Question What is the best fast food fries in your opinion?

Had these for the first time 2 nights ago. I enjoyed them but they were severely undercooked so I can't rate them fairly. I'm imagining ordered extra crispy they would be extremely good. I don't like steak fries and these are thick like them but they're also crinkle which I love.
Need to go back and get them cooked more real soon

McDonald's, but only if you eat them right away.

u/Upstairs-Radish1816 6h ago
If they’re not hot enough to burn your mouth, then they’re not worth eating.

You mean in the car on the way home?
2
u/Numerous_Smile_9082 1h ago
I put the heat on passenger on 'floor' setting to high- it
It seems to prolong them a little bit3
u/PolarizingKabal 3h ago
Cold fries suck. No matter where you get them from. Not even worth saving as a leftover. Just toss them.
1
u/No_Ambassador6102 1h ago
Some are salvageable in an air fryer. McDonald isn’t one of them. But for thicker fries like zaxbys or chicfila waffle fries, it can be somewhat decent reheated after it’s sat for a bit. Overnight or outta the fridge? No way just toss that shit.

McDonald’s fries are the world’s best selling fast food french fries. The clown doesn’t mess around with fries.

arby’s curly fries
6
u/red_deadRT509 6h ago
Their crinkle fries are pretty good to. But the curly takes the top spot when they are fresh out the fryer
3
u/United_States_Eagle 5h ago
There’s no better feeling than slowly, perfectly extracting the longest curly fry from its container. I don’t even like their fries, but that experience makes it worth it.
Finding an onion ring in your BK fries isn’t even close to that. BK fries aren’t even edible, but the hunt for the ring or the curliest of curly fries keeps me going on.

People always look at me funny when I say this - but Del Taco Fries are supreme. Crinkle Cut and always the perfect consistency across numerous locations and states

Hard disagree, I genuinely prefer every other company's fries over McD's right now. They just taste like chemicals to me :/
3
u/discordianofslack 5h ago
I agree with you. Haven’t had a good fry at McDonalds in over a decade. They taste nothing like potatoes

u/Known-Dependent-5471 6h ago
Rallys is another level. Don't get me wrong when Mc is in that window of freshness it's something else, but I wouldn't go there just for fries. Rallys I do.

Waffle fries chick fil a
2
u/kursa_sucks 4h ago
They changed the ingredients on them like a year or 2 ago and they taste like shit
3
u/Snts6678 4h ago
Changed the “ingredients”? What? Are they no longer using potatoes?
4
u/Southern_Struggle 4h ago
For a little bit they added pea starch to make them crispier, people complained about it and they went back.
3
u/youngliam 6h ago
For regular style, McDonalds.
For battered, Popeyes.
I also love any curly fries.

Freddys are the best hands down. It’s almost impossible to get a bad fry and the seasoning + fry sauce are fantastic.

I’ll never understand the crinkle cut hate.
Eating Shake Shack, or Dave’s, or White Castle, I can’t see how McDonald’s, considered the gold standard by many, is anywhere close to this. Preference is one thing, but people talk like the style itself is dog shit by default.
Dave’s cheese fries would be my answer.

Shake shack.

u/Kellzy1212 5h ago
Their cheese sauce is by far the best. I always get it on the side though, so they don’t get mushy.

Wendys
3
u/Principletrade 6h ago
They are usually good, and unlike McDonald's, they are at-least edible if they get cold.
*If you show up at midnight, the fries at Wendy's are probably going to be cold and they will suck.

Is lazy dog considered fast food? Or just fast food style at a sit down?
think theirs beats Popeyes hands down. Im not sure if they double fry them or what, but they are addicting as heck
3
u/Bigheaded_1 4h ago
Lazy dog the brewery?? That's a full blown restaurant there's nothing fast food about that place
1
u/CompleteSavings6307 4h ago
I don't think its a brewery (lazy dog beer is made by Melvin brewing co)
but I get your point. Still love them! KFC fries would be a close 2nd but only when properly cooked by competent workers who don't let the oil get too cold
2
u/Bigheaded_1 4h ago
This threads about fast food fires tho. Lazy dog is a somewhat upscale sit-down spot and unfair in this discussion. Their fries are delicious for sure

Sonic Groovy fries- Idk why they get so much hate. So good, so crispy on the outside

Arby’s easily… but for a non cheat code like them… hmm probably fresh McDonald’s fries? I mean all the chains have the same issue, if they Arnt fresh they’re terrible lol
1
u/ZillieIsCold 6h ago
Honestly for me it'd have to be Culver's crinkle cut fries because they are amazing and then Arby's curly fries for the same reason.

Mcdonalds is trash. Its devent if you get it fresh out the fryer, but after a few minutes they taste like soap.
Bojangles are fantastic though
1
u/United_States_Eagle 5h ago
The real question is who’s got the saltiest? My doctor told me I gotta cut sodium, so dumping salt into my ketchup or fry sauce might be killing me.

(1) checkers/rallys (2) Popeyes (3) Wing stop (4) Cajun fries with blackened ranch at my favorite local spot.

I think the different styles of fries are kinda like comparing pizza or BBQ styles. Sometimes I want NY style. Sometimes I want Chicago style or Detroit style. To me it’s not like I dislike any of the styles, but I have preferences.
Arby’s for seasoned Curly Fries. I would include Five Guys but their prices make it not worth going. Plus they’re more fast casual anyway.
Del Taco for crinkle cut fries. Arby’s are ok but I don’t go to Arby’s for crinkle cuts when the curly fries are there.
Carl’s Jr/ Hardee’s for waffle fries. Chick Fil A is a distant second as they’re just salted and practically unseasoned.
Ralky’s/ Checkers for seasoned shoestring fries. I think they still use lard so just like beef tallow, it’s not healthier but they taste great.
McDonald’s for regular shoestring fries but only for 10-15 mins. After that they’re just trash.

Of all the fries I’ve had fresh, Dairy Queen was the perfect fry. So crispy, super fluffy and potato y on the inside with the perfect amount of salt

u/thefixxxer9211 4h ago
Five Guys, McDonald's
Before they switched to those horrid waffle fries I loved Long John Silver's fries
Krystal had good fries but they also switched to some crap
Crinkle fries are for children

I gotta go with Arby’s as far as the big chains go. Hat Creek is probably my favorite but I don’t know how wide spread they are.

u/LAROACHA_420 3h ago
Man last time I ordered mcdonalds on Uber eats they forgot my fries! Im still salty about it! I know this answers nothing, but I needed to get that out there!
1
u/TehPaintbrushJester 3h ago
Not McDs. They suck and have sucked since they stopped frying in beef tallow.
Freddy's Smashburger's fries are crispy and delish. Seconded by a good crinkle-cut fry well salted.
1
u/UnsafeAtEverySpeed 3h ago
Any fast food joint that will cook them fresh and give them to you straight out of the oil! I like the first few of ‘em to burn my tongue!
1
u/Queasy_Dingo_8262 3h ago
Chickfila waffle, McDonald’s but they’re very inconsistent
But I love Burger King onion rings and the habit grill tempura beans
1
u/PolarizingKabal 3h ago edited 3h ago
Burger kings.
I know majority of people have a bad experience with them, maybe my local shop is an except. But they are always crunchy and always consistent for me. I hate soggy limp shoestring fry like McDonald's. I'll only eat McDonald's because I have a salt addiction.
Nothing beats a good steak fry though.

I hate to say it but right now my favorite fries are taco bells nacho fries.
Mcdonalds near me at every location i try the fries are trash its been like 15-20 attempts in a row of terrible fries. I get them often because they always have a deal for free fries with softdrink purchase in the app and mcdonalds coke and sprite are the best.
Also like chick fil a waffle fries they just never seem to have an old oil taste and the salt is usually just right.
Also not sure if how many have tried them but pizza hut Cajun fries and lemon pepper fries are great.

u/ericduhs 2h ago
Obviously those are AI fries because who has ever seen fries this orderly. It’s like they were whipped into submission.

u/ThisIsMyRedditAcct20 2h ago
Fresh: McDonald’s. Whataburger is much the same for fries.
Sad news is most of them aren’t nice these days. And for people saying pepper makes the difference: you do know you can grab a pepper anywhere.
Burger King travels the best for delivery IMHO
1
u/Gatodeluna 2h ago
For me, McD’s. But the KFC lightly battered or double-fried or whatever they do is very good too. It’s the chicken that’s crap🤣.
1
u/Buchholtz 2h ago
Any fries that are seasoned with more than just salt. Even simply adding pepper the way Freddie’s does makes a big difference.

Jack in the box fries are pretty fire especially the curly ones but will admit they are greasier than other fries mentioned.

It use to be Carl’s Jr pressed fries now it’s McDonalds only when the have fresh oil in fryer

Not sure this counts, but if you have a Brazilian lunch joint in your town, the best fries will probably be there.
I don't know how they do it but Brazilian french fries are absolutely the bomb. They're kinda like McDonald's... but better.
