

u/ze_boingboing 14d ago

OLED IP67

1

u/Clovis_Wu 14d ago

iPhone 13 pro is the world first smartphone with 120hz, however standard version users get the promotion 8 years later.

1

u/CDNSpartan 14d ago

It wasn’t the first smartphone with a 120hz display. Samsung and various other Android phones had 120hz displays before the iPhone 13 Pro came out.

1

u/inoxium_1 14d ago

for a mini you really need both, perfect gaming device right there

1

u/iwanni 13d ago

120hz!!!

1

u/YummyCoochie 13d ago

Would it be tandem oled or just regular oled…. If it’s the latter, 120hz would be the obvious choice.

1

u/UNCfan07 12d ago

This is so apple to make you choose

1

u/MysteriousTy99 12d ago

I want oled. I don’t need promotion to watch YouTube

1

u/QTIIPP 12d ago

OLED. Not even a little close.

Even personal preference aside, just practically trying to quantify impact, OLED effects 100% of usage, whereas 120hz only impacts some uses.

1

u/lucashhugo 11d ago

120hz, oled sucks

1

u/No-Spinach2270 10d ago

Oled 100%. 120hz is nice, but a solid 60hz display is more than fine.

1

u/shrmy 9d ago

If it don't have 120hz.... I'm not getting it.
