News Decay / Repair Issues

Many folks had asked about problems with base repair, but I wasn't going to comment until I did a little research. I found and fixed several of the key issues with our current repair scheme. The following fixes are in internal testing, and will not be in this week's patch. We will try to get them into a quick zone patch before the November update.

Here's the skinny ....

  • The repair hammer had a bug that surfaced when striking large objects. It was not related to the hit box, but to some of the underlying data. This caused hits that contacted the physics hit box to miss in many orientations / positions, even though they visually "hit".
  • The hammer also was repairing damage based on current hit points, instead of the maximum. This would cause heavily damaged structures to need many more repair hits to fix than they should have.
  • Finally, I changed the hammer to repair all child structures, recursively. This means that hitting a Foundation with the hammer will repair all children attached to the foundation, each swing. This should greatly reduce the number of swings needed to do upkeep on the bases. It's important to note that this will not repair "floating" structures. Those must still be done singly, but the range modification should make that much easier.

We appreciate your feedback! However, we have to make sure that all changes go through all stages of our QA process before they get onto the live servers. We are testing all of the above changes, making sure they don't cause issues elsewhere, and are trying to get them to you as quickly as possible.

You are a fucking genius.

Thank you. d ^ _ ^ b

Will this work with tampers, as well?

In my current tests, hitting the tamper repairs everything on the tamper. If a deck foundation has been placed on top of the tamper, it repairs everything on the deck foundation as well.

this is slightly confusing... have you tested out hitting a deck foundation NOT on top of a ground tamper?

because if separately hitting each foundation repairs the large structures associated with it then awesome!

I didn't describe that well :) Mongo write code!

Hitting either foundation (deck or tamper) will repair everything on it. In addition, if a deck is stacked on a tamper, hitting the tamper will repair everything on the tamper and everything on the deck.

Can't help but wonder how many actually get that reference without google.

This is awesome! No need for the Construction box now!

Construction box could be usefull if you plan on going on a small holiday / (business)-trip without having to worry about decay.
Sure it takes a while before a structure is fully decaid but more decay also results in even faster / easier baseraids.
So a combo of both box & superhammer is much appreciated!

well part of me says yes and part say no. While I know real life is good and we all cant play 24-7 I still feel that nothing should be automated (hence I was never a fan of the construction box, plus how much materials can it store? The box is safe from raiders from what Ive read/understood so that would kill base raiding, ammo logged off with and all materials (wood/metal) safe from raiding, unless someone just pisses you off there is zero point to raiding, which is about the only thing to do once you have played for about 2 weeks into a wipe.

Saving materials like that wouldn't be a problem if there was either a maximum or if you weren't able to take materals back from it.
Eventhough I understand your point, I still stand by mine... we can't all be online as much as others. H1Z1 is only a small part of my life :-) Work & life happens!

I know all about real life , which is why I sit partially on both sides of the fence with the box.
