Looking for fishing knowledge as a guy from Nebraska here on vacation
Hey guys,
I am here from Nebraska on a vacation and am renting a boat tomorrow that will come with fishing rods. I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable when it comes to fishing but no connoisseur by any means. I am not sure how to fish the river or shallow parts of the ocean. Guy renting us the boat said a bubbler box to keep some bait alive and toss it out. Not much detail. Think the boat is just a tritoon or something so nothing crazy. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
UPDATE: Will be putting boat in at Cooley’s landing and cruising the river up towards Bahia Mar or we can go a different route towards Port Everglade

Go big red! Head out to the sargasso mats and toss in anything and the mahi will show up.

You a Husker fan yourself? Love to see that. Appreciate the advice man, hope the rods have decent enough tackle and line

So id probably go out the port of Everglades and head south. There are mooring buoies on the reef. You can find a map of the location of them you can print out or use your phone for GPS. Chum the waters and use live, or frozen bait. Without a depth finder you are at a disadvantage. You can also go to the water color change and drift live bait.

Today and tomorrow are NOT the days to head out into the ocean, 5-10 ft waves today and 5-9 tomorrow will swamp an inexperienced boater in a small rental boat.

Find the reef around 100 ft deep. Fish live bait and dead bait in the area of the reef that’s a basic that you can always do.

Try to download any type of fishing map on your phone. Should be easy to find the reef. If you’re at 90-100 ft depth of water then you’re in the reef area. Any downloaded fishing or navigation map should show you where the reef is. Live bait works well on top and bottom. dead bait mostly works for me at the bottom.
