Question Learning method

Am I learning wrong? I've stumbled across a few posts saying they're learning the chords and scales but I've just been trying to learn how to play songs. Should I stop that and start doing scales and memorising chords/notes?

Songs are a perfectly valid way to learn - I wouldn't stop. The thing I'd add is a tiny bit of naming and isolating after you learn part of a song: write down the chords, spot one scale/shape that explains a riff, then loop the messiest 2 bars slowly until they feel automatic. That way theory becomes labels for music you're already playing, not a separate homework pile.
