Reason is gaming,
I play on ipad pro m5 at home, mini when out bored, or on holidays, and the difference is just annoying!
Iphone 17 pro max is great, but very small for my old ass!

u/Correct_Ad_877 16d ago
Gaming ? Youād have to get 120 fps to make it mean anything gaming wise . PCs at 2k resolution hardly get 120 fps games.
3
u/Floufae 16d ago
Even something as basic as Pokemon go on my iPad mini 7 vs my iPhone Pro is very different. I donāt need the extra frames but it looks so much better when you can turn on high refresh rate
1
u/Ok-Limit-9726 15d ago
Yes when doing curve ball on 2025mini its laggy, low fps compared to iphone air, iphone 17 pro max, feels same as iphone 11
1
u/Ok-Limit-9726 16d ago
Been gaming on ios since 2020, after decades of PC building, i get 120fps in game 28ping
1
u/Correct_Ad_877 16d ago
What games would you even be playing that would need that like action or fps? You canāt necessarily say itās 120 fps unless you are running an fps tester .

Most competitive games run easy at over 120 hz on mid tier graphic cards. But single player games are a different story
1
u/vegcharli 12d ago
On which games? My Windows laptop is pretty garbage compared to a proper computer and it can still run 240 fps on popular games. Indie titles haven't been an issue in forever either. Minecraft, Stardew, Balatro, Hollow Knight, Celeste, STS, Hades, Deltarune, etc will just run on anything.

OLED. Iām never much of a critic, but the color depth and brightness of the screen just leaves a lot to be desired, especially in brighter environments

OLED. This may be controversial but i think OLED would be much better than 120hz. I can't even notice it anyway

u/umdterp732 17d ago
I need a brighter screen for outdoor work so OLED all the way

Iām here for this take. Canāt say I care much for anything above 60hz if itās not for gaming⦠which I can do on anything else. Team OLED.

u/sgtakase 17d ago
OLED over 120 hz any day. Battery gains plus most content is 24, 30, or 60 fps so Pro Motion wouldnāt make too big of a difference for me anyway

oled lol
most of us use it for media. so we arent really watching content in 120hz. every show is locked at 30fps so wether is 30,60 or 120 it doesnt matter
oled overall makes everything more enjoyable
im thinking iphone wise. i would much rather oled and deep blacks than a fast screen lol
we had oled like pannels on iphones before we did 120hz for a reason

u/Example-Difficult 15d ago
oled display by far, in ipad 120 hz refresh rate is not so necessary in my opinion.

Apple is not going to release a 120 Hz promotion display that isnāt OLED.
I realize that they did this for a time on the iPad Pro, it was essentially Mini LED but considering even the base iPhone models now are both OLED and 120 Hz thatās whatās most certainly coming to the iPad mini

u/MsMarji 17d ago
What about VOIP apps?
1
u/Love2Pug 16d ago
What I want is all my existing contacts to be able to call and SMS me at my existing number. Currently this only works if I transfer my current # to a virtual one (aka google voice $$).

u/MsMarji 16d ago edited 16d ago
Iāve had GV since Google bought Grand Central Station & launched GV in 2009, GV is a forwarding service. Itās my public phone number.
Google still offers GV FREE for individuals. You donāt have to use the paid GV Workplace. You have to have a Gmail account.
āGoogle Voice for personal use provides a free, cloud-based phone number that links to your existing mobile or landline. It is perfect for protecting your primary number on dating apps or online marketplaces, and includes free domestic calling, voicemail transcription, and spam blocking.ā

u/Love2Pug 14d ago

I want it to be able to connect via USB-C to a monitor and have Stage Manager capabilities. In other words , give it an M-Series chip
Connect keyboard and mouse, and Iāve got the perfect little computer to travel with
1
u/lotusek_salamek 17d ago
You can totally do that
On iOS 26 it had native stage manager support on external displays and on iOS 18 you can enable it using tools like Nugget or Misaka26

u/Competitive_Funny964 17d ago

Oled is way more important. A close enough second would be miniLED⦠they can gatekeep the refresh rate, I dont care

u/ajpinton 17d ago
Iād have to care enough about either to want them. Also be aware your $500 iPad mini will be $700 with these features.

120hz so I can have a portable drawing tablet. Itās the only thing thatās kept me from buying an iPad mini so far.

What kind of question is this? The new iPad is going to have a 120 hertz screen and it is going to be OLED.

Blue > Red
OLED vs LED is a massive upgrade for a device made up for media consumption. 120hz appreciated but not a deal breaker

1
u/Da_Droid_Mechanic 17d ago
Oled, honestly I donāt need 120hz for what I do on my iPad, all I do is read and watch videos on it. 120hz would be overkill really and oled would we really sweet to look at.

OLED because of reading and watching movies. Itās not even close. Only thing I will miss is 1000 nits.

u/minneverdig 17d ago
Im hoping it gets both normal and wide-angle lenses on the back, so it can take macro photos then I could just stick my iPhone Air in the charger on 80% battery as a iMessage/sms hub, and cary the mini with me daily on a mobile plan (wishful thinking that won't happen, titanium frame and thin as the iPhone Air, and waterproof) Oled over 120hz tho..

I used to be such an apple hater but I got a mini for my last job and its just something I dont need an upgrade. But if I was just given the choice id pick oled. 60 hz on here is so smooth.

promotion. tbh battery gains donāt matter when theyāre punching physics in the face with their charging speeds, and portable chargers are becoming slimmer and thinnerā¦. and inevitable with multiple devices⦠if you own an ipad im looking right at you
< 90 hz is also what genuinely makes me take AVP off during mac virtual display sessions besides other ecosystem incompetence
every time low power mode turns on my phone i canāt stand the screen and end up turning it back off š im biased because i donāt use ipad for gaming or movie watching but appreciate the very rare times i do. theyāre all too small and i see the device more as a canvas and utility pad, and with multi tasking, as a studentā¦.. ESPECIALLY on the ipad, it needs to feel like it can keep up with you and not penalize you for challenging its power.
screen brightness doesnāt need to be aimed at higher numbers when apple is mastering their cooling technology to allow exceedingly visible brightness in sunlight. and with nanotexture? iām sorry, but my take is the most biblically accurate

OLED.
120hz would be nice, but what I need most is a brighter screen with better contrast not a smoother scrolling one.
Reading at extremes (bright sunlight or very dark rooms) are both less than ideal on the iPad mini because of the LCD display and OLED would make this better.
But let's be real. If we don't get OLED we DEFINITELY won't be getting 120hz.
I will be keeping my fingers crossed for both.
1

u/jhfenton 16d ago
OLED. I can barely see the difference with 120 Hz on a small screen.
But it should be both.
1
u/cocomirai 16d ago
People debating STANDARD features that many other brands already offer is wild. Guys, have some respect for you all please. If Apple doesn't not provide both features on the next iPad Mimi I will just simply get a Huawei Mate Pad Mini. 144HZ and OLED already. Like many other. Lol.
1
u/melancholicsoldier 16d ago
People talk about the display being inadequate and absolutely must have oled and hear it anytime the Mini is mentioned. I don't think the display is bad at all. It's the speakers that need upgrading. I could deal with the display staying the way it is if it comes with improvements in other areas particularly the speakers. That being said, oled is going to happen. I don't have any influence over what Apple does lol so don't get too mad at me
