News Urgent Live Update - 8/14 - 4-5pm - Client Version 0.119.1.58320

EDIT: 5:06pm : This maintenance is now complete

EDIT: 9:34pm : Some people have reported not seeing the update in Steam - I went and forced the update again - make sure to check under your properties and validate the game cache files once today and check that the Steam Content ID (in the Local Files tab) is 734396

BR worlds will lock at 3:30pm pacific time (and stop all new games) and all servers will come down right around 4pm pacific time and be down for up to an hour for an urgent update to address the following issues:

Gameplay:

  • Bullet drop - a change was pushed out an order of magnitude too high, and has been reverted to it's previous values
  • The fade to red screen effect as you get hurt has been adjusted to be more subtle. EDIT: This should also be removed from BR games - please report if this still occurs.

UI:

  • We have added an option to only have system messages in the chat window. You can add the line "HideBannerBroadcasts=1" into the [General] (or top) section of the UserOptions.ini file. Once we add the option to the UI, we will hotfix the client to make it easier.
  • The duplicate system messages should be fixed - please report any specific messages you are still seeing doubled

Art:

  • Crazy arms should be much less crazy - animation was getting out of sync and getting the shoulder twisted, which should be fixed now

Steam Build ID is 734396

EDIT: Added pacific time zone, sorry about that.

Nice, I hope that dev who laughed at us for saying the bullet drop was messed up feels stupid

"that dev" never laughed at anyone, he was musing at the idea that everyone was complaining that the bullets were "raising".

Wouldn't go as far as saying he was laughing at us, but I would say he was a tad "ignorant" in his comment because he did said that bullets do rise in real life...

Not ignorant. Bullets do rise in real life.

The path of a bullet in real life when it leaves the barrel is up. It starts about 1.5 inches (depending on the gun, of course) below the sight-line of the gun. As it travels, it will appear to rise past your aiming point for a time (I believe about 4-5 inches is common), and then fall back down through the sight line at a distance called the Maximum Point Blank Range (sometimes called "battle zero"). This allows you to point the sights at center of mass of the target and be certain of hitting it.

For Rifles I typically see this set to around 2-300 yards and is the point at which "effective range" for a gun is partially determined.

EDIT: added military reference term and center of mass clarity.

Here we go again... The bullet goes up because the barrel is up... As you said, it will APPEAR TO RISE... I have already shown an image about this... The bullet does not rise xD

You were wrong to correct him the first time and you're still wrong. He's talking about the perspective from the line of sight. You're image illustrate that perfectly. The bullet start under the line of sight, then "rise" above it and as gravity continue its pull, the bullet "fall" under it until it hit something or the ground. They don't APPEAR to rise above the line of sight, they fuckin do it !

When the programmer said that bullets rise, this was not what he explained :) Bullets do not rise. They follow the direction of the barrel. He (the programmer) was not talking about line of sight, or sights, etc. Just research bullet rise, and you'll find things like the myth of the rising bullet, among other things, with some in deapth explanations.

Anyway, just glad they fixed it :) But there's a lot work ahead of them from what I've been seeing... Even with the new urgent fixes...
