My son is 9 and Fire is his favourite gladiator. He started watching it with us this series and out of no where a few weeks a go, he stood up and said "yay, Fire!" And now every week he'll ask when Fire will be out.
I asked what he likes about Fire and he said she has the best name and she's very fast and strong (true!).
We have 30+ years worth of events, Gladiators and arenas from both Gladiators and American Gladiators that you could pull from. This is such a no brainer and would make for a fun party game, especially if you could play as the Gladiators.
Love that it’s a strength yet non-contact (btwn people) event. Having only 1 gladiator instead of 2 compete might not be ideal in terms of bookings, but at least we won’t be getting any ‘rigging’ conspiracies, where one contender faces Giant, and the other, Viper.
Surprised that it passed H&S given that the gladiators tend to run into the structures head first.
A visually spectacular event. I call it the sumo ball + earthquake reimagined. Imo it's good to have a strength event where the contenders have a better chance of winning than they do in Duel.
I will always cheer for whomever is more humble, who feels a lot more genuine, and who shows a more sportsmanship attitude.
But once they say something stupid like, "Yeah, bring 'em all!" When a contender brags or says they are going to take it... I just sit back and will say, I hope they lose...
I don't find it endearing, I find it cockey and just reminds me of people that have always found things a smidge too easy that need a reality check.
Following the recent casting call for new Gladiators, I’ve been thinking about what kind of athletes would most effectively complement the current Gladiator roster.
I think there's a potential to increase the win percentage on the Wall (even if they made the wall more difficult) and find more Gladiators capable of playing the Edge.
The female gladiator profile would be a climber/boulderer or an OCR athlete. Pro boulderers are used to falling from height onto mats, meaning they’d have the psychological edge to play... the edge. As a bonus, they also have elite grip strength, so Hang Tough would be their event too.
The team seems to require the male gladiators to be at least 1.8m and significantly more jacked than the average contender. A pure climber/boulderer might be too lean, but someone like Joe Scandrett, a parkour athlete who also trains in climbing and gymnastics might fit the bill.
Who would you cast if you were on the selection team, and why? Alternatively, what specific athletic disciplines/backgrounds do you think would add the most value to the current roster?
No complicated plot twists, fake social experiments or constant negativity. Just massive athletic people launching contestants into orbit while families watch together shouting at the TV. Feels weirdly refreshing compared to loads of modern entertainment.
My son is officially falling to pieces because there's no Gladiators any more... And I have to say that the repeats are beginning to grate! Lol
Amazon were advertising that the American Gladiators were starting on there this month... It now looks like that's been a dud... Is there anywhere else to see them or does anyone actually know if they're going to be shown in the UK?
Not necessarily the strongest either some of them just have that energy where you know your confidence would disappear the second they started sprinting towards you.
My boyfriend and I were just discussing missing Gladiator, which led us to discuss Giants latest statement and Dynamites enthusiastic attempts to sing.
I have given up searching, it’s not as simple as the good ol’ days with the simple Top 40 UK and I do not trust AI. Her Wikipedia also makes zero reference to her singing.
Does anyone know if she reached the top 40 with any of them, and if so what did she/they peak at?
I would be surprised if this is a yes, as I’ve definitely heard better, but who am I to judge, even my cat leaves the room when I sing!
I've seen many people rightly point out that Athena shouldn't be doing her archery poses, as Artemis and Apollo were the archers and Athena is more commonly depicted with a spear.
The one that bothers me that I haven't seen mentioned is Sabre. Her gimmick is that she is a cat, but a sabre is a sword. I get that they're going for "sabre-tooth tiger" but that would be like having a Gladiator called Hammer and having them act like a shark. It's not like there weren't plenty of other cat names to pick from!
Any others you think the name doesn't fit their gimmick or their personality? Can be from any previous iteration of the show.
Just wondering, as the gladiator selection is apparently "random" for Everest, shouldn't it then be completely random or like more mystical for the rest of the solo events as well, like what they do with Unleash.... for equality?
For example, could the presenters not announce the gladiator outloud shouting "BIONICC" or perhaps "StEeLlL", and upon their entrances even the ppl at homes could guess the opponent for the very last moments?
OR, perhaps could it be the other, more traditional, way round that before Unleash or even Everest the contenders KNOW their opposing Gladiators before their entry? (Flip a coin kinda feature?)
