For the win, Popeyes #2

2

u/kursa_sucks 4h ago

Popeyes are one of the only fries a crave, if only they weren’t so dumby expensive when they aren’t offering their 2 for 5 sides

1

u/Green-Feature3810 3h ago

They’re mad expensive

Checkers in my area and there's no contest, I love the bit of black pepper!

They’re a love it or hate it affair. Personally, I don’t like the spice mix so I’m in the hate it camp

1

u/HighlightFun8419 1h ago

Absolutely take my upvote.

Nathan’s

It’s not for everyone but man they hit

2

u/Bigheaded_1 4h ago

Had these for the first time 2 nights ago. I enjoyed them but they were severely undercooked so I can't rate them fairly. I'm imagining ordered extra crispy they would be extremely good. I don't like steak fries and these are thick like them but they're also crinkle which I love.

Need to go back and get them cooked more real soon

78

u/Seran-Ast 6h ago

McDonald's, but only if you eat them right away.

30

u/Upstairs-Radish1816 6h ago

If they’re not hot enough to burn your mouth, then they’re not worth eating.

8

u/elquirk 4h ago

And slightly overdone. If they white, they ain’t right.

2

u/mAckAdAms4k 4h ago

Yea but then you risk over cooked hard fries that don't taste fresh.

McDonald’s with the shaker ramen flavor

3

u/No_Ambassador6102 3h ago

You mean in the car on the way home?

2

u/Numerous_Smile_9082 1h ago

I put the heat on passenger on 'floor' setting to high- it
It seems to prolong them a little bit

3

u/PolarizingKabal 3h ago

Cold fries suck. No matter where you get them from. Not even worth saving as a leftover. Just toss them.

1

u/No_Ambassador6102 1h ago

Some are salvageable in an air fryer. McDonald isn’t one of them. But for thicker fries like zaxbys or chicfila waffle fries, it can be somewhat decent reheated after it’s sat for a bit. Overnight or outta the fridge? No way just toss that shit.

1

u/petie1223 4h ago

Should try Wataburger. Nearly identical recipe and a lot less oily.

1

u/JurisUrsus 3h ago

Had some yesterday. They were delicious.

1

u/Cogitating_Polybus 54m ago

McDonald’s fries are the world’s best selling fast food french fries. The clown doesn’t mess around with fries.

arby’s curly fries

6

u/red_deadRT509 6h ago

Their crinkle fries are pretty good to. But the curly takes the top spot when they are fresh out the fryer

3

u/United_States_Eagle 5h ago

There’s no better feeling than slowly, perfectly extracting the longest curly fry from its container. I don’t even like their fries, but that experience makes it worth it.

Finding an onion ring in your BK fries isn’t even close to that. BK fries aren’t even edible, but the hunt for the ring or the curliest of curly fries keeps me going on.

7

u/NichtFBI 6h ago

Hardee's Curly Fries.

Brought to you by Carl's Jr.

6

u/highlife562 6h ago

Why do you keep saying that?

5

u/thebigpink 5h ago

He’s been brought to you by Carl’s Jr

1

u/fluffyegg 1h ago

The last time I had these they smelled like Chinese take out

1

1

u/Mainiga 44m ago

Bojangles's is up there. Getting a fresh set of fries along with a fresh Chicken Biscuit for breakfast was one of the few pleasant experiences when I lived down south for a few years.

Del taco

6

People always look at me funny when I say this - but Del Taco Fries are supreme. Crinkle Cut and always the perfect consistency across numerous locations and states

2

u/kk1620 4h ago

They also have the best strawberry shake

1

u/monty624 13m ago

Yes! I miss when they had the $1 mini shakes. What a time to be alive.

Only if fresh. And only in the first 5 to 10 minutes

Hard disagree, I genuinely prefer every other company's fries over McD's right now. They just taste like chemicals to me :/

3

u/discordianofslack 5h ago

I agree with you. Haven’t had a good fry at McDonalds in over a decade. They taste nothing like potatoes

Five guys Cajun fries for sure then Arby's curly fries right after that

Rallys is another level. Don't get me wrong when Mc is in that window of freshness it's something else, but I wouldn't go there just for fries. Rallys I do.

15

u/atxjeremy80 6h ago

Waffle fries chick fil a

2

u/kursa_sucks 4h ago

They changed the ingredients on them like a year or 2 ago and they taste like shit

3

u/Snts6678 4h ago

Changed the “ingredients”? What? Are they no longer using potatoes?

4

u/Southern_Struggle 4h ago

For a little bit they added pea starch to make them crispier, people complained about it and they went back.

3

u/youngliam 6h ago

For regular style, McDonalds.

For battered, Popeyes.

I also love any curly fries.

3

u/angrybox1842 5h ago

As long as you eat em hot and fresh McDonald's fries can't be beat.

5

u/internetbooker134 6h ago

Might not be the best but I like the Taco Bell nacho fries

4

u/Fangsong_37 6h ago

Rally’s seasoned fries.

5

u/Kellzy1212 5h ago

Shake shack with cheese sauce on the side.

McDonald's if they are super salted, right out the fryer and aren't overly cooked!......If not Potato Ole's at Taco Johns

In-N-Out. Raw potato to fryer in less than 5 minutes then double fried crispy

2

u/G-Style666 3h ago

This is yet another repost.

But 5 Guys has the best fries IMO.

2

u/Staggy__ 3h ago

5 Guys Cajun Fries

4

u/Stacked69 6h ago

Freddy's

3

u/trulyniceguy 6h ago

Freddys are the best hands down. It’s almost impossible to get a bad fry and the seasoning + fry sauce are fantastic.

2

u/somecow 1h ago

Smaller shoestrings on purpose, they cook faster. But the seasoning is goooooooood. Working there sucks, but damn right I’m sneaking a fry every time I walk past.

6

u/GW_Jefferson 6h ago

New Burger King fries or Nathan's fries

2

u/Pingadecaballo_ 3h ago

i put the fries in the original chicken sandwich. it’s amazing

1

u/Specialist-Wind7231 31m ago

There are new bk fries??

1

u/GW_Jefferson 23m ago

Yes .And they are, to me, so much better and tastier

3

u/OkRickySpinach 6h ago

I like the crinkle fry so I'll say Dave's hot just for the fries

3

u/Fabray13 6h ago

I’ll never understand the crinkle cut hate.

Eating Shake Shack, or Dave’s, or White Castle, I can’t see how McDonald’s, considered the gold standard by many, is anywhere close to this. Preference is one thing, but people talk like the style itself is dog shit by default.

Dave’s cheese fries would be my answer.

3

u/Away_Bit_3382 4h ago

Long live the crinkle cut!

→ More replies (2)

3

u/YourWeekendDad 6h ago

Shake shack.

2

u/Kellzy1212 5h ago

Their cheese sauce is by far the best. I always get it on the side though, so they don’t get mushy.

4

u/jjjjjjdddddpppppaaaa 5h ago

Taco Bell, Arby’s, or wingstop, I just like seasoned fries

2

u/elbows2nose 4h ago

Wingstop 🙌

Animal style, light-well

u/njsfynest 5h ago

McDonald’s and it’s not even close

1

u/Plus-Light6832 6h ago

Wendys

3

u/Principletrade 6h ago

They are usually good, and unlike McDonald's, they are at-least edible if they get cold.

*If you show up at midnight, the fries at Wendy's are probably going to be cold and they will suck.

1

u/CompleteSavings6307 6h ago

Is lazy dog considered fast food? Or just fast food style at a sit down?

think theirs beats Popeyes hands down. Im not sure if they double fry them or what, but they are addicting as heck

3

u/Bigheaded_1 4h ago

Lazy dog the brewery?? That's a full blown restaurant there's nothing fast food about that place

1

u/CompleteSavings6307 4h ago

I don't think its a brewery (lazy dog beer is made by Melvin brewing co)

but I get your point. Still love them! KFC fries would be a close 2nd but only when properly cooked by competent workers who don't let the oil get too cold

2

u/Bigheaded_1 4h ago

This threads about fast food fires tho. Lazy dog is a somewhat upscale sit-down spot and unfair in this discussion. Their fries are delicious for sure

1

u/CompleteSavings6307 4h ago

Yup. So i vote KFC in leu of my invalid original commment, lol.

1

u/Throwaway_2474128_1 6h ago

i don't even like popeyes fries, or anything that has thatartificial frozen fry taste

1

u/CommanderShepard_N-7 6h ago

Has always been Hardee’s imo

1

u/Choppstickk 6h ago

Fast Eddie's pickle fries

1

u/ab216 6h ago

They fulfill different needs but McDonalds, Popeyes, Five Guys

Not a fan of crinkle cut

1

u/Rare-Poet-4747 6h ago

Sonic Groovy fries- Idk why they get so much hate. So good, so crispy on the outside

1

u/Lonesome_Soul68 6h ago

McDonalds but only if they are fresh

1

u/flisske 6h ago

There is not a single fast food chain that serves real, original fries.

1

u/DougDimmaGlow 6h ago

Arby’s easily… but for a non cheat code like them… hmm probably fresh McDonald’s fries? I mean all the chains have the same issue, if they Arnt fresh they’re terrible lol

1

u/ZillieIsCold 6h ago

Honestly for me it'd have to be Culver's crinkle cut fries because they are amazing and then Arby's curly fries for the same reason.

1

u/Jobrated 6h ago

Rally’s

1

u/RUBYSOHO4 6h ago

Chick-fil-A

1

u/DevilsPajamas 5h ago

Mcdonalds is trash. Its devent if you get it fresh out the fryer, but after a few minutes they taste like soap.

Bojangles are fantastic though

1

u/United_States_Eagle 5h ago

The real question is who’s got the saltiest? My doctor told me I gotta cut sodium, so dumping salt into my ketchup or fry sauce might be killing me.

1

u/Yaughl 5h ago

Swiss Chalet

1

u/Bookworm10-42 5h ago

DQ crinkle cut, dipped in the country gravy.

1

u/zemelb 5h ago

Assuming they're fresh:

1) Mcdonalds

2) Sonic

3) Checkers

4) Arby's / Jack In The Box curly fries (tied)

1

u/mjensman 5h ago

Not the best, but KFC fries deserve a mention

1

u/bn25168 5h ago

Culver's. Perfect crinkle cut

1

u/wawaweewahwe 5h ago

(1) checkers/rallys (2) Popeyes (3) Wing stop (4) Cajun fries with blackened ranch at my favorite local spot.

1

u/Brando43770 5h ago

I think the different styles of fries are kinda like comparing pizza or BBQ styles. Sometimes I want NY style. Sometimes I want Chicago style or Detroit style. To me it’s not like I dislike any of the styles, but I have preferences.

Arby’s for seasoned Curly Fries. I would include Five Guys but their prices make it not worth going. Plus they’re more fast casual anyway.

Del Taco for crinkle cut fries. Arby’s are ok but I don’t go to Arby’s for crinkle cuts when the curly fries are there.

Carl’s Jr/ Hardee’s for waffle fries. Chick Fil A is a distant second as they’re just salted and practically unseasoned.

Ralky’s/ Checkers for seasoned shoestring fries. I think they still use lard so just like beef tallow, it’s not healthier but they taste great.

McDonald’s for regular shoestring fries but only for 10-15 mins. After that they’re just trash.

1

u/crappycandle777 4h ago

Rally's/Checkers are the best.

1

u/ImportantCandidate12 4h ago

Checkers was the first to come to mind.

1

u/Jealous_Club_298 4h ago

Burger King

Dairy Queen

McDonald's

1

u/hou_tree 4h ago

Of all the fries I’ve had fresh, Dairy Queen was the perfect fry. So crispy, super fluffy and potato y on the inside with the perfect amount of salt

1

u/thefixxxer9211 4h ago

Five Guys, McDonald's

Before they switched to those horrid waffle fries I loved Long John Silver's fries

Krystal had good fries but they also switched to some crap

Crinkle fries are for children

1

u/CapTroller 4h ago

Checkers/rallys

1

u/Emcee_nobody 4h ago

Arctic Circle, hands down.

1

u/drewshulman22 4h ago

A&W fries are my favorite

1

u/R0botDreamz 4h ago

Sleeper pick: tb nacho fries

1

u/Maldadd 4h ago

Most of them if hot and fresh. Expect for in n out

1

u/Music1990s 3h ago

Bojangles fries are actually really good. Their chicken is terrible and I’ve no idea how they’re in business. Burger King is great too

1

u/Late_Test_7431 3h ago

Culver's are consistently excellent.

1

u/Impressive-Party-411 3h ago

All things equally done perfectly it’s McDonald’s…

1

u/thewittman 3h ago

That's not mcd, they dont fill em that high.

1

u/Salsero_Coreano 3h ago

Checkers. no brainer.

1

u/Extreme_Ad4425 3h ago

Wendy’s, when made right. McDonald’s or Carl’s Jr for anytime

1

u/Crikepire 3h ago

That's a nice optomized picture of if McDonald's fries were consistently good.

1

u/likemhuge 3h ago

Five guys (if you consider them fast food)

1

u/BannedByFascistss 3h ago

I gotta go with Arby’s as far as the big chains go. Hat Creek is probably my favorite but I don’t know how wide spread they are.

1

u/LAROACHA_420 3h ago

Man last time I ordered mcdonalds on Uber eats they forgot my fries! Im still salty about it! I know this answers nothing, but I needed to get that out there!

1

u/TehPaintbrushJester 3h ago

Not McDs. They suck and have sucked since they stopped frying in beef tallow.

Freddy's Smashburger's fries are crispy and delish. Seconded by a good crinkle-cut fry well salted.

1

u/UnsafeAtEverySpeed 3h ago

Any fast food joint that will cook them fresh and give them to you straight out of the oil! I like the first few of ‘em to burn my tongue!

1

u/Queasy_Dingo_8262 3h ago

Chickfila waffle, McDonald’s but they’re very inconsistent

But I love Burger King onion rings and the habit grill tempura beans

1

u/PolarizingKabal 3h ago edited 3h ago

Burger kings.

I know majority of people have a bad experience with them, maybe my local shop is an except. But they are always crunchy and always consistent for me. I hate soggy limp shoestring fry like McDonald's. I'll only eat McDonald's because I have a salt addiction.

Nothing beats a good steak fry though.

The best fries that I have found are either Five Guys or Dave’s Hot Chicken

1

u/clutchcitycarlos88 2h ago

McDonald’s, Whataburger, Freddy’s

1

u/Quick1711 2h ago

Dave’s Hot Chicken

1

u/17Kallenie17 2h ago

MY fries 🥹✌️

1

u/HiddenOneJ 2h ago

I hate to say it but right now my favorite fries are taco bells nacho fries.

Mcdonalds near me at every location i try the fries are trash its been like 15-20 attempts in a row of terrible fries. I get them often because they always have a deal for free fries with softdrink purchase in the app and mcdonalds coke and sprite are the best.

Also like chick fil a waffle fries they just never seem to have an old oil taste and the salt is usually just right.

Also not sure if how many have tried them but pizza hut Cajun fries and lemon pepper fries are great.

1

u/NaNsoul 2h ago

Five guys Cajun

1

u/ericduhs 2h ago

Obviously those are AI fries because who has ever seen fries this orderly. It’s like they were whipped into submission.

1

u/Winter_Cut9767 2h ago

McDonald’s:)

1

u/YK8099 2h ago

Fresh made salted mcdonalds one

1

u/ThisIsMyRedditAcct20 2h ago

Fresh: McDonald’s. Whataburger is much the same for fries.

Sad news is most of them aren’t nice these days. And for people saying pepper makes the difference: you do know you can grab a pepper anywhere.

Burger King travels the best for delivery IMHO

1

u/Gatodeluna 2h ago

For me, McD’s. But the KFC lightly battered or double-fried or whatever they do is very good too. It’s the chicken that’s crap🤣.

1

u/Buchholtz 2h ago

Any fries that are seasoned with more than just salt. Even simply adding pepper the way Freddie’s does makes a big difference.

1

u/Ill-Imagination6696 2h ago

Checkers and Popeyes

1

u/photoman1216 2h ago

Wendy's because the fries still have potato skin on them

1

u/Daomsoul 2h ago

It varies. Whoever have well seasoned crunchy soft fries that month or so

1

u/Sea_Excitement554 2h ago

Jack in the box fries are pretty fire especially the curly ones but will admit they are greasier than other fries mentioned.

1

u/Ok-Influence-1424 1h ago

I like Taco Bell fries they good fresh.

1

u/bigstinky 1h ago

White Castle.

1

u/BoS_Vlad 1h ago

1

Believe it or not: WIngstop

1

u/Numerous_Smile_9082 1h ago

I like McDonald's, but only like once a month- anything more than that and I'll get nauseous

1

u/Responsible_Job4417 1h ago

Five Guys…final answer.

1

u/LoneBong 1h ago

Spangles. Only in Kansas from my understanding.

1

u/KWash0222 1h ago

Used to be Wingstop. But they weak sauced their fries

1

u/WInativemm 1h ago

Arby's curly fries.

1

u/Sad-Researcher8685 1h ago

Fucking dairy queen always perfect crunch and not too much salt plus dip em in a frosty and it's GAS

1

u/bigT2964 46m ago

It use to be Carl’s Jr pressed fries now it’s McDonalds only when the have fresh oil in fryer

1

u/Engelgrafik 39m ago

Not sure this counts, but if you have a Brazilian lunch joint in your town, the best fries will probably be there.

I don't know how they do it but Brazilian french fries are absolutely the bomb. They're kinda like McDonald's... but better.

1

u/Simple_Visit4051 35m ago

top 5

1) Arby's curly fries
2) Checkers / Rallys seasoned fries
3) Popeyes cajun fries
4) Jack in the Box curly fries
5) 5 Guys cajun fries
